Strong, determined, driven, independent, and high-spirited are only a few of the traits that describe SUNY Brockport ex-football superstar undergraduate, and master of writing (USC) Southern California University Alumni. Actor! Playwright! Director! Screenwriter! Filmmaker! Producer! And now Author! Holland was raised in Alabama, where he was cared for by his grandparents. At age 13, he moved to Long Island, New York to live with his single mother and three siblings. But, soon afterward he was forced to leave (run away) due to physical and mental abuse perpetrated by his biological mother. On the streets, among the lonely and forgotten, he managed to continue going to high school, showcasing his athletic ability in football, track and baseball. Though highly recruited, Mr. Holland sought refuge at a State University in Upstate New York. It is there, at Brockport State College, that the young Holland got into a theatre class and begin to study plays and the magical world of filmmaking.
Prior to authoring his last two books, Why Men Hurt and of course his most recent masterpiece, You're To Blame, Mr. Holland had written and produced a number of successful plays, not to make mention of the 1987 Lorraine Hansberry award winner Caught In The Middle With No Way Out , which went on to a successful Off-Broadway run. Others successful works have include the documentary film For The Love Of It, which showcased in the AFI in Los Angeles and Virginia Film Festival. Only In Hollywood, his winner of the Magic Johnson Buzz Award, showcased at the Pan African Film Festival. He has also produced a number of plays to include: The Last Night, Privileges, At Any Cost, and 2nd Chances. All plays were produced and performed for the public in Los Angeles for an 8 week run.
Now seasoned, Michael J. Holland's smile is worth a thousand words. Behind it lies an artist who is sensitive to the human struggle. His (now) universal work reflects the hardship and obstacles observed in everyday struggles in life as he now exposes it to you, the real American people.
