Hulu has revealed first look photos of Control Freak, a new horror movie featuring Star Wars franchise star Kelly Marie Tran. A release date for the film has also been announced.

Per Hulu,Control Freak will start streaming exclusively on Hulu on March 13, 2025. From WorthenBrooks and Hulu Originals, the movie will be made available on Disney+ internationally on a later date yet to be determined. The feature film was spawned from the short film Control featured in the second season of Hulu's Bite Size Halloween event in 2021. Shal Ngo, the writer and director of the original short, returned to write and direct Control Freak as well. The filmmaker's previous work includes The Park, The Box, and The Last Fisherman.

Holy hell this year’s SXSW Film Festival really isn’t messing around.

The previous announcement unveiled a stacked horror lineup that includes headiners Evil Dead Rise and opener Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

In addition, they revealed several prominent horror titles that will premiere as part of the Midnighters program, including the Sundance hit Talk to Me and the surprise sequel to Becky, The Wrath of Becky.

It turns out, the programming team isn’t finished!

SXSW announced another wave of film programming today, including an eighth Midnighter.

20th Digital Studio and Hulu Originals have released first-look images of Appendage, a horror comedy starring Hadley Robinson that will have its world premiere at SXSW next month. Also starring Kausar Mohammed and Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), the film from writer-director Anna Zlokovic will stream on Hulu later this year.

South by Southwest on Wednesday revealed the second half of its lineup for this year’s edition, set for March 10-19.

This includes Visions, the Global section presented by Mubi, 24 Beats, and Festival Favorites plus numerous additions to the Headliners, TV Premieres, Narrative and Documentary Spotlight and other sections.

New on the sked is Janine Nabers and Donald Glover’s Amazon Studios series Swarm and Lee Sung Jin’s Beef, respectively the opening- and closing-night TV premieres. They join the previously announced opening-night world premiere of Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

This year’s closing-night film will be announced closer to the event. In addition, there is another movie to be announced for the fest’s Monday, March 13 slot. Donald Glover’s Amazon show Swarm, Apple’s making-of Tetris movie and Disney+ series American Born Chinese are among the new additions to the TV and film lineup at the upcoming SXSW festival.

The Elizabeth Banks-produced MGM movie Bottoms, from the team behind Shiva Baby, is set for the headliners section, joining the Taron Egerton-fronted Tetris and previously announced titles Problemista, from A24, franchise flick Evil Dead Rise, and Eva Longoria’s directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot. After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends and its upcoming sequel Honeymoon Friends for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead into another Hulu Original: the sci-fi horror movie The Mill. It’s said that The Mill is largely a one-man show, but Scoot McNairy (Monsters), Pat Healy (Station 19) and Karen Obilom (House Party) are also in the cast.

One of streamer Hulu’s original contributions to this year’s Halloween programming is terrifying new British horror film “Matriarch.”

In the film, after an overdose nearly takes her life, Laura Birch escapes from the high-stakes pressure of the advertising world to return to her roots. Accepting an invitation home from her estranged mother, Laura hopes the time away in the secluded English village will help calm the demons raging inside of her. She soon discovers that the locals of the town are all protecting an unspeakably dark secret – a secret that involves not only her mother but her own terrifying destiny as well.

The cast includes Jemima Rooper, Kate Dickie, Franc Ashman and Keith David Bartlett.

“Matriarch” is written and directed by Ben Steiner (“Monsterland 2”). Executive producers include David Worthen Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian, and Jenna Cavelle with production services by Sharp House producers Ian Sharp and Eoin O’Faolain, and co-producer Alexa Waugh.

“Domino: Battle of the Bones,” a comedy from NBA player-turned-filmmaker Baron Davis, has scored domestic distribution rights from TriCoast Entertainment.

Fantasia International Film Festival has unveiled its full programme for its 21st edition, which runs from July 13-August 2 in Montreal.

This year’s edition will close with the international premiere of South Korean historical drama A Taxi Driver, starring Snowpiercer’s Song Kang-ho, with director Jang Hoon in attendance.

Fantasia will also host the North American premiere of Cannes Competition title Good Time, starring Robert Pattinson, and a special screening of David Leitch’s Atomic Blonde with Charlize Theron in the festival’s Action! section.
