The International Film Festival of India (Iffi) is rolling out an extensive tribute program to honor the 100th birth anniversaries of four Indian cinema legends: actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, director Tapan Sinha, Telugu cinema star Akkineni Nageswara Rao (Anr), and singer Mohammed Rafi.

The festival’s 55th edition will present restored versions of signature films from these artists, including Kapoor’s “Awaara,” Sinha’s “Harmonium,” Anr’s “Devadasu,” and “Hum Dono” featuring Rafi’s vocals. The National Film Development Corporation and National Film Archive of India have undertaken the restoration work to bring these classics back to their original visual quality.

Meanwhile, a team of government officials and negotiators desperately worked behind the scenes on the ground to facilitate the plane’s safe landing and passengers’ release. Through this high-stakes drama, Sinha explores the crisis from start to finish through multiple moving parts.

For six gripping and flab-free episodes of Anubhav Sinha’s revisitation of the Kandahar hijacking, I forgot to breathe. Yes, it is that engaging. So for those who may want to ask, ‘Why another series on the oft-visited Kandahar hijack episode?’ the answer is elementary: no matter how many times you visit a shameful chapter of history, for example the holocaust, you come up with a new perspective on what precipitates a historic mess up of this magnitude.

In this case, the hijacked plane had landed for emergency fuelling in Amritsar. The hijackers could have been nabbed at this point in the crisis. Redtapism blew our chances. As it often does.

Anubhav Sinha doesn’t make the same mistake. He reconstructs the entire episode with a vigour that repudiates any technical error. Sinha is in his element here, mixing the authenticity of documentation with the rigours of fictionalization. The end-result is steady ….and heady.

“This is the world’s first reported case of Rhodoturula infection (Rhodotorula is a genus of pigmented yeasts), while the Cmv Meningitis is the second such reported case in the world as per the available medical records,” doctors at the Fortis Hospital, Noida, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha will be seen essaying the role of a cop in the upcoming streaming crime drama series ‘Dahaad’, her look from the series was unveiled on Thursday. The show will mark the digital debut of Sinha and has been created by filmmakers Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar.

‘Dahaad’, which earlier premiered at The Berlinale International Film Festival and was the first Indian series to achieve the feat, is set to drop on May 12, 2023. The series is an 8-part crime drama that follows Sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati (played by Sonakshi) and her colleagues in a small town police station.

It all starts when a series of women are mysteriously found dead in public bathrooms. At first, the deaths appear to be clear-cut suicides but as the cases unravel, Anjali begins to suspect that a serial killer is on the loose.

The authorities have registered 20 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. Moreover, the side effects of corona are also appearing in the hospitals apart from the threat of the H3N2 influenza virus.

On Friday, Bihar registered its first casualty this year due to Covid infection in Gaya district. The 70-year-old patient who suffered from breathing problems was admitted to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical Gaya three days ago, and died on Friday night. For my time and attention, Anubhav Sinha is the finest contemporary filmmaker of Hindi cinema. He makes the films that he wants to. Whether the audience participates in his compelling creative process(Mulk, Article 15) or not(Anek) Anubhav is fine with it.

Bheed comes too close to the actual trauma of the Lockdown for comfort. Assuredly this masterpiece on a real palpable immediate chunk of history makes us uncomfortable, as cinema was always supposed to.

But then we decided we wanted our cinema to be a song-and-dance nautanki. Anubhav Sinha, God bless his fearless soul, decided with Mulk to move away from the bheed, no pun intended. Mumbai, March 10 (Ians) The trailer of the upcoming film ‘Bheed’, which stars an ensemble cast, was unveiled on Friday.

The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha of ‘Article 15’ fame, is completely in monochrome and tells the story from India’s recent history of the first nationwide lockdown after Covid-19 was recognised as a health emergency in 2020 and how the migrant workers were ill treated by the authorities as they walked miles for days together at a stretch to reach their homes.

The trailer, which is under 3 minutes in length, starts off with a voice-over of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s famous address to the nation wherein he called for a complete nationwide lockdown, which became the harshest lockdown in the entire world. The corresponding imagery shows migrant workers struggling and getting their hands on whatever available resources they could arrange as they brave police brutality and humiliating treatment by the authorities in their own homeland.

Noida, March 2 (Ians) In a heart-warming moment, a team of doctors at Jaypee Hospital on Thursday announced they have successfully transplanted a kidney in a five-year-old girl, their first transplant for a young patient at such age.

The girl, suffering from a rare chronic kidney disease (Ckd) and hypertension, received the kidney from her mother who volunteered to be a donor and on evaluation, she was found to be fit.

With this, the Delhi-ncr hospital has successfully performed kidney transplanted in 11 pediatric patients, from more than 835 kidney transplants to date.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (Ians) The India 5G smartphone market is expected to expand by more than 70 per cent (on-year) by the end of CY2023, a report said on Tuesday.

The India smartphone market recorded more than 13 times growth in its 5G shipments from the year of its initial introduction in 2020.

“From a mere 4 per cent in CY2020 to a potential more than 45 per cent market share in CY2023, 5G smartphones have definitely come a long way,” said Menka Kumari, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (Iig), CyberMedia Research (Cmr).

In CY2022, close to 100 5G smartphones were launched in the India market.

“In 2023, we anticipate close to 75 per cent of the new smartphones to be introduced in the India market to be 5G-capable,” she added.

Samsung, OnePlus and Vivo led the India market in 5G smartphone shipments in CY2022.

In the 5G Value for Money price segment, Xiaomi and realme were the major contributors.
