Before “Bob Marley: One Love” hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, the musical biopic about the Reggae legend was expected to sing its way to No. 1 on the charts.
But box office projections indicated the Paramount movie — which chronicles Marley’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) rise to fame in the mid-1970s and complex relationship with his wife Rita Marley (Lashana Lynch) up until he died in 1981 — would start slow. It looked like it would collect $30 million and $35 million during the six days between Valentine’s Day on Wednesday and Presidents’ Day on Monday.
Instead, “One Love” smashed those expectations, earning $52 million during the extended holiday stretch. It remained victorious in its sophomore outing (despite the presence of three new releases), raising its domestic total to $71 million. After three weeks in theaters, the film is nearing the $150 million mark globally. It’s an impressive benchmark for a PG-13 drama that’s aimed...

When Grey’s Anatomy first aired in 2005, THR’s review of the pilot, about a group of new surgical interns at a Seattle hospital, complained the show was “missing the ring of authenticity” and pondered, “Can this medical drama be saved? Not without radical surgery.” Today, it’s safe to say this was a misdiagnosis, as the ABC drama heads into its 20th season and is the longest-running scripted primetime show on the network.
THR did praise the actors — “the cast is solid and as diverse as any to be found on the small screen” — and Sandra Oh, who played aspiring physician Cristina Yang, was a standout. Come January 2006, Oh would win the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a drama series and, days later, the SAG Award for best actress in a drama series.

Sandra Oh left Grey's Anatomy after season 10, but her character Cristina Yang could still return to the show. Sandra Oh felt creatively ready to let go of Cristina and pursue other opportunities in her career. Star Trek: Picard brought back beloved characters and introduced new ones. Rafaela Musikar was both controversial and beloved by the fanbase, like any good Star Trek character. Actor Michelle Hurd is also a Force behind-the-scenes working on Sagaftra's negotiating committee
The three-season run of Star Trek: Picard provided an epilogue for, perhaps, the most important captains of the Enterprise. Sure, James T. Kirk originated the Star Trek captain for audiences, but Jean-Luc Picard proved he wasn't the only one who could do it. While the series brought back many legacy Star Trek characters, the best original character from Picard was Raffaela Musikar, played by Michelle Hurd. Raffi, as she was known to Picard, was a hero on-screen, and Hurd is one off-screen, fighting for her fellow actors.
Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard introduced a lot of new characters, including an entirely new crew for the stodgy, retired Starfleet admiral to pal around with.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 5 - "Imposters"Star Trek: Picard has twice now shown a vulnerable Starfleet, which could lead to its potential decline as a trusted galactic power. Starfleet is genuinely held up as an example of humanity's great potential being fulfilled, serving both to defend Federation territory and explore the great unknown of deep space. Starfleet's primary mission is scientific exploration, but it's been called on to defend the Federation on a grand scale several times, particularly during the late 24th century, which ended in Picard season 1.
Starfleet seemed to lose its way a bit in the late-24th century. After enduring serious threats from the Borg and the Dominion, Starfleet was reluctant to save the Romulans from an approaching supernova that would decimate their home planet. When a synth attack on Mars destroyed the Federation rescue armada, Starfleet pulled out of the rescue effort entirely.

That noise you hear is the Best Drama Actress Emmy category emptying out this year. Of last year’s six nominees, only one, “Yellowjackets” star Melanie Lynskey, is back in the running. Reigning champ Zendaya (“Euphoria”) and Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show”) are missing this cycle, while Laura Linney (“Ozark”) and “Killing Eve” duo Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh competed for the final time for their concluded shows. Assuming Lynskey is safely in — she’s in first in the odds — there are five spots up for grabs. Could she have some company this year from her co-stars Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress? If they join Lynskey in the lineup, it’ll mark the first time one show has yielded three nominees in the category in a single year.
Eleven shows have produced two nominees, including “Killing Eve” (Comer and Oh), “Six Feet Under” (Frances Conroy and Rachel Griffiths), “The Sopranos...

