Finn Wolfhard might be growing beyond Stranger Things stardom, but he still credits the show as a rite of passage. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he reflected on how his time on the Netflix hit prepared him for Hell of a Summer, his directorial debut.
"I grew up on that set and was really interested in filmmaking and would stay every day after I would be done," Wolfhard said.
Known for his breakout role in Stranger Things, the actor-turned-director recalled sticking around post-curfew "just to watch the filmmakers make the show." The Netflix set became a classroom, an informal crash course ahead of Wolfhard pursuing a career in directing.
"There's a lot of stuff that I definitely learned from that and the way you communicate to crew and actors."

After making a splash at the Oscars with Anora, Neon is following it up with Hell of a Summer, the teen comedy-slasher film from co-directors Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk.
Neon releases Hell of Summer in theaters April 4 following its premiere at TIFF in 2023. The ensemble cast includes Wolfhard and Bryk alongside Fred Hechinger, D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai and Abby Quinn in the story of a masked killer targeting the counselors at a summer camp in the woods. The Hollywood Reporter can share exclusive first-look images above and below, along with a new clip.
Wolfhard and Bryk, who connected while working as young actors on the set of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, started working together on the script for Hell of a Summer back in 2019. “I loved slasher and horror films growing up, but something that Billy and I really bonded over was our shared love of comedy, and specifically teen comedies,” Wolfhard tells THR.

The new episode 7 in season 3 of the ABC police procedural show Will Trent adds a significant amount of thrill, and even horror, to it, making it quite easily the best episode this season. The plot follows on from episode 6, at the end of which Apd detective Angie Polaski had come to the conclusion that the usual suspect, John Shelley, is not the actual perpetrator in the series of rapes and murders that had been committed. Therefore, in this week’s presentation, Angie and Will Trent focus on trying to find the real killer and catching them before it is too late, for they’ve been continuing with their killing spree and are even inside the Apd building, stuck in the thunderstorm like everyone else.
Spoiler Alert

The View co-hosts are reacting to the controversial Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary sketch, “Black Jeopardy.”
This is not the first time SNL has done a “Black Jeopardy” sketch with Tom Hanks, but some Maga supporters were displeased with how they were portrayed.
At one point in the sketch, Kenan went to shake Tom‘s hand. Tom cowered with fear when Kenan approached.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Some conservative viewers were not laughing at that part. I guess they thought this was [a new sketch]. There was a new addition, but this is a callback [to a past sketch].”
“The fact remains that they’re making anyone who voted for Trump look like a racist, and that’s why they’re mad,” Joy Behar then said.
About voters who chose Trump in 2024, Joy continued, “I personally would never do that because I don’t believe that any group is one thing.

This week marks the 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live (or SNL as it is more colloquially known). In its half-century of running, SNL has become a comedic institution unmatched in television history. Conceived by Lorne Michaels, the visionary who still helms the show to this day, SNL follows an iconic structure that consists of a celebrity host (and monologue),a musical guest, sketches performed by a principal cast, a weekend update news segment, and, always, the declaration of the iconic, "live from New York it's Saturday Night."
A vast number of industry legends have gotten their start on SNL, including the likes of Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, and Mike Myers. However, few people know the truth behind SNL's chaotic origins in 1975, or how close the beloved show was to failing to exist at all. Luckily, this is the...

Ernie Hudson isn't ready to say goodbye to the Ghostbusters franchise just yet. The actor, who has played Winston Zeddemore in the series since the 1984 original, recently shared what he hopes to see happen with his character in a future sequel.
Speaking with Screen Rant at the WGA Awards, Hudson shared that he wants "to see Winston sort of head the teams" of Ghostbusters in the next movie. "I think the studio is focused on the family, which is a good thing, but I also would like to see Winston take a team and spin-off in other directions. That would be a lot of fun," he continued. "They talk about retirement, but I don't want him to just be that guy who sits in the office. I'd love to see him, like in the original films, really get down and dirty and go at it."

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series that shines a spotlight on the scripts for this year’s buzziest films is now pointing the viewfinder on Saturday Night, the Jason Reitman-directed film that tells the origin story of NBC’s venerable late-night franchise by focusing on the 90 minutes leading up to its TV debut.
The flick written by Reitman and Gil Kenan takes place on October 11, 1975, when an ambitious troupe of young comedians and writers would go on to change television forever. Formerly titled SNL 1975 (that’s the title on the script), the film tells the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night leading up to the first-ever broadcast of SNL.

After bowing theatrically in September, E.L. Katz's religious horror movie Azrael is poised to join Shudder on October 25, 2024. A perfect Halloween watch, the film stars Samara Weaving as Azrael, a woman who escapes captivity from a pious cult of wicked worshipers and is systematically stalked by the members for a ritual sacrifice. Of course, beyond the protagonist's namesake, the movie title has an angelic/demonic connotation that bears further scrutiny.
In addition to parsing the mythological meaning of the movie's title, it's worth explaining how the twisted plot plays into biblical lore and reinforces the eternal struggle between good and evil. Far from only the protagonist's moniker, Azrael has a religious historical subtext that dovetails into the devious horror story.

