Kevin McHale addressed those rumors about costars Lea Michele and Naya Rivera feuding on the set of Glee.
If you were unaware, there were rumors that the actresses, who played Rachel Berry and Santana Lopez, respectively, had bad blood on the set of the hit television show. Naya even addressed the rumors in 2019.
During a recent episode of his And That’s What You Really Missed podcast with Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin revisited an episode where Santana and Rachel feuded over the spotlight. He referred to the plot as “self-referential” and had more to say about the situation.

It was impossible to predict just how big of a show Glee would become when it was first created. However, that didn’t stop a lot of stars from auditioning for the show!
The mega-popular musical series debuted 15 years ago, introducing us to the New Directions – a group of plucky underdogs who won hearts with their musical abilities and tight bond.
However, the lineup of the show choir could have looked very different. In the years since Glee debuted, we’ve learned that a slew of actors auditioned for the show and didn’t get cast.
Some cast members even auditioned for different parts before they were placed in the perfect role.
For instance, many actors who eventually joined the show did so after reading to play football star turned choir champion Finn Hudson, a role that ultimately went to Cory Monteith. Several popular actresses also auditioned to play the...

Sadly, there is a significant number of the Glee cast who have passed away, either from causes later in life or from more tragic circumstances. Glee premiered in May 2009 and ushered in an era of Ryan Murphy TV shows that, collectively, may still not rival the cultural influence of his original hit series about a glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School. Though American Horror Story may now be more well-known, and American Crime Story more critically acclaimed, Glee, particularly the first season, was a phenomenon.
Glee utilized a fantastic ensemble cast of talented actors and singers who drove the tongue-in-cheek comedy of the teen show. However, they're better known for belting out Glee's incredible covers of songs. Sheldon Cooper comes across as cruel when he tricks Leonard into wearing an itchy sweater. Rachel Berry leaves behind her life-long Broadway dreams for a TV show that fails. Ted Mosby's romantic nature is undermined by the reveal of who his story is really about.
Several popular TV shows betrayed a main character when that character is depicted doing something that goes against everything the audience knows about them. The character does something that conflicts with one of their core values, that undermines their arc up until that point, or completely changes their personality. Consistent characterizations are key to successful shows, difficult though it may be to maintain them over many seasons or in the face of actors wishing to leave the show.

Ryan Murphy first offered Glee to Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele, but Groff turned it down.
“I really felt like I didn’t want to sign on to be a singing teenager again for another seven years,” Groff told Vanity Fair this week. At the time, he was 23 and had just finished a two-year run of playing a teenager in Broadway’s Spring Awakening with Michele.
“Ryan Murphy had told Lea Michele and I that he had written this show Glee for the two of us, and would we be interested in doing that?” Groff recalled, saying he ultimately said no.
“I really wanted to act. I love singing but doing that felt like more of the same as opposed to something that would be an opportunity for artistic growth,” he said. “And that next year, I did three off-Broadway plays.”
Groff said he has no regrets about the choice he made.

I’m going to tell you something that will instantly rattle a millennial body to its core: “Glee,” the Fox musical dramedy that became a phenomenon before becoming a dark cultural tale, premiered 15 years ago, on May 19, 2009.
To make you feel slightly better about the passage of time, that date is a bit of a cheat: Because Fox suspected it had an honest-to-goodness hit on its hands, the network premiered the first episode after the “American Idol” Season 8 finale in May, before beginning the full season a few months later in September.
Still, May 19 was the day the world first was re-reminded of the wonder of “Don’t Stop Believin,’” witnessed the instantly iconic combo of cringe and charisma that was Rachel Berry/Lea Michele, and considered the shocking declaration that someone could be both an athlete and a singer.
If you aren’t a recovering Gleek, one of the...

With the limitation of taking place at a high school, the musical comedy, Glee, had to constantly introduce new cast members to fill out McKinley High School's glee club. With Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and several other Og glee club members leaving the McKinley halls upon graduation in Season 3, new talents were encouraged to join the team and continue its winning streak in show choir competitions. Five characters managed to become part of the group by the start of Glee Season 4, but only one left a mark on the show despite her short-lived presence. Marley Rose, played by Melissa Benoist, had one of the most angelic vocals of the bunch, and, unlike other characters in the show, she wasn't interested in competing for attention. Her talent and passion for singing always transpired in her music numbers, and her kindness was admirable amid all the high school drama. Despite Marley not...

