But there he was in May, premiering his own 12-minute short in front of an audience of hundreds on the French Riviera, at an event hosted by TikTok. The now-hyped moment took place at an arm-wrestling contest. Interestingly, it happened between David Corenswet and social media influencer Recce Feldman, which ended pretty much as expected. Corenswet easily dominated the social media influencer in the contest. However, it was the new Superman’s reference to a famous dialogue by Andre the Giant that tickled the funny bones of those witnessing the light-hearted entertainment.

TikTok creators got the surprise of their lives during the first week of Cannes Film Festival, when Tom Cruise showed up to give a talk on his new film “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” ahead of its premiere.

The 34 film-centric creators, who TikTok invited to the festival from across the globe, thought they were just coming to the platform’s festival hub at the J.W. Marriott for a content creation workshop — until Cruise came out of nowhere. In partnership with Paramount, Cruise gave a 20-minute fireside chat with creator Reece Feldman (@guywithamoviecamera on the platform) and then hung around for about an hour after to have one-on-one conversations with as many of the TikTokers as possible.

“I’ve never asked permission to create,” Cruise told the room. “Actors and filmmakers and businessmen say, ‘What should I do?’ Do it. Learn it, apply it and don’t wait to know everything.

Feldman is premiering his first narrative short, “Wait, Your Car?,” at a special TikTok event during the fest and Cruise’s “The Final Reckoning” debuts out of competition on Wednesday. Cruise began the conversation by telling Feldman that he got into Cannes at 3:30 a.m. that morning after receiving the BFI Fellowship in London on Monday night, adding that the team had “just finished” “The Final Reckoning.”

Guy with a Movie Camera aka Reece Feldman recently challenged Hans Zimmer to find out what the composer thought of his own scores. To start off the single-elimination tournament, it was Pirates of the Caribbean against The Lion King, for which Zimmer earned his first Oscar. Zimmer easily picked the 1994 Disney classic for personal reasons, also noting it was his first score for an animated film. “Lion King is written for my daughter. I didn’t really wanna do the movie. I didn’t really want to do animation. And then the movie really surprised me because it’s about the father dying and my father died when I was six years old.

Reece Feldman — the viral creator who made a name for himself online with his Guy With a Movie Camera accounts on TikTok and Instagram (totaling nearly 3 million followers) — has long credited a love of film and television for leading him to become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand creators. It was only a matter of time that he lived up to his online name and picked up a camera to direct his first project.

Feldman wrote and directed a short film titled Wait, Your Car? starring Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Ruby Cruz (Bottoms), Minnie Mills (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Noa Fisher (Uncut Gems). The project follows four friends whose relationship is tested when one claims that her car is literally trying to kill her. The short film was produced by Roger Mancusi’s Fair Oaks Entertainment, Timothy Mendonça and Danielle Kampf.

Kyle MacLachlan stopped by Austin, Texas this week for the South By Southwest Film Festival, where he sat down for an interview with SXSW studio host Reece Feldman. The conversation soon turned to one of MacLachlan's most famous collaborators, the late David Lynch, who passed away in January this year. Feldman asked MacLachlan where he thought was the best place for new viewers to start with Lynch's work. "I was curious," he said to MacLachlan, "if you think that there's one totemic work that'll really introduce someone to [Lynch]."

The Hollywood Reporter and TikTok teamed up for an awards weekend celebration and toast to the nominees on Thursday night, welcoming both those up for awards at Sunday night’s Oscars as well as top digital talent.

Nominees Diane Warren (up once again for best song with “The Fire Inside”) and the team behind best animated feature Nimona were joined at the event — held at Ardor within the West Hollywood Edition — by Shameik Moore (who voices Miles Morales in best animated feature nominee Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Jameela Jamil, Oppenheimer actor David Krumholtz, Barbie actor Scott Evans, Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto, Flamin’ Hot stars Jesse Garcia, Annie Gonzalez, Bobby Soto and Fabian Alomar and writer Linda Yvette Chávez, and Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown.

NBCUniversal has launched an initiative designed to turn TikTokers into its next generation of television creators.

The company has launched a Creator Accelerator that features 11 social media creators. The creators, who have over 10M followers on social media, have signed development deals with Universal Studio Group to create original series as part of the program.

Over the next twelve months, the creators will each have their own NBCUniversal content development mentor to help develop both scripted and unscripted content and they will go through a greenlight process that includes help with pitches.
