Another day, another little known action movie is blowing up on the streaming charts. This time, Prime Video is playing host to Dominique, an explosive and well-reviewed, female-led action movie that will appeal to fans of Atomic Blonde, Hanna, and the recent Netflix hit, Canary Black.
Clocking it at a lean 94 minutes, Dominique is a movie that doesn’t outstay its welcome, instead delivering a relentless, action-packed feature that mostly delivers on its promises and proved to be pleasing for the majority of critics and audiences. The film was given a limited theatrical release back in October 2024, but found itself buried by its arrival on the same weekend as the release of 23 other movies, including the comedy Saturday Night, and the box office-slaying Terrifier 3. The film was released on VOD without much fanfare on the same day.

Michael S. Ojeda’s filmography boasts three major features, including the recently released action flick Dominique, and all three of them deal with an exceptionally strong female lead going down a violent path to seek revenge against the men who have wronged them. Unlike Ojeda’s last two entries, namely Avenged and The Russian Bride, which had certain intrigue and complexity in their narratives, Dominique is a simplistic, no-nonsense, fast-paced action spectacle that doesn’t allow viewers a chance to settle down. Actor Oksana Orlan, who played the lead role in Ojeda’s previous feature, returns as the titular mercenary/assassin, whose bloody quest for vengeance against corrupt police forces and cartels in a small South American town makes for an entertaining watch.

Oksana Orlan, a statuesque fashion model turned actress, writer, and producer, will kick your ass and break a foot doing it in Dominique, an absolutely ferocious action movie with stunning plot twists. The film initially seems like another mindless and forgettable VOD entry we've seen countless times. That expectation changes dramatically when a razor-sharp first act goes in a truly shocking direction. Every character is fair game once ruthless and sadistic baddies are unleashed. Steel yourself for shock, awe, and heartbreak. There are no sacred cows or boundaries here.
In Colombia's La Guajira desert, cackling goons from the vicious De La Cruz cartel race towards their latest conquest in a red Jeep. They've shot down a plane presumed to belong to a rival drug gang. Hector (David M Sandoval Jr.) cautiously approaches the wreckage. The front of the plane is still intact. He opens the door and motions his men...

"You can't save this family. No matter how good you are..." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller being dumped out titled Dominique, made by a filmmaker named Michael S. Ojeda. You've likely never seen or heard of any of his other films. This is made in collaboration with Ukrainian-American actress / model Oksana Orlan, who also writes and produces with the director. Orlan stars as Dominique – a well-trained assassin who flees from her troubled past attempting to begin a new life in South America. However, she soon finds herself in a town plagued with violence and corruption. Facing brutal attacks from the police and mafia, Dominique must decide whether to protect herself or an innocent family that has taken her in. Such an original plot. The cast includes Jose Conejo Martin, Sebastian Carvajal, Maria Del Rosario, Alanna De La Rossa, Gustavo Angarita, and Maurice Compte. This looks so bad.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
My hunch about the higher production values for The Amityville Terror (2016) wound up being true, and whether it’s the slightly more polished look or a cast of professional actors, the sixteenth film in the “franchise” is easily the best in quite some time.
That’s grading on a scale since there are still some pretty glaring issues in the film, but, overall, director Michael Angelo has delivered a solidly entertaining Dtv film with soft callbacks to other franchise entries.
After a cold open that’s revealed to be a bracketing storyline, Amanda Barton’s screenplay quickly establishes a familiar foundation: a troubled family moves into a suspiciously cheap house on Amity Lane and the bad energy eventually manifests in murderous behavior.

