Bridget Jones is back where she belongs: on our screens and in our hearts.
With “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which debuted Friday on Peacock 24 years after the original rom-com introduced us to Renée Zellweger’s Oscar-nominated performance as the lovingly bumbling heroine, one thing remains as true as ever: men can’t get enough of Bridget’s unwitting charm.
Now in “Bridget Jones 4,” Leo Woodall — previously a breakout heartthrob (and criminal) in “The White Lotus” Season 2 — lays on the dimpled charm as Roxster, Bridget’s younger, magnetic love interest, and competing suitor to Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), teacher of Bridget’s children.
If you found yourself swooning for the 28-year-old London-born actor, we know just the project you should watch him in next. Premiering last year on Netflix, “One Day” shows Woodall in a softer light than his bad boy “White Lotus” rabble-rouser, but his sex appeal and...

Netflix's "One Day" was a major hit series, and should prompt viewers to watch the 2006 film "Starter for 10," based on a David Nicholls novel. Nicholls adapted a few of his books into screenplays, with the film "Starter for 10" receiving critical acclaim (and the movie version of "One Day" failing critically). "Starter for 10" and Netflix's "One Day" received similar Rotten Tomatoes scores, yet the series was more successful globally.
Netflix's One Day was one of the most streamed series upon its debut on the streaming platform, and its success should prompt those who enjoyed it to watch a film that premiered 18 years before the show's release. The 2024 romantic drama television series is an adaptation of David Nicholls' 2009 book of the same name, which chronicles the complicated and devastating love story between Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley. One Day is a compelling love story that resonates with viewers through its unique approach to romance and a lifetime journey. Season 1 wraps up beautifully, leaving no room for a follow-up season, despite fans' desires for more of Emma and Dexter's story. Netflix may explore new avenues with an adaptation of author David Nicholls' upcoming novel, providing a fresh take on love stories for fans.
Netflix has yet again struck gold with its 14-episode series, One Day. Since the show's release on Feb. 8, 2024, it has climbed to the top of Netflix's Global Top 10 chart, spending its third week in the list's second spot. The series is an adaptation of author David Nicholls' 2009 novel of the same name. This is also not the first time the author's work has been adapted to screens, with the novel being adapted into a movie starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in 2011.

Netflix's One Day series eliminates Dexter and Tilly's sexual encounter that occurs in the book. The decision to remove this plot point was for the best as it would have caused major drama and soured the relationships between the characters. Tilly's character in the show is much more well-rounded and likable and has a much closer friendship with Emma compared to the book.
Netflix's One Day left out one part of Dexter's story from the book that would've made the TV adaptation worse. Based on David Nicholls' 2009 novel, One Day tells the complex love story between Emma Morley (Ambika Mod) and Dexter Mayhew (Leo Woodall) as it sways between platonic and romantic. Beginning on the night the pair first met at their university graduation ball on July 15, 1988, One Day traces how both Emma and Dexter's lives unfold, together and apart, over a 20-year period, with each new episode taking...

Ambika Mod shines as Emma, providing a more grounded and realistic performance compared to Anne Hathaway's portrayal. The episodic format of the Netflix series allows for more character development and a deeper exploration of the story compared to the 2011 film adaptation. The chemistry between the leads, Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, is palpable and genuine, creating a more believable and passionate romance on screen.
Netflix's One Day isn't the first on-screen adaptation of the 2009 novel of the same name, but manages to iterate on the source material much better than the Anne Hathaway film. An emotional roller coaster, the original One Day book was a fast-seller when it first hit shelves, begging for a film adaptation due to its popularity and a narrative conducive to replication on the big screen. Forget all about Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Rafe Spall and co. That lot are yesterday’s chip paper. The stars of the 2011 One Day film have been superseded by this new bunch, now bringing David Nicholls’ hit 2009 romance novel to life for a new 14-episodes Netflix series. Adapted by Wild Rose and Three Girls screenwriter Nicole Taylor, One Day is a bittersweet love story set across two decades. It’s the story of Emma and Dexter, whose first night together at their university graduation sparks almost two decades of will-they-won’t-they romance.

