Not Momo or Okarun, ‘Dandadan’ Nailed Character Development With the Most Hated Character
Image
Dandadan is crazy. We get to see ghosts, aliens, and it really is this perfect blend of funny and emotionally real that just has you hooked. And then we have the dynamic duo, Momo and Okarun. No doubt, they are stars, and they’re definitely badasses when it comes to fighting yokai.

But there is another character who enters the picture and completely steals the show with her own epic redemption arc. She starts out so awful, but if you hang on for a while, she has you totally cheering for her!

Yes, we are talking about Aira Shiratori, the character who you probably wanna boo off stage at the beginning. Her journey from a horrible, selfish diva to a humble hero, or at least a better person, just wins our hearts. So sorry, Momo and Okarun, but Aira is our best character development winner!

From bratty bully to real...

10 Chaotic Dandadan Moments That Fans Can't Stop Talking About
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 1 of Dandadan.

The anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan brought some of the most hilarious and unhinged scenes since the airing of the cult classic, Flcl. What started as a fun venture between two teenagers aiming to prove the existence of aliens and ghosts turned into a series full of testicle jokes, suggestive content, and comically absurd moments that made Dandadan the no. 1 anime of Fall 2024.

Dandadan balances humor, drama, and high-stakes action in an unpredictable ride that will give any viewer an experience that is both equal parts enjoyable and weirdly uncomfortable. There is at least one unforgettable moment in every episode, each one carrying a wave of chaos and controversy big enough that Dandadan could ride it all the way to its second season.

Dandadan Episode 12 Goes Nuts in the Anime Finale of the Season
Image
Dandadan's first season was a banger, with only one episode falling somewhat short when looking at the season as a whole. The anime's penultimate episode didn't deliver at the standard that Dandadan set, but that's not really saying much considering the highly rated episodes. Episode 11 felt very much like a transitional episode and introduced too many things at the same time. While some of those elements paid off in the finale, others felt inconsequential.

Episode 12 "Let's Go to the Cursed House" was the perfect season finale and showcased why Dandadan's been such a success. From the chaotic comedic moments, to the downright creepy new enemies, and a mystery surrounding the anime's newest character, the episode builds towards a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that leaves many lives in the balance.

Dandadan: Okarun’s Surge in Popularity Might Be Betraying What Yukinobu Tatsu Set Out to Achieve
Image
Dandadan is a visual masterpiece in every sense. Not only does this series capture the essence of shonen in its unique way, but also it ties well with the main characters Momo and Okarun. Besides the riveting storyline, the manga exemplifies its unconventional nature.

From side characters to legends, Yukinobu Tatsu is a true master at fleshing out details. His take on the occult is revolutionary for the shonen genre as a whole. However, this was nothing less of an arduous task.

The series’ growing popularity influences the characters as well. This ties well with Okarun’s surge in fame and notoriety in the series. It is a breakaway from his characters’ stereotyping as an otaku.

Moreover, it inversely affects one of the key features of the series which makes it different from other manga. The character’s popularity,...

Dandadan’s First Ever Popularity Poll Is Unsurprisingly Taking the Attention From the Series’ Main Character
Image
Dandadan, the supernatural action-comedy series by Yukinobu Tatsu, has become a fan favorite. Thanks to its eccentric storytelling with a mix of occult, romance, and dynamic characters, the series rose to the top of the current anime scene.

Okarun and Momo | Credit: Science Saru

However, its first-ever popularity poll has introduced an interesting dynamic-Momo Ayase, the protagonist, has been overshadowed by Okarun, whose evolution, personality, and story have captivated readers. However, not many can say this was a shocker. While Momo is undoubtedly the narrative’s backbone, with her leading the group, Okarun’s relatable personality and interesting growth have made him the fan-favorite of the series.

Okarun’s transformation from a socially awkward, timid, weak individual into a confident and formidable fighter has resonated deeply with fans. Not to mention, a major chunk of the plot revolves around Okarun and his family jewels.

Okarun’s story and personality are...

Aside from absurd comedy, intense action sequences, and heartfelt moments, Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan is also renowned for its dynamic cast of characters. It’s not just Momo and Okarun, each of the characters of this series has their own charm and popularity; from Aira, Turbo Granny, and Seiko to the villains being introduced in each episode. However, the anime adaptation of Dandadan established a stable fan following for two of the most unexpected characters: Miko and Muko.

Although Miko and Muko have been in Dandadan since the beginning, their relatively small roles have resulted in them being overshadowed and forgotten most of the time, or we thought so. However, their recent popularity within the fandom has led to a wave of demands for Yukinobu Tatsu to expand their roles in the manga, potentially altering...

Image
The following contains spoilers for Dandadan Season 1, Episode 6, "A Dangerous Woman Arrives," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Dandadan's popularity is soaring high with each passing episode, and, at this point, it looks unstoppable. With the story leapfrogging from Turbo Granny's arc to a romantic overture, Dandadan takes the excitement up a notch in its sixth episode, "A Dangerous Woman Arrives." New characters add more fuel to the plot, as the simmering pot of horror and humor bubbles over into hostile territory.

Dandadan Episode 6 Review: A Battle of Delusions with Mommy Kinks, A Snobby Attitude & Lost Balls
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Dandadan episode 6

Doesn’t it feel irritating when you lose your b*lls and some random youkai picks them up from the road? I had a horrid dream about Dandadan losing its touch after the fifth episode and it has haunted me since, wondering if five episodes were really all that the series could offer in terms of quality. Much to my luck, that wasn’t the case. Aira reminds me of a girl who is so far deluded by her own illusionary reality that she makes up a world in her own rose-colored glasses.

Okarun and Turbo Granny | Credit: Science Saru

Dandadan episode 6 quite literally brings out the rose-colored lens in its game, showing the world from Aira’s perspective and how self-centered she really is. The episode starts with Momo, Turbo Granny, and Okarun looking for the latter’s family jewels...

Dandadan Mangaka Wrote One of the Best Written Female Protagonists in Shonen Manga After He “Wanted to draw a cute girl”
Image
Dandadan has just debuted its anime series and has immediately become the talk of the town. Why, you ask? Because rather than focusing on the powerups of a single character, the mangaka of Dandadan has created a spectacular cast filled with weirdoes.

From a guy who has lost his family jewels, a girl who thinks she is chosen just because she is beautiful, a granny spirit-medium who looks nothing like the stereotype, all the way to some incredible aliens and yokai. It seems the mangaka knows how to catch his readers by surprise at every turn of the page.

Yukinobu Tatsu both writes and illustrates the Dandadan manga. The series has been published in the Shonen Jump+ magazine and website since April 2021. The manga has been launched into popularity even more with its anime debut.
