‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Movie Recap And Spoilers: Did Cassandra Break The Multiverse?
Image
How much you are going to enjoy MCU’s latest buddy super-merc adventure, Deadpool and Wolverine, depends upon your willingness to be nostalgia-baited by Sony and Fox’s Marvel movies, tolerance for Deadpool’s overused meta and occasionally stale in your face humor, and, of course, if you are a fan of Hugh Jackman’s iconic take on Logan. The Marvel Cinematic Universe had struggled big time throughout its fourth phase and the first half of its fifth as well, despite having no competition from rivalling fronts—and no, it’s not superhero fatigue that has leached into the interconnected universe; it’s simply lacking a sense of ingenuity and honest effort in producing comic-book movies. As a result, MCU has veered once again to a good old fan service-oriented formulaic solution in the form of Deadpool and Wolverine, bringing together the iconic antiheroes to very literally and figuratively save...

Fallout 4 Player Fails To Discover Hidden Character After 2,000 Hours Of Gameplay
Image
A Preston Garvey impersonator exists in Fallout 4, appearing in a random encounter. This impersonator asks for a 100 cap donation, but quickly flees if recognized as a fake. Some players can go through entire playthroughs of the game without meeting this impersonator due to the nature of random encounters.

Fallout 4's Wasteland is populated by many interesting characters, from detective synths like Nick Valentine to keen newshounds like Piper Wright, or members of the Brotherhood of Steel such as Paladin Danse. While many are easily found on the Sole Survivor's main journey to find their son, there are some inhabitants that some players may never meet when exploring the game's world, as is evident by one Reddit user's recent post.

Strange_Ad4922 took to the r/fo4 Subreddit to share a clip of a dead Preston Garvey, asking why he was dead when exploring the Wasteland but alive back at their settlement.

10 Best Fallout 4 Unique Settlers In The Game, Ranked By How Cool They Are
Image
Settlement building is a core aspect of Fallout 4, with unique NPCs becoming traders to enhance stock and provide special items. Some named NPCs can be convinced to join Minutemen settlements, and some have quests or backstories. Unique settlers like Ron, Anne, and Doc bring specialized services and inventory upgrades to settlements when recruited.

One of the core aspects of Fallout 4 is its settlement building system, which allows the Sole Survivor to clear neglected areas and turning them into thriving small towns. As well as needing food, water, and power, these settlements can be upgraded with defenses and eventually traders. While any settler can be assigned to a trading stall, there are several unique NPCs dotted around the commonwealth that, as well as enhancing the stock, are pretty cool to have around.

When traveling throughout the Commonwealth or Fallout 4's various Dlc locations, the Sole Survivor may have a random encounter with groups of potential settlers.

The Minutemen in Fallout 4 struggle to make an impact but a new mod called "You And What Army 2" makes them a formidable force. With the mod, players can now enjoy a more substantial Minutemen presence in Fallout 4, offering better protection for settlements.

Fallout 4 is known for having plenty of factions vying for control of the irradiated ruins of the Commonwealth and while one of them may feel relatively useless, a new mod makes them significantly more effective at taking control. Waking up as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111 feels especially intimidating when the entire world has gone to ruin but one group of fighters, The Minutemen, is simply looking to make a difference and help their fellow Americans. "The Greatest Crime in the History of Mankind": Brian Azzarello's 100 Bullets Answers This Real-World Mystery
Image
The Trust is a villainous organization in 100 Bullets that gained power through a mysterious real-life event. Agent Graves and the Minutemen seek revenge on the Trust for betraying them. The Trust's origins date back to the New World and the Roanoke settlement, where they aimed to establish control and wealth without the responsibilities of government.

The villainous organization at the center DC/Vertigo's 100 Bullets known as the Trust cemented its power through a real-life event that remains a mystery to this day. The primary focus of the mega-series is on the violent, blood-soaked efforts of Agent Graves and the Minutemen to exact revenge for their sacking by the Trust. Despite their importance to the story, however, details about the Trust remain murky and unclear for most of the first half of the saga. While the mystery surrounding the Trust adds an interesting element to the overall storyline, it also...