Avenged (2013) Review
Director: Michael S. Ojeda
Writers: Michael S. Ojeda, Deon van Rooyen (additional dialogue)
Stars: Amanda Adrienne, Tom Ardavany, Ronnie Gene Blevins
This is how it is: An attractive and deaf woman by the name of Zoe (Amanda Adrienne) is on a road trip to her boyfriend when she comes across a bunch of local yokels tormenting some Native Americans. Zoe does the valiant thing in trying to save their lives and in turn, gets captured and taken back to the local’s shack where she is repeatedly brutalized.
Yeah, it certainly sounds like your typical revenge horror-thriller, only it isn’t: Avenged takes a strange turn when our heroine is brutally killed, only to be brought back to life a few days later (expertly edited here to show the passage of time, by the way) by a local witch-doctor. Relentlessly pursuing your long sought-after dreams, no matter what physical and emotional challenges you may have to overcome in order to achieve those goals, is an admirable trait people possess as they seek fulfillment in their lives. Filmmaker Michael Ojeda admirably embraced the endurance of working multiple jobs on the set of his new action horror drama, ‘Avenged,’ including being the writer, director, cinematographer and editor, to enthrallingly create the alluring female protagonist for the film that he always imagined. In the process, the lead character grippingly overcame her despairs to admirably prove that not matter what confrontations people are forced to contend with, having unquestionable faith in their abilities [ Read More ]

Writer-director Michael S. Ojeda’s Avenged (formerly known as Savaged) is a feast of vengeance and he likes it that way. It takes the tried-and-true rape/revenge film and mixes it with the white-man scalping genre of Redsploitation (Native American revenge). The combination makes for one kinetically brutal thriller filled with heaps of graphic violence and sincere heart. Literally, a heart […]...

Who knows why it took so long for Michael S. Ojeda’s spiritual remake of The Crow to hit wider audiences, but after two long years of festival screenings and showcases, Avenged (formerly Savaged) has become a valuable example of perseverance and gritty determination. It’s not often that I’m completely taken aback by visual brutality, but credit Ojeda with knocking each redemptive slaughter out of the park when it comes to confident, 80s-style effects work. You’ve got to admire a filmmaker who relies on good ol’ fashioned practical gooeyness whenever his violent vixen screams her wicked war cry, and Avenged showcases some of the most creative bodily chaos I’ve seen in a good while. It’s I Spit On Your Grave with a Native American twist – talk about reparations!

Revenge films are one of the gold standard sub-genres in horror, especially ones with female protagonist committing all manner of gruesome violence against the people, usually men, which have assaulted her. Director Michael S. Ojeda crafts his version a little different this time with a supernatural twist that involves the possession of a deaf, and left for dead, woman by the spirit of a Native American warrior who is seeking revenge. Ojeda doesn’t try to reinvent the genre, but instead makes a vicious and inventive film that is a recent standout in the over-saturated category.

If you only judged by the first 25 minutes of the colorfully harsh new indie horror movie Savaged, you'd probably be tempted to dismiss it as yet another effectively ugly, bleak, and unpleasant "rape / revenge" movie -- but that'd be a pretty stupid thing to do. Who the hell judges a whole film on the first 25 minutes?
As a person who has a pretty short attention span for movies that wallow in rape and degradation, I was pleased to notice that Michael S. Ojeda's Savaged had more on its mind than just sexual abuse. Sure, the film starts out much like films called I Spit On Your Grave or The Last House on the Left (a pretty young woman is brutally attacked by a gang of scummy backwoods hicks), and, yes, it ends Act I with a quick, disturbing rape scene, but even at the peak of its gruesomeness, there's...

Do you need another rape/revenge flick in your life? How about one that incorporates all sorts of supernatural elements? If you answered yes to either of these cinematic inquiries, then you might want to check out director Michael S. Ojeda’s “Savaged.” Instead of getting back at the violators on her own, this particular heroine gets a little assistance from a Native American shaman with a host of otherworldly abilities. Outside of this interesting addition, “Savaged” appears to follow the same well-worn formula perpetrated by the likes of “I Spit on Your Grave” and its ilk. Check out the official synopsis: While travelling across country, Zoe, a lovely deaf mute woman, stumbles on a horrific crime – a gang of rednecks slaughtering two Native American boys.
