Biography

    • Malachy Fergus Godfrey was born in Ashford, Middlesex, England. Due to several moves of home as a child, he bounced around several schools in Ashford, Osterley and Isleworth. However, he finalized his secondary education at Sunbury Manor School. During this time, he assisted with sound and lighting for several small school productions and sporting events.

Following secondary school, he enrolled at Spelthorne College where he obtained A Levels in Physics, Computing, Mathematics and Design Technology. Always having a strong interest in sci-fi and robotics, his final Design Technology project was a gold colored robot dog that he named "K-10" in tribute to the Tom Baker years of the TV show "Doctor Who". Sadly, no space lasers were present in the final design.

During the same time period, Malachy also worked part time as a lighting operator at the Queens's Theater in London's West End. Notable productions worked on were "Phantom of the Opera", "Macbeth" and "Little Shop of Horrors".

Following this period, Malachy enrolled at University of Hertfordshire where he obtained a BSc in Computer Science (Software Engineering) with specialties in Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing. Also of note during this time, he was a multiple contributor of short stories and articles for PSIFA "Hypo-Space", a campus run magazine focusing on Science Fiction and Fantasy. During his final year as a student, he also took over as editor for this publication.

In 1994, Malachy enrolled at University of Greenwich where he obtained a PGCE / Masters in Technology and Education. During the final semester, an opportunity arose to be an exchange teacher in Charlton, MA. Jumping at the opportunity, he got permission from the university to have this count as his final teaching assessment to allow completion of his course.

Continuing his career in teaching mathematics and science, Malachy moved to Traverse City, MI which he still calls home today. Sadly, due to budget cuts in the school system, his teaching career was cut short however. He jumped between a variety of both inside and outside sales positions including working with WKLT, FOX-FM and YOU-FM. Today he finds himself operating a space themed Karaoke Cab in Traverse City, MI called "Car Trek" where he provides wine and brewery tours while customers read the karaoke screen lyrics and sing their hearts out.

In recent years he has also rekindled his love of theater and the silver screen when he became involved as a producer in the 2022 "In Search of Tomorrow " 80's sci-fi documentary. Since then, he has worked on some animated TV show projects and continues to particularly enjoy working on various indie Sci-Fi and Horror movies, both behind the scenes and in minor acting roles.

Trivia

  • Due to a quirk of fate in visiting Paramount Studios at the right time in the summer of 1992, Malachy got the unexpected opportunity to appear for a few seconds as an uncredited extra on the Victorian streets of San Francisco in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (Season 6: Episode 1: "Time's Arrow Part II").
  • In July 2011, The "Traverse City Lip Dub" was filmed in a single 7m20s long uncut take. During the first song, Malachy is the juggler in the background that can be seen on a street corner.
