The Fifth Element star Milla Jovovich reveals how her science rationale helped to create the film's most iconic costume. Directed by Luc Besson, the 1997 sci-fi stars Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas, a cab driver who becomes caught up in a quest to find a great cosmic weapon. Jovovich costars as Leeloo, the titular Fifth Element, who joins forces with Korben to defeat Zorg (Gary Oldman) and an evil force threatening Earth. For some of the film, Leeloo wears an outfit that consists only of white bandages, which, combined with her orange hair, made for an especially memorable character design.
In a recent video for GQ in which she breaks down her most iconic characters, Jovovich reveals that she played a crucial role in the development of Leeloo's bandage costume. Jovovich recalls brainstorming the character's look with Besson before suggesting that there would be a practical and scientific reason for Leeloo...

The video game adaptation genre is one Milla Jovovich is plenty familiar with, and one of her movies is now climbing the streaming charts. After some smaller roles in the late '80s, Jovovich first rose to stardom with her turn as Leeloo in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. The years since have seen her star in everything from Spike Lee's He Got Gameto Ben Stiller's Zoolander and its sequel, as well as David Harbour's Hellboy reboot.
Her most notable project to date, however, remains that of the Resident Evil movie franchise, an adaptation of Capcom's survival horror video game series of the same name. Partnered with her husband, writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich carried the role of heroine Alice through six movies, while also having starred in Anderson's adaptations of The Three Musketeers and George R.R. Martin's In the Lost Lands. Actor Milla Jovovich saw her breakthrough role in 1997, when she played Leeloo in The Fifth Element. Jovovich had taken on supporting roles in movies such as Chaplin and Dazed and Confused, but her bigger role in The Fifth Element made Hollywood aware of who she was. The sci-fi movie was also significant in her life in that it brought together her and director Luc Besson. Besson and Jovovich entered a relationship and married in 1997.
However, Jovovich and Besson's romantic bond was not long for this world. While the pair would go on to make another movie together, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, in 1999, their marriage ended up falling apart. Besson and Jovovich got divorced in 1999, after only two years of marriage. Now, the actor has been married to director Paul W.S. Anderson, who she also met on a set, since 2009. Milla Jovovich recalls how "demoralizing" it was to be a child actor in Hollywood and how this defined her Dazed and Confused role. Jovovich's acting career dates back to the late '80s and early '90s, with roles in projects like Paradise, Married...with Children, Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991), and Chaplin (1992). Released in 1993, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused features a cast stacked with an impressive array of actors, many of whom would go on to become major stars. Jovovich appears in the film as Michelle Burroughs, who plays a guitar at a fire in one memorable sequence.
During a recent interview with GQ in which she looks back at the most iconic roles from her career, Jovovich reveals that her role as Michelle in Dazed and Confused was informed by her "soul-sucking" experience as a child actor. She doesn't get into any specifics in terms of what projects...

The Fifth Element is widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi action films ever made, due in no small part to the amazing performances from stars Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. Their on-screen chemistry was off the charts, and though Willis was already an established actor by 1997, the film helped make Jovovich a global superstar early on in her career. Now, the In the Lost Lands actress has revealed which specific scene it was in Luc Besson's movie that completely changed her life.
Speaking with GQ about her more than three-decade career, Jovovich fondly looked back on The Fifth Element to recall that it was the scene where her character of Leeloo is encased in glass and being hounded by government officials that sent her career on a trajectory she never could have imagined. The reason, she said, is because it really taught her about what it meant to truly be an actress.

Milla Jovovich has hinted that she might reprie her role as Leeloo in an animated spinoff of The Fifth Element. While promoting her upcoming film In the Lost Lands, she mentioned working with filmmaker Luc Besson again and suggested he may already be developing “some sort of spinoff of a bunch of his characters.” This is the first mention of such a project, but it’s already generating excitement among fans.
Jovovich elaborated, saying, “I think Luc is making some sort of spinoff of a bunch of his biggest characters, and Leeloo might be one of them. An animated, cartoon version. I think back in those days, people weren’t thinking about sequels, it was just about making the best movie you could possibly make. For me, Leeloo was one of the most important characters of my young life at that point. It’s what really introduced me to what...

Not every movie released in theaters has success, and some of them end up losing studios millions of dollars. However, some of them end up winning some of their investment back on streaming.
This seems to be the case of Renegades, known as American Renegades in the U.S. The movie was released on Sept. 1, 2017 in Germany, later premiering in France on Aug. 29, 2018. The movie was released exclusively on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S., and now American Renegades has found a new success on Netflix, entering the U.S. charts, per Tudum.

Big bada boom! It’s been roughly 27 years since I saw The Fifth Element nine times in theaters (the most I’d ever seen a single movie at the cinema), and not a year goes by that I don’t revisit Luc Besson’s sci-fi classic at least once. Not only would I put The Fifth Element on a list of my all-time favorite movies, but it would likely crack the Top 20, maybe even the Top 10. Whether you support my enthusiasm for the film or not, there’s no chance of ignoring a quote from Milla Jovovich, who plays Leeloo Dallas in the movie, saying an animated spin-off of The Fifth Element featuring her character could be on the way.

I hope you’re feeling super green today, my fellow meat popsicles, because we’re looking back on Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element! Besson’s comedic and action-packed sci-fi gem is endlessly quotable, uproariously funny, and chock full of outstanding performances from actors like Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker, and the late Ian Holm. Truly bizarre and imaginative, The Fifth Element revolves around a cab driver (Willis) who becomes an integral part of a prophesized event and activation of a cosmic weapon. As the sands of time trickle down, the cab driver leads a band of misfits in their search for salvation as evil encroaches from all sides.
Besson began the construction of The Fifth Element when he was 16 years old. The original concept resembles the film we know and love, though early drafts include name changes, alternate factions, and a world yet to be inspired...

When it comes to sci-fi cinema, few movies are as bizarrely entertaining as The Fifth Element, the 1997 English-language, French-produced science-fiction action film that was co-written by Robert Mark Kamen (The Karate Kid) and Luc Besson and directed by the latter. The movie featured an eclectic cast that included Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas, Milla Jovovich as Leeloo, Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod, and Gary Oldman as Jean-Baptiste Zorg.