Damon Lindelof Was 'Constantly Challenged' By White HBO Execs About Watchmen's Hooded Justice
Image
Are we as a human race still holding Damon Lindelof's feet to the fire for the ending of "Lost" or some of the sillier aspects of "Prometheus"? In the year of our lord 2023? Couldn't be me! For years, the somewhat divisive writer had earned the scorn of fans for some high-profile missteps a time or two in the past, but all of that should've been water under the bridge a long, long time ago. When he guided HBO's "The Leftovers" to the finish line back in 2017, he'd successfully wrapped a bow on one of the greatest shows of all time. Incredibly enough, he then followed that up with yet another huge success by doing the impossible and actually creating a worthy successor to Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel "Watchmen," telling a vital and unabashedly political story about where those "heroes" would've logically ended up years after the conclusion of the original comic.

Jag Bains wins the Power of Veto competition, securing his sixth win, and tying Michael Bruner's record, which was set in Big Brother 24. The DC/Vertigo series 100 Bullets told an epic crime tale of power, corruption and vengeance for over one-hundred issues, and left behind a rather large body count in its wake. 100 Bullets #100 – from the creative team of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso – was the spectacular culmination of the crime saga, which came to span hundreds of years, featuring dozens of characters, and many stunning deaths.

Over the course of the series, readers learned that Graves was the ex-leader of the Minutemen, a group of enforcers. In conflict with their former employers the Trust, Issue #100 saw their battle come to a chaotic and tragic end.

"Croatoa": The Brutal History of 100 Bullets' Minutemen

In the world of 100 Bullets, America is secretly ruled by a criminal cabal known as the Trust, a group of thirteen criminal families. Enforcing the Trust’s will are seven agents called the Minutemen. Over the course of the series, readers learn that the origins of the Trust trace back hundreds of years, and that the earliest incarnation of the Minutemen were responsible for one of the real world's most enduring mysteries.

100 Bullets was a Vertigo series created by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso. Starting from a deceptively simple premise, the series grew over time to chart a secret war between hidden players at the ultimate level of power.

Superman Exists in Watchmen's Reality - But Not How You Think
Image
The world of Watchmen may not have traditional superheroes, but that hasn't stopped Superman from having an impact on its universe. An account from the first Nite Owl reveals the role the Man of Steel played in shaping another world of heroes.

Though technically part of the DC Omniverse, the world of Watchmen has always been an outlier. While it is a world that does contain masked adventurers and even has its own godlike beings living within it, Watchmen didn't have a conventional superhero universe. It did have a collection of Golden Age heroes throughout the '40s, as well as a brief stint of Modern Age heroes in the '70s and '80s. But aside from a handful of masks, the world was largely absent of the kinds of heroes that are so ubiquitous on other Earths. Granted, their world did have Doctor Manhattan, but aside from that walking,...

Watchmen's Version of Catwoman Made Nite-Owl A Better Hero
Image
While Nite Owl may be one of the most heroic adventurers in Watchmen, he never would have gotten that far without his 'Catwoman'-like ally. Before Watchmen: Nite Owl examines Dan Dreiberg's history with the Twilight Lady and how she made him a better superhero.

The world of Watchmen is one very much like the real world, with the added exception that superheroes came into existence in the late 1930s and had a profound impact on society. Years after the arrival of the Golden Age heroes, the Minutemen, they were replaced by a younger team, the Crimebusters. The heroes of Watchmen might not be the most conventional, but for the most part, they all set out to do some real good in the world. Dan in particular was inspired in his youth by the adventures of the original Nite Owl and based his superhero persona on his role model.

Watchmen: Rorschach and Nite Owl’s Origins Make Them Mirror Opposites
Image
They may be one of the few heroic partnerships in Watchmen, but Nite Owl and Rorschach couldn't be more different if they tried. In Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #4, Rorschach reveals what truly set him and his partner apart from one another.

The world of Watchmen is one where the history of the world has been shaped by the presence of costumed adventurers. Starting with the Minutmen in the Golden Age, men and women took on colorful identities and began making substantive change in their world. While the Minutemen disbanded after only ten years, other 'masks' rose to replace the heroes of Watchmen. Dan Dreiberg, inspired by the actions of Hollis Mason, took on Mason's old hero identity and became the second Nite Owl. Nite Owl would join later up with Walter Kovacs, aka the brutal vigilante Rorschach. While they didn't always see eye-to-eye, they were one of the more 'successful' superhero partnerships.

