Captain Burnham will lead the crew of the USS Discovery on one final mission in 2024, and a new clip finally showed just what the team is up against.

Star Sonequa Martin-Green introduced the series-ending clip alongside showrunner Michelle Paradise at Ccxp in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday. In the scene, Captain Burnham is joined by Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) as they face off against a shape-shifting being that also can cloak, making it a doubly formidable opponent.

“We have to get past it,” Burnham said. “See if you can communicate with it.” After Book communicated with the creature via his mind, Burnham asked, “Did you pick up anything?”

“Halo” Season 2 is almost here, and it looks like Master Chief has his work cut out for him.

Paramount+ announced Saturday that the second season of the video game-based series will premiere on Feb. 8, sharing a dramatic teaser trailer. Instrumental music scores a rousing speech as our heroes embark on a doomed mission.

“You deserve the truth,” the trailer’s rousing speech begins. “The enemy is at our gates. Their numbers are overwhelming. Any Marine who makes this stand with us will not survive the day.”

But, there’s a reason for that sacrifice: “For every moment we hold the enemy at bay, more innocent people can escape. When they do, they will go forth and tell the story that you write today. You will be remembered.”

The word “remembered” echoes over the rest of the trailer as we see more action, including human-alien physical combat.

Paramount Global’s streaming division has elevated two content execs to new leadership positions: Jeff Grossman is now EVP of programming for Paramount+ and Amy Kuessner, EVP of programming for Pluto TV, the company’s ad-supported streaming service.

Grossman will oversee a “holistic” content strategy for Paramount+ globally. He most recently was EVP of content and business operations for Paramount Streaming. Kuessner formerly was EVP, content strategy and global partnerships for Paramount Streaming. In her new role, she will lead the content strategy for Pluto TV, which includes the curation and programming of free, ad-supported television (Fast) channels and content licensing globally.

Both execs now report to Tom Ryan, president and CEO, Paramount Streaming. Grossman previously reported to Tanya Giles, former head of global streaming content, prior to her departure earlier this year. Kuessner previously had reported to Jeff Shultz, Paramount Streaming’s chief strategy officer and chief business development officer.

At the start of the year, Paramount+ renewed Criminal Minds: Evolution for another season after the drama from Erica Messer ended up as one of the streamer’s top five most watched original series. The first, 10-episode season premiered on Thanksgiving of last year and wrapped on Feb. 9.

Production on the second, 10-episode season was delayed in the spring because of the labor dispute.

Recently minted Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh is ready to explore the murky corners of Star Trek’s Section 31 — though in a slightly different way then first anticipated.

Paramount+ announced on Tuesday that Yeoh is locked in to reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in Star Trek: Section 31, which will now arrive in the form of a “special original movie event” for the streaming service.

Paramount Global may put its online learning service for preschoolers, Noggin, on the block, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

A potential sale would be the latest in a series of changes at the media conglomerate as the company seeks to beef up its streaming strategy. The report comes on top of the exploration of a sale of a majority stake in BET Media Group, which includes cable channels BET and VH1.

When reached for comment, Paramount+ declined to confirm nor deny the Journal’s reporting Friday.

The Noggin platform, born out of a 1999 joint venture between Nickelodeon and “Sesame Street” parent Sesame Workshop, caters to kids ages 2–7. It initially included its own TV channel, but that was replaced by Nick Jr. in 2009 after INickelodeon bought out Sesame Workshop’s stake in 2002, the Journal said.

It comes as the streamer revealed that new seasons of both shows will premiere on the service this summer. Season 2 of Strange New Worlds will premiere on June 15. Season 4 of animated series Lower Decks doesn’t have a date yet but the company said “late summer.”

The big changes at Paramount+ continue with a serious shakeup in leadership as Tanya Giles, chief programming officer for streaming at Paramount Global, has left the company, TheWrap has confirmed.

Giles’ exit brings an end to nearly 30 years with Paramount — she joined the company in 1995 as a research assistant and rose steadily through the ranks. Prior to serving as chief programming officer of Paramount+, she served as general manager at MTV networks (starting in 2021), General Manager of Comedy Central (starting in 2017), among many other roles within the company.

Giles was named Cpo of Paramount+ in June, 2021 as part of a restructuring of content leadership. Since then Paramount+ has had several huge successes, most notably the “Yellowstone” spinoff “1923,” one of many Taylor Sheridan-produced hits for the streaming service. These hits have made Paramount+ competitive with longtime streaming giants like Netflix.

The reason for Giles’ exit has not been disclosed.

Giles was promoted in June 2021 to help oversee all streaming content programming efforts for the media conglomerate that has invested heavily in its Paramount+ streaming platform. News of Giles’ departure was first reported by Deadline.

The move comes as Paramount Global has been taking steps to further streamline its content, production and network operations under an increasingly smaller number of leaders. In late January, the company unveiled the plan to consolidate its stalwart pay TV cabler Showtime with the Paramount+ platform.

