(March 22, 2019) Had emergency surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to have her appendix removed which was successful.

Norah's workday typically begins at 4 a.m. when she reads her TV show's reports sent to her overnight. By 5 a.m. she's in the makeup chair. At 6 a.m. she records various voice-overs for that morning's show. At 6:30 it's showtime. After the show she heads to the gym at 1:30 p.m.

She is the daughter of Noreen Bernadette (O'Kane) and Francis Lawrence O'Donnell. Both of her parents are Irish-American scientists. Three of her grandparents immigrated to the U.S., with her maternal grandfather having lived in the country illegally for 16 years. Her family roots are in Derry, Belfast, and Donegal.

Around Thanksgiving 2016 she was diagnosed with skin cancer. She revealed the news of her diagnosis and recovery in March 2017, in the hopes of helping others avoid the same experience. Now, as a skin cancer survivor, O'Donnell gets a check every six months, and has upped her skin protection methods.
