Walt Disney Pictures has issued a press release for the upcoming D23 Expo. The expo is set to highlight Disney and Marvel Studios forthcoming film slate. After such a small presence at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, it’s clear that they were saving their best stuff, including Joss Whedon‘s superhero team-up film, The Avengers and Andrew Stanton‘s trip to Mars with John Carter for this year’s D-23.

In recent years, Comic-Con has been criticized for becoming too Hollywood as all the major studios would come down to San Diego and woo fans with their upcoming projects. This year, Disney -- which owns both Marvel and Pixar -- didn't have a big presence [1] there. Most surmised that was because Disney has its own version of Comic-Con, The D23 Expo, a few weeks later. That was confirmed a few weeks ago [2] and now we have details on specifically which movies Disney will have on hand at D23, which takes place in Anaheim, CA from August 19-21. And if you thought Comic-Con was being invaded by movies, you ain't seen nothing yet. Confirmed films to have a presence at D23 are as follows: The Muppets, John Carter, Brave, The Avengers, Frankenweenie, Oz: The Great and Powerful, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Wreck-It Ralph, and Monsters University. Attendees will also get to see the new,...

With Disney's big D23 event coming up later this month, they've now released a bunch of information on the event (who will be there, what's going to be talked about, and what to expect from the Expo).
All in all, it's about what you expected. There's going to be tons of stuff from Pixar (which is always great) and of course there is mention of The Avengers. I'm actually really hoping that we'll get more of a full teaser from The Avengers at this event. Remember, Avengers didn't have a big showing at Sdcc because Disney was saving it for D23, so hopefully there will be plenty of "Wow" moments from that film here. Anyway, here's the full release with all the info on what's going on this year:

Pixar’s first cinematic fantasy tale featuring a female lead debuted its new teaser poster today. The film centers around a Scottish princess (Kelly Macdonald) who is an unruly, but skilled archer. When she accidentally defies a local custom, she brings chaos to her kingdom and must seek the wisdom of an old wise woman (Julie Walters) to set things right.
First-time feature director Mark Andrews explains: “What we want to get across [with the teaser poster] is that this story has some darker elements. Not to frighten off our Pixar fans – we’ll still have all the comedy and the great characters – but we get a little bit more intense here.” His previous directorial effort was the Pixar short One Man Band (the opening short to Cars), along with Andrew Jimenez.
Pixar’s Brave hits theaters next summer on June 22, 2012.
Update: Watch the teaser trailer.

First movie images from Brave, Disney's animated adventure with Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Director Mark Andrews is the co-director of the very entertaining One Man Band Pixar short which he wrote alongside Andrew Jimenez. Despite some sources showing Reese Witherspoon as the lead in Brave, this is incorrect, it is in fact Kelly Macdonald as the voice of Merida, a skilled archer and the daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). tuesday thursday top ten: for the listmaker in me and the listlover in you
What follows is a reworking of a post originally published in 2007. It's two years later and you know what that means: Pixar has given us two more classics. Up brings their feature film count to ten. You know what Ten means: Top Ten Time!
Pixar by Preference
Cars (John Lasseter, 2006) 117 min.
Pixar's only dud. Chief among its problems: the anthropomorphics were forced. Let me get this straight: Cars as bugs on windshields of cars as cars who act like humans and they even sleep in hotels for cars -- What? What? It's not quite Shark Tale in the realm of painful "they're just like us!" pandering but it's not 'good' either. I would give it a second chance except it's also Pixar's longest feature... too long by about 23 minutes. Thankfully, they seem to have reversed their bloated running time trending.
