Dolly Parton’s upcoming special, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas,” will help ring in the holiday season on Thursday, December 1, 2022. The movie musical airs at 8pm Et/Pt on NBC and will feature special guests Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmie Allen, Zach Williams, and Miley Cyrus, joining the iconic superstar for some lighthearted fun.

The film’s cast includes Tom Everett Scott, Angel Parker, Ana Gasteyer, Mary Lane Haskell, Bryan Batt, and Brendan Bradley. John Newberg, Rachel Parton George, Cassie Parton Griffith, Rhoda Griffis, Liam Rauhoff, and Steve Summers also star.

Joe Lazarov directed from a screenplay by David Rambo. Lazarov, Rambo, Dolly Parton, Sam Haskell, and Hudson Hickman executive produced, and Billy Levin and Steve Summers served as producers. Emmy winner Kathryn Burns provided the choreography along with assistant choreographer David Hull.

The streamer dropped a trailer for its upcoming original holiday movie musical, “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square,” on Wednesday, featuring the legendary singer-songwriter’s vocals to get everyone in the mood for a small-town winter adventure.

“Christmas is a time for sharing, knowing you’ve been blessed,” Parton sings before being revealed on-screen in a glittery, glowing white ensemble.

“Who are you?” Christine Baranski’s character asks her. “What do you want from me?”

Parton replies that she’s “Angel” and she wants “change.” This is because Baranski’s character, the rich Regina Fuller, returns to her hometown after her father’s death to evict the townspeople and sell the land to a mall developer.

Netflix has set the premiere date for its Dolly Parton holiday special Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square. The streaming giant announced Tuesday that the holiday title, starring Parton, Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams and Jeanine Mason, will premiere on Nov. 22

Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square, directed and choreographed by Debbie Allen, follows a rich woman named Regina (Baranski) who seeks to sell her father’s land to a mall developer. However after an encounter with a guardian angel (Parton), Regina undergoes a Grinch-like change of heart and rekindles connections with the locals of her hometown.

The Netflix special is also set to feature 14 original songs by Dolly Parton.

Rounding out the Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square cast are Josh Segarra, Mary Lane Haskell, Matthew Johnson and Selah Kimbro Jones.

“We should all walk humbly through this life, but if there’s ever been anyone who deserves a ‘thank you’ or pat-on-the-back, it’s Dolly Parton,” declares Sam Haskell, executive producer of the Netflix anthology series “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings.” In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), he adds, “She is an international icon beloved by the world because she loves the world back.”

Parton, Haskell and the producing team debuted the eight-part series last November. Each episode is based on a story from one of her songs, including “These Old Bones” starring Kathleen Turner and Ginnifer Goodwin, which is entered this summer on the Emmy ballot in the TV movie category. He says that Netflix jokingly refers to their movie as “Blonde Mirror” after successfully entering “Black Mirror” in this same category the past few years.

She has now returned to television with “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” an eight-part anthology series based on stories from her songs, including “These Old Bones,” which is entered this summer on the Emmy ballot in the TV movie category.