The young and talented cast of Glee featured some of the brightest rising stars on the scene when the musical series debuted in 2009.

Some TV characters destroy their own reputation with one unforgivable crime, no matter how beloved they were before. Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer sexually assaulted Buffy and his reputation plummeted. Rachel Berry in Glee sends another talented singer to a crack house out of jealousy, showing her unethical behavior and blurring the lines of morality. Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones undergoes a drastic personality shift and becomes the Mad Queen, damaging her character and the overall storyline.

What is it about a woman in charge that brings out the critics?
No matter the genre, you can always find a female lead character that gets a strong negative audience response. Call it a hot take, but we think a lot of those women deserved better than the treatment they got.
Let's be real; some of these characters are children. How terrible could they really be?
These unpopular ladies definitely deserved better from fans, and we're prepared to die on that hill.
Here's why we'll stan these women 'til the end, even if we're the only ones.
Maggie Pierce: Grey's Anatomy
The condemnation thrown at Maggie Pierce was always over the top, especially considering she's a young, gifted, Black surgeon with a complicated past whose unrelenting optimism should have charmed viewers.
It's totally understandable that folks didn't love the Ellis-Richard-love-child storyline she brought with her to Grey's Anatomy, but...

Lea Michele‘s Rachel Berry from Glee used to be at number 12, but now she’s much higher on the list due to people finding the voting feature.
So, what’s the ranking...

Some main characters in TV shows can fall short, overshadowed by flaws or inadequacies that make them less suitable as the lead. The success of a show often hinges on the strength of its central character, but sometimes supporting cast or even villains shine brighter. Flawed main characters can disrupt the camaraderie and overall success of a show, highlighting the importance of a compelling protagonist.
When it comes to television shows, the main character often takes center stage — but sometimes, the protagonist falls short, leaving viewers eager to see more of other characters instead. Whether it's due to poorly developed character arcs, insufferable personality traits, or a series of questionable decisions, some main characters end up as the weakest link in otherwise promising TV shows. Such scenarios highlight the significant role main characters play in determining a show's overall success, as well as how a single misstep can reshape the perspective.

Some TV betrayals were not given enough time to be properly addressed and forgiven, even in the best TV shows of all time. The characters involved in betrayals must be of sound mind, making their choice to betray friends and family more potent and the lack of responsibility more obvious. Even the best TV characters are not immune to the consequences of their betrayals, and they should be held accountable for their actions.
Given how life is full of contradictions, it can feel easier to brush over the divisive actions of characters, but there are some betrayals on TV that were passed over too quickly. When two characters have such a strong bond, the willingness to forgive is also important, especially when it seems like those characters have always been solid. However, there are some mistakes that seem too gargantuan to move on from, and even if they can be forgiven,...

High school is always complicated, but the lives of high schoolers on TV are anything but dull. When it comes to teen shows, drama and shocking twists are to be expected. Teen shows always delivered shocking twists and turns, whether it was break-ups, secret siblings, or reveals of mysterious killers. From Pretty Little Liars' big reveals to Riverdale's magic system, teen TV was always full of shocking events that kept audiences coming back for more. These shows never fail to deliver unexpected jaw-dropping moments, often to mixed reactions.

Update, with additional box office figures: Lea Michele treated the final-night audience of Broadway’s Funny Girl to an extra song Sunday, performing “My Man,” popularized by Fanny Brice in 1921 but not included in the musical’s original score.
Michele performed the song – omitting, as did Barbra Streisand in the 1968 film version, the infamous “he beats me too” introductory verse used by Brice and Billie Holiday – after Sunday’s curtain call. (Watch it below.)
After thanking the audience, cast and crew profusely, Michele said, “If you know me then you will know that this is the hardest song I’ve ever sung and I want to give it to you” just before launching into “My Man.”
Although she didn’t explain the “hardest song” reference, Glee fans will remember that Michele’s character Rachel Berry sang the song in a 2011 episode over a montage of the actor Cory Monteith’s Finn character.

Michele earned a standing ovation — by some accounts, her fifth of the afternoon — when she closed Sunday’s show with a surprise performance of “My Man,” the Barbra Streisand cover that was not part of the original Broadway production nor the revival, but was included in the 1968 film.

