Biography

    • Daniella DeVinter is an Anglo-Danish writer, academic, and filmmaker. Born in Whitechapel, East London, she was the first in her family to attend university, studying German literature at Oxford before writing her PhD at Cambridge: an unconventional biography of Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

An award-winning writer and director, Daniella is best known for Unwell Woman (2024), a gothic horror exploring the haunted history of hysteria, and for her one-woman-show shorts: Perfectly Undone (2021) and Writer's Block (2022). She also directs music videos for the alt-pop act Now Ex (including 'Bad Actors' and 'Ode to Apocalypse') and has made documentaries on women's sexual health in partnership with Headspace.

In television, Daniella writes crime dramas for major broadcasters. Her credits include Before We Die (2023, Channel 4/PBS) and Patience (2025, Channel 4/PBS), starring Ella Maisy Purvis as an autistic archivist who helps solve a series of murders. Patience has been praised for its authentic and groundbreaking representation, with all neurodivergent roles played by neurodivergent actors.

Daniella is neurodivergent herself, and uses her work to explore alternative ways of seeing and inhabiting the world.

She speaks six languages (three fluently, three... not so fluently) and tells stories in all of them.