E.L. Katz' new action horror film Azrael has almost no spoken dialogue, which makes it easy to miss some of the more crucial explanations of the world in which the movie takes place. Starring one of horror's greatest scream queens, Samara Weaving, Azrael takes place in a post-apocalyptic world many years after the biblical Rapture, the final ascension of the holy and righteous into Heaven. The survivors are plagued by demonic humanoid creatures known as the Burned Ones, who constantly hunger for human flesh and blood.
Azrael, which is now showing, opens with Weaving's Azrael and her lover Kenan traveling through the woods, fleeing from a cult of survivors who believe that speech is a sin, and have surgically removed their vocal cords in response to what they believed to be the reason they were not chosen. They are captured and separated, and Azrael is tied up in an...

Did we need E.L. Katz’s Azrael to hammer home the point that Samara Weaving is a formidable final girl? Yes, and no. Since Weaving left such an unforgettable impact as the unyielding heroine in Ready or Not, it’s sort of a struggle to shake that image when you try to fully immerse yourself in the world of Azrael. What helps though, is Azrael’s decidedly peculiar world-building. The narrative being almost completely devoid of any dialogue already meant we’d have to do without exposition. The less you are told, the closer you look.

We don’t know what year Azrael drops us in. But the title card’s half-hearted initiation does tell us that the world we’re walking into is post-Rapture. The evangelical faction of the survivors has done away with the sin of speaking. The cross on their...

Samara Weaving is a horror movie icon. She burst onto the scene in and as The Babysitter, where she played the leader of a demonic cult masquerading as a sweet and upstanding resident in the suburbs. She later went on to cameo in the sequel to that Netflix release, alongside another budding horror enthusiast, Jenna Ortega. Weaving teamed up with Steven Yeun in Mayhem where they played two employees trying to resist the effects of an experimental virus that was causing everyone in their workplace to go berserk. And even if these films went under the radar of horror fans, everyone sat up and took notice when she took on a rich and murderous family in Ready or Not. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director says original cast will be “actual characters” this time around
After making small, but vital, appearances in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the original cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson will return for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but this time, they’ll thankfully have bigger roles.
While speaking with SFX Magazine, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan promised that the original Ghostbusters cast will feel “more fully fleshed out” in the Frozen Empire. “That’s the moment that’s really thrilling for me as a Ghostbusters fan: watching their involvement in the story redefine itself, grow and become more fully fleshed out in a way that speaks to the promise of the original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, and what was glimpsed in the fields outside of Summerville in Afterlife,” Kenan explained. “There’s a direct line from there into who they are now and how they act here in our new story.“

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan has revealed that the original Ghostbusters characters will have more to do in the upcoming sequel than they did in 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
The original Ghostbusters — Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Dr. Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) — only made a scene-stealing cameo in Afterlife, much to the disappointment of the franchise's longtime fans; it's a mistake that seemingly won't be made twice. Director Gil Kenan reveals that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is "scary" but that it still has humor. According to the director, swings in tone between scary and funny help both be more effective. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will likely be rated PG-13, meaning the sequel won't be delving too far into horror territory.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan explains why the upcoming movie has some genuinely "scary" moments. Serving as a sequel to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the upcoming film sees newcomers like Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace team up with original Ghostbusters cast members like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson to take down a new enemy in New York City. Trailers for the film have teased the arrival of the "death chill" phenomenon and a sinister new villain called Garraka, but they've also confirmed that there will be plenty of jokes.

The official runtime for Five Nights at Freddy's has been revealed for Blumhouse’ live-action adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s popular survival horror video game series.
According to the AMC Theatres website, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie will have a total running time of 110 minutes, or an hour and 50 minutes, providing the titular villain and his band of evil animatronics enough time to give Josh Hutcherson’s character hell. Despite not receiving the R-rating that fans were hoping for, its PG-13 rating still promises to deliver a "violent" and "bloody" adaptation, teasing the story’s faithfulness to the original game. The long-awaited movie is set to cover the events from Cawthon’s first Fnaf game, which launched back in Aug. 2014.

In his otherwise astute Cahiers du Cinéma review of About Dry Grasses, Josué Morel describes the main character of Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s latest epic work, Samet (Deniz Celiloglu), as a frustrated, badly loved, and, at times, angry man, who’s “perhaps even a pedophile.” While it can be seductive, sometimes convenient, to reduce the ambivalence of a characterization to something so clear, the manner in which Morel pins Samet down constitutes a fundamental misunderstanding of Ceylan’s commitment to capturing, among other things, the dimensions of child-adult and pupil-teacher relations in all their complexity.
About Dry Grasses involves a complaint about transgressive behavior by Samet toward one of his female students, 14-year-old Sevim (Ece Bagci), with whom he’s nurtured a caring bond within an institution where any expression of affection would be fundamentally at odds with its pedagogy and ethos. The plot of Ceylan’s film isn’t...

Kenan Thompson says 'Good Burger 2' will be "completely different" from the original. The 'Kenan and Kel' star and his co-star Kel Mitchell, both 44, portrayed burger joint employees, Dexter Reed and Ed, in the 1997 comedy flick, which is based on the comedy sketch of the same name on the Nickelodeon series 'All That', and the follow-up is set to be it's own "funny quirky little movie".He told the 'Today' show: "We want to make a funny quirky little movie, but everybody's much much older now. And we're going to have to get past how different everybody looks because it's been 25 years."But then, if we're able to enjoy the story along with that, hopefully, we'll have balance."Kenan then quipped: "Like, me and Kel (Mitchell) still look the same, but, I can't speak for everybody."The original followed the pair as they tried...