Glee cast members, including Heather Morris, recently reunited for strikes and paid tribute to the late Naya Rivera. Morris featured a modified Glee quote on her sign at the strike, honoring Rivera's character Santana Lopez. The Glee cast has remained supportive of each other and continues to celebrate the show's impact and iconic moments, even years after its conclusion.
The stars behind Lima, Ohio's award-winning show choir have reunited, as the Glee cast recently gathered for SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Airing from 2009 to 2015, Glee was one of Fox Network's most popular shows and saw stars such as Lea Michele (Rachel Berry), Heather Morris (Brittany S. While many of the Glee alumni held posters playing off classic Glee quotes and screen grabs, Heather Morris' sign stood out in particular.

Idina Menzel wasn't prepared to be an onscreen mom. In an Aug. 12 interview with Stellar magazine, published in the New York Post, the Broadway star recalled how it felt to take on the role of Lea Michele's mom on "Glee" when she was only 38 years old. "You know, you're worried you're not going to work again, and then people hire you to be someone's mother when you probably should be their older sister," she said of her iconic character, Shelby Corcoran. In actuality, Menzel is only 15 years older than Michele and had only just given birth to her first child when she accepted the job.
"I had my son Walker, and then three months later, I got the call and so I said 'yes,'" she said, adding that she had trouble fitting into her costumes because she was still breastfeeding. "It just wasn't great for the ego,...

Glee may have ended its six season run back in 2014, but the hit Fox show seemingly hasn't left the headlines thanks to countless members of the cast recalling their negative experiences during production. The latest Glee alum to speak out about their time on the show is Broadway legend Idina Menzel, who appeared on the show as Shelby Corcoran, estranged mother to Lea Michele's Rachel Berry, saying the experience "wasn't great for the ego." The actor was 38 at the time of her first appearance back in 2010, only fifteen years older than Michele, who was 23.

In a pre-“Frozen” world, future Elsa voice Idina Menzel’s most high-profile role was arguably that of mother to Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) on “Glee.” But Menzel reportedly told Stellar Magazine that the role “wasn’t great for the ego.”
Menzel became a breakout Broadway musical star first for her role as Maureen in “Rent” in 1996. She went on to even greater success playing Elphaba in 2003’s “Wicked,” taking home a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
Three months after having her first child in September 2009 with her then-husband, fellow actor Taye Diggs, Menzel was cast as the mother of “Glee’s” Rachel Berry. While Michele was playing a teen, she was actually in her early 20s at the time — the real-life age difference with Menzel was just 15 years.

Irksome characters cover the television landscape and the following ten are so terrible they ruined a chunk of what was a great series or at least lowered the show's quality exponentially. Typically, TV showrunners will introduce a brand-new character midway through a series or during the series finale, and often the character is unintentionally annoying and doesn't connect favorably with viewers. In at least three instances, the most annoying character, due much to the writers' design, was part of the cast from the onset of the series.
Purposely creating a character who is irritating takes a risk in hopes that audiences will continue to watch the character's antics or turn it off out of frustration. Series creators can keep viewers hooked with an aggravating personality, however, sometimes the writers exaggerate the character's traits over several seasons to where it becomes insufferable to watch. New characters are often created to help...

There are many TV characters audiences love to hate and a show is not complete without them. TV shows tend to have a villainous character that are meant to be hated but sometimes a character is just hated by all audience members regardless of what they do. Whether it is annoying behavior, bad decisions, or their interactions with other characters, some TV characters become worse over time.
TV shows such as Modern Family and Friends cause characters to decline due to the sheer number of seasons and episodes. Successful TV shows can easily run too long and diminish character development or include random storylines that can completely change the audience’s perspective on a character. Even popular TV shows such as The Office US ran on too long and loved characters like Jim and Pam were slated for behaving in ways they would not in earlier episodes. However, some TV...

Actress and singer Lea Michele has taken to Instagram to remember her Glee co-star Cory Monteith, who passed away, at age 31, on this day 10 years ago.
“Hey you. 10 years,” Michele started her note. “It feels like only yesterday that you were here and yet a million years ago all at the same time. I hold all of our memories in my heart where they will stay safe and never forgotten.”

Michele in the latter line was referencing Taylor Hawkins, the famed drummer known for his work with the Grammy-winning rock band Foo Fighters, who died unexpectedly while on tour in Bogotá, Colombia on March 25, 2022. Hawkins was 50, and while no official cause of death has yet been disclosed,...

