Vishal Solanki was born in Mumbai, India. He is a graduate of the prestigious Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art in Mumbai where he studied painting, commercial design and photography.

While studying, Vishal worked as apprentice to acclaimed veteran Indian Cinematographer Binod Pradhan, and as assistant to cinematographer Kartik Vijay, on Taxi No. 9211. Upon graduation Vishal won five awards, including, the State Government Bronze Metal for Best Work; the CAG Bronze Award for best art direction; and, the John Walter Thompson 'Big Idea of the Year' Award. He continued as a fashion and glamor still photographer, and also shot various advertising campaigns for ad agencies in Mumbai. Not satisfied by still images, Vishal moved to the United States in order to study Cinematography and Directing at the Los Angeles Film School. While at L.A. Film School, Vishal gained valuable experience working with digital, 35mm, and super 16mm film formats.

Since graduating from L.A. Film School with honors in both Cinematography and Directing, Vishal has consistently worked as a professional cinematographer in all formats and genres. His most recent documentary and directorial debut Caffeinated, premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and is making its way to theaters in North America soon, followed by an international release. Vishal has also worked at the Santa Monica College Film Program as a cinematography supervisor, and has mentored students from various film schools in America and spends his time between Los Angeles, Berlin and Mumbai.
