Biography

    • Eric Weinrib is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, whose work has appeared on HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, Amazon Prime, Tubi, Vice TV and in theaters. Weinrib's Vice TV documentary "Between Musk and Mars" was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award. His hour-long HBO special, "The Paradise Papers," won a New York Press Club Award for business reporting and his Hulu documentary, "Russia's War on Hip-Hop," won the L.A. Press Club's National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Award. Weinrib's "Jamaica for Sale" series went viral in Jamaica, garnering over 10 million views online and igniting a national debate. "Jamaica for Sale" episodes went on to win an Overseas Press Club Citation of Excellence and a Jamaica Press Association Award nomination.

Weinrib directed "Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story" alongside fellow director Nate Pommer. The feature documentary is a career-spanning look at immigrant punk band Gogol Bordello, featuring exclusive footage of the band both on and offstage spanning two decades. "Scream of My Blood" world premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival where it won a Special Jury Mention. The movie won Audience Awards at the Calgary Underground Film Festival and the Warsaw International Film Festival. Variety's Stephen Rodrick describes the movie as "powerful" and "essential."

Weinrib produced and directed "Roseanne for President!," the critically acclaimed, award-winning, feature-length documentary that presents an intimate portrait of comedic icon Roseanne Barr as seen through the warped lens of her 2012 run for president of the United States. The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Founders Prize at the Traverse City Film Festival. "Roseanne for President!" was acquired by IFC Films and opened theatrically on July 1, 2016. The movie became available for streaming on the Hulu platform on Inauguration Day 2017. Newsweek selected it as "one of seven movies and shows to watch" online the following weekend. The Daily Beast describes it as "Intimate and brilliantly observed" and the New York Times states, "Politics meets celebrity in Eric Weinrib's fascinating documentary 'Roseanne for President!'"

Weinrib is a longtime collaborator of Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore, beginning as an archival researcher on "Fahrenheit 9/11," which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Weinrib produced on Moore's Academy Award-nominated "SiCKO" and "Capitalism: A Love Story." He worked with President Clinton strategist Chris Lehane in Moore's rapid-response "war room" on the publicity tours of all three films.

Weinrib's award-winning short film, "Jimmy Walks Away", is a Sundance success story. "Jimmy Walks Away" was licensed by Showtime Networks for broadcast and was included on "Park City; The Sundance Collection," a DVD compilation of Sundance Film Festival award-winning shorts. The film was an official selection at over 20 other film festivals, including the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival and the Seattle International Film Festival. It was also selected by Troma Entertainment for their Cannes Film Festival sidebar. The Village Voice describes "Jimmy Walks Away" as a "comic gem."
