Mobile Suit Gundam is easily the biggest mecha anime franchise out there, with few even potentially overshadowing it. However, one writer believes that a recent streaming move could help put another brand on top.
Ollie Barder's recent piece for Forbes noted the historical significance of both Gundam and the Macross franchise. In the article, the former Disney employee hypothesizes that the latter can actually defeat the former in global popularity. This comes as many of the Macross anime have been added to a popular streaming service, increasing the brand's chances of long-term success.

My Anime List (Mal) is one of the most popular anime websites in the world. The site is a fantastic directory of anime, allowing fans to quickly and easily find out about shows and track their watch lists. On top of this, Mal lets users rate and review anime series, and these scores are then collected and turned into an overall score, making it easy to see the shows that Mal's users love and the ones they hate.
But sometimes, an anime with a low Mal score is worth watching. This may be because the score is unfairly low due to a lack of reviews, because the show does something creative and trailblazing despite its flaws, or simply because the anime is so bad it's good.