The burnout associated with gifted kid syndrome — the crushing realization that, after constant praise and validation as a child, you’re not as special as everybody told you that you were — has become a self-diagnosed internet ailment of the most annoying people you know, determined to blame their obnoxious high standards on their parents and teachers. In the early 2000s, musical movies like High School Musical began gaining traction with young viewers, spurring the creation of even more on-screen musicals, perhaps even including Ryan Murphy's Glee. Starting in 2009 and running for six seasons, Glee followed a group of eccentric high schoolers as they joined their school's acapella group and learned to accept and understand each other despite their differences. The show was best known for its impressive musical numbers and themed episodes where certain musical artists or shows were honored from Britney Spears to Grease.
Three years before Glee became a global phenomenon, a strikingly similar movie musical, High School Musical, first captured the attention of young audiences. The Ryan Murphy classic Glee ran for six seasons and over time, introduced countless greats in music, theater, and Hollywood, however, the show still managed to forget one iconic figure: Bette Midler. Glee followed the quirky yet talented glee club, New Directions, at middle-of-nowhere McKinley High School. The series emphasized themes of inclusion, diversity, and belonging, and also included endless iconic, over-the-top musical numbers performed by the cast in each episode.
Over the years, Glee had various celebrity guest appearances on the show. Some highlights include Gwenyth Paltrow, Kristen Chenoweth, John Stamos, Idina Menzel, and Neil Patrick Harris. The series also dedicated entire episodes to significant musical influences, such as Britney Spears. When it came to musical greats such as Better Midler, it was no question that the Glee would want to bring them on board, however with Midler, the cameo simply didn't happen, despite both parties being in agreement.

Lea Michele has reflected on allegations she created a toxic workplace environment on the set of Glee.
In 2020, Michele – who played Rachel Berry in Ryan Murphy’s musical comedy series – was accused of making her co-star Samantha Ware’s time on the show a “living hell”. Ware said she was on the receiving end of “traumatic microagressions” from the actor, who allegedly once threatened to “s*** in my wig” in front of her castmates, causing Ware to question a future career in the industry.
This led to a number of other cast members speaking out about Michele’s behaviour on set, for which she later apologised and noted how she wanted to “keep working to better [herself] and take responsibility for [her] actions”.
Speaking to playwright Jeremy O Harris for Interview magazine, Michele was asked whether she had turned back to a career on the stage to “rectify” the way she behaved on set.

Speaking to playwright Jeremy O Harris for Interview magazine, Michele was asked whether she had turned back to a career on the stage to “rectify” the way she behaved on set.

If there's a thing that remained consistent throughout all six seasons of Glee, even when the writing and overall quality of the show declined, it's the singing. The entire cast was truly talented beyond words, and they all consistently delivered when performing their covers.
The cast put out three Christmas albums, practically covering every classic holiday tune and putting the classic Glee spin on them. Not all of them made it to the actual show, but they all contributed to the success of their respective albums. And as the cast changed with every new season, new voices got to be showcased on each album, perfectly representing the diversity and inclusivity Glee always strived to showcase.

Amber Riley has appeared in an interview in which she was grilled about her former Glee co-star Lea Michele’s views on race.
Michele, who played Rachel Berry on the US series, found herself at the centre of a race row when Samantha Ware (Jane Hayward) claimed she made her life a “living hell” due to “traumatic microaggressions” on set.
Ware’s allegation came in response to Michele’s post in support of Black Lives Matter following the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
Riley, when pressed on whether she believed Michele was racially insensitive during her time on the series, said at the time in an Instagram video: “I don’t give a s***. People are out here dying, being murdered by police.”
She added that while the Glee set was “not the most comfortable environment”, she wasn’t “going to say that Lea Michele is racist”.
Now, during an appearance on Showtime’s Ziwe,...

A new series titled "The Price of Glee" will soon return to the halls of William McKinley High School - though things will look a bit different this time around. A forthcoming docuseries from Discovery+ and Ample Entertainment will explore the various tragedies and controversies that have plagued Ryan Murphy's smash hit "Glee," both while it aired from 2009 to 2015 and in the years since.
"In May 2009, 10 young actors made their TV debut on 'Glee.' By 2020, all of them would be famous, and three would be dead," the trailer, which dropped on Dec. 8, states.
Through the years, the "Glee" cast have encountered misfortune after misfortune. In 2013, while the show was still airing, Cory Monteith - who played lovable jock Finn Hudson and who was also Lea Michele's on- and offscreen boyfriend - died of an accidental heroin overdose. Then Mark Salling, who played Noah "Puck" Puckerman, was...
