  • She is the daughter of Noreen Bernadette (O'Kane) and Francis Lawrence O'Donnell. Both of her parents are Irish-American scientists. Three of her grandparents immigrated to the U.S., with her maternal grandfather having lived in the country illegally for 16 years. Her family roots are in Derry, Belfast, and Donegal.
  • Around Thanksgiving 2016 she was diagnosed with skin cancer. She revealed the news of her diagnosis and recovery in March 2017, in the hopes of helping others avoid the same experience. Now, as a skin cancer survivor, O'Donnell gets a check every six months, and has upped her skin protection methods.
