Darby Slick

Darby Slick wrote the biggest hit to come out of San Fransisco in the 1960s. "Somebody To Love". He was, along with Grace Slick and brother Jerry Slick, a founding member of The Great Society. Darby was the band leader and spent a lifetime leading bands. Darby played all three of Bill Graham's first San Francisco shows, benefits for the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and Graham's first Fillmore Auditorium show. He also played the Family Dog's first show, and many times for them at the Avalon Ballroom. Darby Jammed with such luminaries as Jerry Garcia, John Lee Hooker and a long List of stellar players. He studied the music of India full time with India's foremost musician, the teacher of Ravi Shankar, Maestro Aki Akbar Khan. Darby lives with his wife Ginger Carlson in Hawaii.