Watchmen’s Iconic Smiley Face is a Tragic Symbol of Love
Image
Nothing brings Watchmen to mind more than the Comedian's iconic smiley face badge. But as Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #3 reveals, there's a sad history behind Edward Blake's button that connects him to one of the biggest regrets in his life.

From the very first issue of Watchmen, the grinning yellow face is perhaps the most identifiable image in the entire series. The badge belongs to the dark and nihilistic costumed adventurer, the Comedian, and is one of the few things left behind after his gruesome murder at the beginning of issue one. Throughout the story of Watchmen, the Comedian's button passes through several hands before ultimately being buried with the hero. Throughout the rest of the series, imagery evocative of the smiley face badge is seen, such as a crater on Mars, and serves as a haunting reminder of the death that put the series into motion.

Watchmen’s Unsung Hero Was Basically Its Captain America
Image
Many of the superheroes presented in the subversive comic series Watchmen aren't very 'super' or 'heroic', save for its surprisingly Captain America-like hero. Before Watchmen shined a light on the legacy left behind by one member of the Golden Age super-team, the Minutemen.

Though the majority of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' epic series Watchmen follows the lives of current and former masks in 1985, the series features a history of heroism dating back to the late '30s. Decades before the Crimebusters ever assembled, there were the Minutemen, a motley crew of colorful figures with heroes such as the original Nite Owl and Silk Spectre, Hooded Justice, Captain Metropolis, and the series' most controversial hero, the Comedian. Though the team stayed in action for close to a decade, the team disbanded in the late '40s after a series of public controversies and unfortunate endings for several of its members.

Watchmen: Hooded Justice's Comics Fate is The Franchise's Darkest Death
Image
It seems that the fate of one Watchmen character is much darker than fans expected. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #6 reveals what actually happened to one of its most mysterious heroes: the Golden Age costumed adventurer Hooded Justice.

Watchmen is a story by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons and focuses on an Earth whose history has been influenced by the presence of superheroes. The history of heroes in this world dates back to the late '30s with the creation of the Minutemen, a motley team of vigilantes. One notable member of this team was the brutal and mysterious Hooded Justice, the Minutemen's only masked hero whose identity was never publicly revealed. Hooded Justice disappeared shortly after the team disbanded with no confirmation as to his final fate. While characters in-universe and Watchmen fans have speculated on what happened to Hooded Justice, no answers were given in the series.

Watchmen: Silk Spectre's Entire Legacy Is Based On a Lie
Image
One Watchmen character may have been a hero in the Golden Age, but her background is anything but heroic. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #1 revealed that the original Silk Spectre wasn't exactly honest about her first heroic escapades.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' epic series Watchmen is a story of heroes that spans generations. Though the majority of the story is set in the mid '80s, it's history with superheroes dates back to the late '30s. Long before heroes like Rorschach and Doctor Manhattan ever came into the world, the streets of New York were protected by the Minutemen, Watchmen's original superhero team. Though they lacked powers or advanced weaponry, they did their job well enough with their fists alone. Even Silk Spectre, often seen as the more 'glamorous' member of the crew, knew how to fight just as well as her teammates.

Watchmen: Comedian's Missing Costume Finally Explains His Design Change
Image
The most notorious hero in Watchmen, the Comedian, has an outfit that may actually serve as a missing link between his two most well-known costumes. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #3 reveals the uniform Edward Blake wore between his time with the Minutemen and the U.S. government.

Of all the costumed adventurers in Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' story, the most controversial of the lot has to be the Comedian. Edward "Eddie" Blake started his career as the youngest member of the Minutemen, the world's first team of superheroes. However, after assaulting his teammate the Silk Spectre, Comedian was expelled from Watchmen's Minutemen team. He later took on government work, trading in his jester-like yellow outfit for a sturdier leather costume. While his new duds certainly offered him more protection in the field, it wasn't exactly the most thematically consistent with a hero name like 'Comedian'.

