Now that Starz’s Outlander: Blood of my Blood has established Henry and Julia are time-travelers, the entirety of episode three takes place in Scotland in 1714. We get to briefly dip into Julia’s story, and Henry’s seen in a pivotal meeting. But for the most part, this is Ellen’s episode to shine, opening the episode in Brian’s sexy embrace.

The following is a detailed recap of episode three, “School of the Moon,” so there are spoilers ahead!

Brian (Jamie Roy) and Ellen (Harriet Slater) are all hot and heavy for each other, with Ellen pledging to be his forever, and Brian swearing he’d go to the ends of the earth for her. It’s more than just kissing that Ellen longs for and Brian’s eager to satisfy her needs.

“Ye are blood of my blood, and bone of my bone. I give ye my body, that we two might be one. I give ye my spirit, ‘til our life shall be done.”

Remember those words, Outlander faithful? As if we could forget Jamie and Claire’s wedding vows, aka the incantation that formalized the greatest time-travel-assisted love story ever known. Red Jacob MacKenzie’s body is being tended to following his death as Starz’s Outlander: Blood of my Blood episode one begins and Droughtlander ends. The Outlander prequel introduces characters we’ve heard about but don’t really know, up to this point. Outlander: Blood of my Blood charts the love stories responsible for giving us Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp.

The following is a very detailed recap of episode one, “Providence,” which premiered on the Starz app on August 8, 2025 at midnight. Episodes air on Starz linear on Fridays at 8pm Et/Pt.

Outlander may be ending with its eighth season, but new spin-off series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is hoping to keep fans' heart rates soaring for years to come.

The highly anticipated romance prequel was conceived in 2022, officially ordered by Starz in 2023, filmed in 2024, and will be released in 2025. The plot of Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the parents of Outlander's two main lovebirds, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe). The television franchise is based on Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book series, which she wrote over the span of 30 years (1991 to 2021).

Starz’s much-anticipated Outlander prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will premiere this summer. The network dropped a 50-second teaser one day ahead of the season seven finale of Outlander.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will “explore the lives and relationship of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England,” reads Starz’s synopsis. “From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.”

Outlander‘s Matthew B. Roberts serves as showrunner and executive producer.

The world of Outlander is getting bigger later this year.

Starz has released a teaser for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series to the time-traveling historical drama that will focus on the parents of Outlander’s main characters, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). The premium cabler also says the new series will premiere in the summer.

Outlander, meanwhile, closes out season seven Friday and has completed filming on its eighth and final season, though Starz hasn’t set a premiere date for it yet.

Filming has begun in Scotland on Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a show that will focus on the parents of the leads in the main series. Starz previously said the prequel would center on Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) mother and father; the premium cabler now confirms that Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents will also be part of the story.

Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) and Jamie Roy (Lifetime’s Your Boyfriend Is Mine) will play Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who will eventually become Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland. Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) will play Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents, whose story unfolds in World War I-era England.

The prequel series “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” at Starz is rounding out its cast with six new additions.

As previously announced, the series will explore the lives of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).

The new additions are: Sally Messham as Mrs. Fitz, Ellen’s maid at Castle Leoch and Murtagh’s aunt; Terence Rae as Arch Bug, who’s working as a bodyguard to Clan Grant in the prequel; Sadhbh Malin Jocasta Cameron, the youngest child of the MacKenzie clan; Ailsa Davidson as Janet MacKenzie, the fifth MacKenzie sibling; Annabelle Dowler as Lizbeth, Julia’s boss at the War Department; and Harry Eaton as Private Charlton, Henry Beauchamp’s fellow soldier and friend.

Production on the series is currently underway in Scotland. Starz has commissioned 10 episodes for the first season.

Additionally, casting for characters set in the 20th century are Annabelle Dowler will play “Lizbeth,” Julia’s boss at the War Department; and Harry Eaton as “Private Charlton,” Henry Beauchamp’s fellow soldier and friend.

Production has been underway since February on the 10-episode prequel to the Starz hit period drama Outlander in Scotland.

Roku is set to release a live capture of the West End stage show “Heathers: The Musical” as a Roku Original special on the Roku Channel. The special will be available to stream in the U.S. on Friday, Sept. 16.