As I queued up the first episode of Netflix’s “One Day,” I was reminded of the words of a great man: “I am ready to get hurt again.”
“One Day” of course shares its title and source material with David Nicholls’ 2009 novel and Lone Scherfig’s 2011 film — but in Nicole Taylor’s episodic version (executive produced by Nicholls) starring Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall, the story finds its wings, telling the story of Emma (Mod) and Dexter (Woodall) over decades with a snapshot of just one day in the year.
The episodic structure lends itself beautifully to Nicholls’ premise, letting each year breathe and allowing viewers to settle into Emma and Dex’s shifting dynamics — and by extension, the wider world of nebulous relationships. There is the night they (almost) slept together, the day they miss each other’s calls, the trip to Europe (with one bed), the catastrophic...

David Nicholls’ romance One Day has been adapted for the screen for a second time, this time on Netflix: here’s the trailer.
Novelist David Nicholls has had considerable success as a screenwriter, from penning episodes of Cold Feet and BBC dramas The 7:39 and Aftersun to adapting his own novels Starter For Ten and Us.
His most well known novel, One Day, was previously adapted into a 2011 film by Nicholls himself. Directed by Lobe Scherfig, it saw Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess take on the central roles of Emma and Dexter, alongside Patricia Clarkson, Ken Stott and Romola Garai. It received middling reviews which particularly criticized Hathaway’s Yorkshire accent.
A new adaptation is heading to Netflix, this time as a limited series. The synopsis reads as follows:

Last year, we shared the news that Fremantle’s Euston Films is set to produce a six-part horror comedy series called Wrecked for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Euston’s Noemi Spanos and BBC’s Tommy Bulfin executive produced the show, which has been written by Ryan J. Brown – who said he “wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of Scream, the unsettling atmosphere of The Shining and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of The Cabin in the Woods.” Wrecked is now set to premiere at London’s Fright Fest on August 26th (the show will launch on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer later this autumn), and in anticipation of the premiere a batch of images from the show have arrived online… images that seem to reveal that the killer wears a duck costume and is called Quacky! The images can be seen...

The Baby is probably the weirdest show you’ll see in a long time. But anyone with a dark sense of humour, a stomach for gore and about four hours on their hands really should check out The Baby. Ostensibly a comedy horror, but also a family drama, a tragic love story, a nightmarish look at motherhood and a paranoid, supernatural parable (in eight handy 30 minute-or-less episodes), The Baby tells the story of Natasha (Michelle de Swarte), a woman with no kids, who is more than content to stay that way until a baby literally falls off a cliff and into her arms. This is no ordinary baby… it’s a killer baby! Or a certainly a sort of Final Destination-powers, Midwich Cuckoos-got-nothing-on-you infant who destroys anyone who tries to separate him from his chosen surrogate mother/victim by causing accidents or occasionally engaging in out-and-out mind control.

Motherhood — specifically early motherhood — is hell. It’s a concept that’s been depicted plenty of times in film and television over the decades, yet it still manages to be a topic rife with material for more. HBO’s new horror-comedy “The Baby” is the latest offering into that particular canon. As one character in “The Baby” explains, when it comes to raising a baby, “Well, no one really gets it, do they? Not unless they’re in it. In the house all day, no one to talk to. Scream, nap, eat, shit, repeat. It’s a lot.” This is after another character asks the lead whether she’s started hallucinating yet. No, not any of the expected supernatural hallucinations, but the typical motherhood hallucinations of killing your child for a little peace for once.
Naturally, as a horror-comedy, “The Baby” takes the motherhood-as-hell concept and stretches it out to...

HBO debuted the full-length official trailer for "this year's most terrifying new comedy - a horror thriller series from HBO titled The Baby, created by Lucy Gaymer & Sian Robins-Grace. This looks so twisted and freaky - I really like this kind of flip-it-upside-down concept. When 38-year-old Natasha is unexpectedly landed with a baby, her life of doing what she wants, when she wants, dramatically implodes... "Where does it come from? What does it want? And what lengths will Natasha have to go to in order to get her life back? She doesn't want a baby. The baby wants her." It stars Michelle De Swarte as Natasha, Amira Ghazalla,...

Kennedy stars as Jamie, who infiltrates a cruise ship called The Sacramentum, in a bid to find his sister, who has gone missing after working aboard the ship on a previous tour.
As Jamie is initiated into the 3,000-strong crew he meets the different factions it’s comprised of, from the theater workers to the “mafias” and low-paid staff, and their life of partying and excess. Meanwhile a series of bloodthirsty murders are taking place on board, which Jamie is determined to uncover.
Joining Kennedy and Rowan, are Thaddea Graham (“The Irregulars”) as Vivian, Harriet Webb (“I May Destroy You”) as Karen and Jodie Tyack (“The Window”) as Pippa.