Watchmen: The Comedian Confirms One Popular Fan Theory Isn’t True
Image
A popular theory regarding the fate of one Watchmen character has been disproved by none other than the Comedian. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #6 revealed that the Golden Age hero, Hooded Justice, isn't who fans may have thought he was.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' critically lauded series Watchmen is a story that delves into the lives of a number of heroes and their personal hangups. However, while numerous details are provided about characters like Nite Owl or Rorschach, some heroes lives remain relatively unexplored. And no costumed adventurer in the story is more mysterious than member of the Minutemen, Hooded Justice. In fact, while the rest of the heroes in Watchmen are named, Hooded Justice's identity is never revealed. However, supplemental material to the story has led to one popular theory that the hero was actually Rolf Müller, a circus strongman whose body was discovered off the shore of Boston.

Watchmen Has Its Own Version of Batman & Robin
Image
It turns out that the world of Watchmen was hiding its very own Batman and Robin. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #5 introduced two unseen members of the Golden Age heroes that are the spitting image of the most famous dynamic duo in comics.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' iconic series Watchmen was home to a lot of heroes. While they were all original creations from Moore and Gibbons, fans of the comic know that Watchmen's main characters were all based on existing heroes DC had acquired from Charlton Comics. Rorschach was based on the Question, Nite Owl's legacy was based on the Blue Beetle, and the Comedian got his inspiration from Peacemaker. All these characters resembled their source material, at least superficially. But Moore and Gibbons' story took their pastiche characters to places the original heroes had never gone to.

Watchmen: Which Member Of The Minutemen Are You Based On Your Zodiac?

Watchmen Timeline Explained
Mike Cecchini Dec 16, 2019

We've made a complete and chronological timeline of the events of Watchmen, from the original book to the HBO show. It...wasn't easy.

This article contains nothing but spoilers for Watchmen, both the book and the HBO series.

HBO’s Watchmen timeline is non-linear and occasionally confusing (or “infuriating” as Dr. Manhattan puts it) in its use of time. The book from which it draws inspiration is similarly non-linear and occasionally confusing in its use of time. To make matters even trickier, the show expands upon and even retcons events that take place or are alluded to in the book.

So what’s a fan to do? Why, make a complete and chronological Watchmen timeline, of course! That’s a perfectly sane and normal activity for any well-adjusted adult, and it certainly didn’t give me any severe migraines or make me question my own perception of time at any point.

Watchmen Recap: The Hood Place — Plus, The Truth About Judd's Murder
Regina King in Watchmen (2019)
Judd Crawford’s killer is revealed in this week’s Watchmen. So is the man underneath Hooded Justice’s headwear. Turns out, they’re the same guy.

As many of you guessed, William Reeves — Angela’s grandfather — was the true identity of the masked Minutemen member. And as a side effect of swallowing all those Nostalgia pills last episode, Det. Abar gets a firsthand glimpse of the legendary superhero’s origin story as she relives the key moments of his life. Unfortunately, it comes at a price: Due to complications from ingesting someone else’s memories, Sister Night’s own...

So . . . Angela's Grandfather Is Definitely This Original Watchmen Vigilante, Right?
Watchmen keeps throwing twists at us week after week, and while some of them have been uncovered, there's one huge mystery the show has yet to answer: Will Reeves's past. Considering the integral role he plays to the plot, his story might be the key to solving Judd Crawford's murder. But although it's certain Will is indeed Angela's grandfather and the boy who survived the Tulsa Race Massacre, not much else is known about him.

Of course, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about his true identity. In fact, Reddit user calgodot theorized Will might be one of the more mysterious figures of the graphic novel: Hooded Justice. A vigilante who worked with the original Minutemen, Hooded Justice's identity was a puzzle even to his fellow heroes. If Will is the man hidden behind the hood, it would settle an old mystery and connect the show even more with the beloved graphic novel.

Sci Fi Fidelity Podcast: Watchmen
Michael Ahr Dave Vitagliano Nov 3, 2019

Our genre television podcast hosts take a closer look at the opening episodes of Watchmen on HBO to decide what’s really going on.

