The cast of Chicago Med is getting a new shakeup. After serving as a series regular for five seasons, Dominic Rains is leaving the show.

Per Deadline, Rains is exiting Chicago Med following the Season 9 finale. While it's possible he could appear in a guest role in Season 10, possibly to give the character a send-off, it's not yet clear if the actor will return in any way. Rains has been playing the role of Dr. Crockett Marcel since Season 5 of the NBC medical drama series.

‘Embodiment Of A Sunbeam’: Canadian Actor, Musician Samantha Weinstein Dies At 28
Image
A Canadian actor and musician who won accolades from an early age is being remembered as an inspiring artist who lived “the best life” and continued to work even in her final days.

Samantha Weinstein, 28, died on May 14 at Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer 2 1/2 years ago.

Weinstein had been acting since the age of six, with multiple credits to her name, including for voicing various characters in animated television series.

“Sam was actually a living embodiment of a sunbeam,” said her father, David Weinstein.

“She was so full of positive energy, anyone who ever met her would say that she just lit up every room she walked into.”

Weinstein played high school student Heather in the 2013 remake of “Carrie,” starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, and was cast as Audrey in the 2011 comedy “Jesus Henry Christ,” starring Toni Collette.

8-Year-Old Raises More Than $1 Million to Help Cure His Friend's Rare Disease
Some best friends will do anything for each other - even if it means raising more than $1 million. In 2012, when Dylan Siegel, then 6, found out his best pal, Jonah Pournazarian, had a rare liver disorder called glycogen storage disease type 1B, he decided to write a book to help raise money for a cure. Dylan describes his friendship with Jonah as "awesome as a chocolate bar," so he called the book Chocolate Bar and started selling copies for $20 each, according to ABC. To date, nearly 25,000 copies have been sold in all 50 states and more than 60 countries worldwide. Jonah, now 9, is...

Impressive Proof of Concept Sci-Fi Action Short - Envoy
You've got to check out this incredible sci-fi short film called "Envoy." This thing not only looks awesome, but it seems like it has a compelling story. The short is being used as a proof of concept for full-length feature film. It was directed by David Weinstein, who says that it's a "love-letter to many of the classic action-adventure and science fiction films of the ’80s & ’90s."

The story has an Iron Giant kind of feel to it, as the story centers on a young boy who comes across a giant robot. The two share a little moment together before the military comes in to take out the robot. The design of the robot is really cool, and I'd love to see this get picked up by a studio because it's pretty damn impressive.

Nascar Driver Tony Stewart Will Not Face Charges in Deadly Crash
Three-time Nascar champion Tony Stewart will not be charged with the death of a fellow driver at a sprint car race in upstate New York, prosecutors said Wednesday, disclosing for the first time that the victim had enough marijuana in his system the night he died to impair his judgment. Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo said a grand jury decided against charging Stewart with either second-degree manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide in the Aug. 9 death of Kevin Ward Jr., who was struck and killed as he walked down the track in an apparent attempt to confront the Nascar veteran...

Watch: David Weinstein's Incredible Sci-Fi Robot Short Film 'Envoy'
"You don't even know what it's capable of! Or what it's doing." Wow - this is one of the best shorts I've seen in a while - David Weinstein's Envoy, uploaded to his Vimeo recently. Stellar VFX combined with an emotional, compelling story - a kid and his robot, think Transformers with a little The Iron Giant. And I love that it goes all out, never shying away from showing the robot and some awesome action scenes, and it follows through until the very end. Envoy is under 10 minutes and is worth a quick watch, it's refreshing to see something so good for a short film like this. Someone let this guy make a movie, I don't want this to end. "Details" on the short from Vimeo: "Science fiction, action adventure, short film to be used as a proof of concept for a larger full-length feature film story. A...

Zero Point: Creator of Azureus Rising Is Trying to Kickstart New Sci-Fi Film
Last year, we brought you a very cool CG Animated proof-of-concept short film for a Sci-Fi action-adventure feature film trilogy directed by David Weinstein from Black Sun Entertainment, entitled Azureus Rising. The film went on to earn Weinstein the #4 spot on the end of year industry polls for aspiring filmmakers.

Azureus Rising

Click here to view the embedded video.

Over the past year David noticed a flood of overly polished and cheesy costumed superhero movies. This raised the question, “Why isn’t anyone doing more serious, grounded and dramatic toned superhero genre films? Movies like Unbreakable and Batman Begins did well at the box office and audiences and fans loved them”. This inspired David to contact friend and writer Shintaro Shimosawa about a new film concept.

Weinstein said,

“I told Shin about a unique superhuman power concept that I had been playing with visually in my mind. I wanted to...

Viewfinder: The Black List for Aspiring Filmmakers
Though it started as a very insider thing, The Black List has recently become more popular and mainstream. For those who may not know, it's an annual list of the year's best unproduced screenplays as voted on by about 300 Hollywood development executives and high-level assistants. We recently posted the 2010 list [1] and looking back at some previous years (2007 [2], 2008 [3], 2009 [4]), films such as Recount, The Beaver and The Social Network all sat near the top of the list. Skim over any of them and you'll see names of films that are out, are coming out and more. It's a big deal. This year, a new Black List of sorts has come out. Dubbed Viewfinder, it's supposed to do for directors what The Black List did for screenwriters. Viewfinder is a compilation of "the top commercials, shorts and/or music videos of 2010." Several of the directors on the list already have deals or are in production on films.

Writer Harris Goldberg Sets TV/Film Projects
Writer Harris Goldberg (Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo) has sold a comedy to ABC in addition to several feature projects he has in the works. The ABC half-hour, titled A 100% Chance of Rayne, is executive produced by Goldberg and former NBC marketing topper-turned-producer Vince Manze. It was originally set up at NBC where Manze had a producing deal. Based on Goldberg's real-life experiences, Rayne centers on a perpetually single guy whose younger sister's ugly duckling childhood girlfriend shows up on his door step 10 years later, now blossomed into a gorgeous, yet flawed 21 year old. Goldberg is writing the project whose deal was brokered by Apa and manager David Greenblatt. Also in TV, Harris recently wrote To Be Continued, a project at HBO about generational love, which he is executive producing with Gary Randall. He is also writing/producing Just the Facts, an hourlong drama for Canada's CBC, which Canadian-based Prodigy Pictures is deficit financing.

IRS files claim against David Bergstein
David Bergstein's legal battles have heated up in separate court actions on two continents.

The newest creditor joining the fray in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles is the Internal Revenue Service, which has filed a claim for $432,724.30 in unpaid business taxes against Capco, one of the five Bergstein companies that creditors are trying to force into bankruptcy.

Court-appointed interim trustee Ronald Durkin has said in previous court-mandated reports that Bergstein has not paid all payroll or other business taxes on his companies for the past couple of years -- or personal income taxes for three years.

The IRS claim is likely to take precedence over unpaid debts held by more than 30 other creditors.

Eight of those creditors this week filed a motion for a summary judgment in the ThinkFilm case, which would mean immediately forcing that entity into bankruptcy. In that filing, the creditors say it is...