In March 2005, ABC premiered a medical procedural as a midseason replacement for “Boston Legal.” It featured no huge names and wasn’t helmed by an auteur writer: “Grey’s Anatomy” came out of nowhere to become a primetime phenomenon. The series about a group of surgical interns learning their craft, falling in and out of love, and working at a hospital that is a hotbed for large-scale crises has been on the air for 19 seasons and is the longest-running drama series ABC has ever aired.
“Grey’s Anatomy” was applauded for its “blind-casting” which generated an organically diverse cast. Whether you loved Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), a hyper-competitive surgeon with no stomach for bullshit; Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), the original class bully with a soft interior; Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), a former lingerie model who feels she has something to prove; George O’Malley (T.R. The Romulan Star Empire is the most insidious enemy of Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, and a small number of Romulans have joined or managed to infiltrate Starfleet. The Romulans were among the first alien adversaries introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series. They gained greater prominence in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. A Romulan named Nero (Eric Bana) was the main villain of J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot movie, and the Romulans were also the big bads of Star Trek: Picard season 1.
The Romulans and their secret police, the Tal Shiar, have attempted many dastardly means to subvert and upend Starfleet, with a surprising amount of success. For Domee Shi, it was incredibly important that the central character of “Turning Red” was a teenager because it was a character that she hadn’t seen in a Disney or Pixar movie. “I was really excited about the opportunity to really showcase and explore the weirdness and specificity of being a teen girl and how everything felt like life or death,” the director tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above).
In addition to having a secret sketchbook, Shi took another crazy part of her teenage years and incorporated it into the movie. “My mom did follow me on my first day of middle school and hid behind a tree with sunglasses on hoping I wouldn’t recognize her. She did not get into a fight with a security guard, thank goodness.”

The South Korean entertainment industry reeled in shock when, in 2018, beloved and very busy supporting actor Oh Dal-su was accused by a woman in the Korean #metoo movement. All the films involving the actor, who is the founding member of the exclusive 100 Million Viewers Club and still the one with the most films in the top 10 highest grossing Korean films with six, that had been completed at the time were shelved and he was dropped from high-profile films that he was to work on, like the “Along With the Gods” sequel, for example. However, he was cleared of all charges after an investigation and inquiry in 2019 and while films that had already been completed before the controversy slowly started to find their way into theatres, Oh took some time off before returning to cinema. It wasn’t an easy way back either, with the actor who was until then used...

Squid Game star Oh Yeong-soo’s sexual misconduct trial is scheduled to start on Friday (3 February).
The 78-year-old performer was charged last year in Suwon, near Seoul in South Korea.
It is alleged that he touched a woman inappropriately in 2017. The unnamed woman reportedly made a complaint against the actor in December 2021, but the case was closed by authorities in April 2022.
The matter was reopened at the victim’s request, according to a report from the Yonhap news agency.
Oh has previously denied the claim.
In a statement shared with Korean broadcaster Jtbc, the actor said: “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake.
“I apologised because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.”
In South Korea, court and police documents concerning sexual crimes are unavailable by law.
Oh has pleaded not guilty to the assault charges.

Sandra Oh starred as Cristina in Grey’s Anatomy for ten seasons but, in a twist, she didn’t technically audition for the role, landing it anyway. When showrunner Shonda Rhimes was casting actors for the pilot episode in 2005, Oh was considered and got the chance to audition, but left before the audition took place. She still ended up getting the role, however, and played the beloved character for a decade.
During a recent interview (via Vanity Fair), Sandra Oh spoke about how she got the part of Cristina. When Rhimes was looking for actors to star in the Grey’s Anatomy pilot in 2005, a pilot episode was all there was. ABC had yet to order more of the show, and even when execs eventually did, it was only a six-episode season. Oh had been in several television films before and was booking roles regularly, but she had yet to have her big breakout role.