When we decided to take on Watchmen for the Sci Fi Fidelity podcast, we had no idea how different the series would be from its graphic novel source material. The show has proven to be exactly the “remix” that showrunner Damon Lindelof said it would be, but a central question of our podcast discussion is this: Do you have to be familiar with the 1986 Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons comic in order to understand what’s happening in the HBO series?

Other points of analysis include why this version of Watchmen decided to make race a central factor, whether or not police chief Judd Crawford is a good guy, why the costumed vigilantes like Red Scare and Looking Glass have such simplistic costumes,...

Watchmen: The Real History of Hooded Justice
Mike Cecchini Nov 24, 2019

HBO's Watchmen moves away from the work of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons with the real story of Hooded Justice.

This article contains major Watchmen spoilers.

The first episode of Watchmen focused primarily on establishing the 2019 of its world, and making certain new characters got sufficient introductions, and as unencumbered by the legacy elements of the comic as they could possibly be. But with each episode that follows, the larger history of this universe starts to get explored, whether it's by the introduction of legacy characters like FBI Agent Laurie Blake or Adrian "Ozymandias" Veidt, or the redefinition of a foundational character from the book like Hooded Justice in the context of his relationship to a new character like Angela "Sister Night" Abar.

American Hero Story: Minutemen puts the spotlight on Hooded Justice, who is canonically the first officially recognized masked vigilante adventurer in the Watchmen...

‘Watchmen’: Jeremy Irons to Play a Familiar Face in the HBO Adaptation
Watchmen is shaping up to be a fascinating beast. It’s not a straight adaptation of the classic of graphic novel, but rather a continuation and “remix” of sorts. With that in mind, /Film is reporting that Jeremy Irons is playing an older Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias. For those that need a refresher on the comic, Ozymandias is the “smartest man in the world” who was part of the second generation of Minutemen, a group of superheroes. When the group disbanded, Veidt formed a successful company, but secretly went to work on a project to create the illusion of an …...

12 Songs Given Second Lives as Famous TV Show Themes
Mad Men is ending, and while the show's opening credits are inseparable from RJD2's haunting theme, there was a time when that beat was known only as "A Beautiful Mine," by RJD2 and rapper Aceyalone.

Matthew Weiner originally wanted a Beck song to play as the show's opening theme, but the singer turned down every offer from the show's producers. Weiner was driving and listening to NPR one day when he heard "A Beautiful Mine" played as segue music between two stories and was immediately struck by it, though the version that ultimately was used was so different from...

We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen (2005)

"Our band could be your life," sang the Minutemen in History Lesson Part II – a line that embodied the fierce love the audiences of the Us indie underground held for their bands. The Minutemen were pioneers, coming out of the southern California hardcore punk scene, but to be tied to it, and living what they preached – "We jam econo," was a phrase bassist Mike Watt coined to describe a commitment to doing everything cheaply and independently. More than a history lesson, though, We Jam Econo is a deeply moving love letter from Watt to his friend – and the Minutemen's leader – D Boon, who died in...

Bill Withers: Lovely Day

127 Hours

There’s an ironic use of Bill Withers’ classic track in 127 Hours, as it accompanies the point at which our protagonist is at his most desperate – trapped in the middle of nowhere, facing certain death. Whist it may be a lovely day for anyone enjoying the freedom of the national park, it’s far from a lovely day for James Franco’s Aaron Ralston.

Billy Swan: I Can Help

Thor

Thor’s filled with moments of levity, and an early example of this is when we see some residents...

The 9 Best Movie Soundtracks of 2010
Much of this past year was spent talking about the visual aspect of movies, what with the whole 3-D revolution (or plague, depending on your perspective) and the increased sophistication of CGI effects. But let’s not forget the other half of the audio/visual equation.

There were plenty of musical moments to celebrate at the theater in 2010, and fans of film soundtracks had plenty to hang their hats on.

Here are our picks for the best of the bunch, and whether your tastes run to hip-hop, rock, or just a big, ol’ “Bonnnnng” sound, there’s something here for your ears.

9. ‘Grown Ups’

There wasn’t much to celebrate about the latest Happy Madison production (unless you were one of the film’s stars and got to hang out with your comedian buddies for a couple months on the company dime), but if there’s one thing every Adam Sandler movie knows,...