That shakeup led to the departures of Showtime’s top leaders, Gary Levine and Jana Winograde. David Nevins, another longtime content chief for Paramount and its predecessor, CBS Corp., left the company last fall. Giles was seen as having gained clout and turf amid the shakeups. Nickelodeon Studios and Paramount+ announced over the weekend that an all-new original movie sequel to the iconic '90s feature film based on the sketch from the comedy series All That has landed a formal pickup. 

The movie will follow Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson) and original cashier, Ed (Kel Mitchell), as they reunite in the present day at fast-food restaurant Good Burger with a hilarious new group of employees.

Production is slated to begin in May, with a premiere slated for later this year exclusively on Paramount+.

The Paramount+ sci-fi drama will embark on its final voyage with its upcoming fifth season.

Sources say principal filming of the season is mostly complete. But with this move to end the show, there will be additional filming to help craft a conclusion for the series. The fifth and final season will premiere in early 2024.

Launched in 2017, Discovery is credited with successfully launching a new era of Trek TV. The series, starring Sonequa Martin-Green, was heralded as the first Trek show headed by a Black female lead, plus marked other firsts along the way in Lgbtqia+ representation, as well as pioneered a more serialized storytelling format for the 50-year-old franchise. Discovery also helped launch CBS’ streaming service (then called CBS All Access) and currently stands as Paramount+’s longest-running drama. Paramount+ has officially renewed the latest Yellowstone prequel for a second season.

The news shouldn't come as a surprise.

Deadline reported last year that franchise overlord Taylor Sheridan eyed the show as a 16-episode limited series.

With 1923 Season 1 spanning eight episodes, it was inevitable a follow-up to complete the series would be ordered.

Sheridan confirmed to Deadline in December that he managed to lock Ford and Mirren in for 16 episodes.

"Well, it's really the second half of the season," Sheridan said at the time. 

"This one is different than 1883, where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head."

Sheridan notes that he went on a journey with the story of 1923, stating, "I'm the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got," he recalls.

BET has announced a new documentary film, “Black + Iconic: Style Gods,” starring Billy Porter and produced by Stanley Nelson and Firelight Films. The documentary is part of the new four-part “Black + Iconic” series that will showcase the legacy and cultural impact of Black icons across music, film, fashion and dance.

Porter will narrate, host and executive produce the first documentary in the series, with Lynne Robinson directing. Connie Orlando and Jason Samuels developed the series with supervising producer Steven Ramey.

Emperor Georgiou's exit from Star Trek: Discovery was an ideal setup for Section 31. After she and the USS Discovery arrived in the 32nd century, Georgiou learned she was dying from the ordeal of crossing both time and realities. The Guardian of Forever (Carl Guilfoyle) sent Georgiou back to the Mirror Universe to be "weighted," as a test of whether the Emperor would negatively impact another universe. Instead, Georgiou tried to improve the Terran Empire of the Mirror Universe.

The hit Paramount+ series Seal Team has been renewed for season 7. Seal Team began its run on cable for CBS in 2017, but after airing four seasons, the series was moved exclusively to Paramount+ for season 5 in 2021. Seal Team season 6 debuted in late 2022, and now season 7 is confirmed to be in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seal Team has been renewed for season 7 by CBS to stream exclusively on Paramount+.

Paramount+ today announced the renewal of its hit military drama Seal Team for a seventh season.

The series follows the professional and personal lives of the most elite unit of Navy SEALs, as they train, plan and execute the most dangerous, high-stakes missions our country can ask of them.

David Boreanaz stars as Jason Hayes, the respected and intense team leader, alongside Neil Brown Jr., Aj Buckley, Toni Trucks, and Raffi Barsoumian. 

"We look forward to bringing Seal Team fans even more of the series' poignant storylines and thrilling missions with the upcoming seventh season," said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming.

Paramount+ officially confirmed they’ve renewed the drama Seal Team for a seventh season. The series, led by David Boreanaz, originally aired on CBS for four seasons before moving to the streaming service for seasons five and six. The military drama continues to be a popular addition to Paramount+, with all seasons now available to stream.

“Seal Team” has been renewed for Season 7 at Paramount+, Variety has learned.

The seventh season of the military drama series will now be the third season of the show to air on Paramount+, with the show having originally aired on CBS before moving to the streamer after its fourth season.

Paramount+ has renewed Seal Team, headlined by David Boreanaz, for a seventh season. The pickup comes two months after the popular military drama’s Season 6 finale, which ended with a cliffhanger. The delay, compared to the Season 6 renewal which came a week after the Season 5 finale, prompted fans to launch a #RenewSEALTeam social media campaign, which sent the show’s title trending multiple times over the last few weeks.

The streamer has picked up a seventh season of the David Boreanaz-led drama. It will be the third installment that’s exclusive to Paramount+; the series ran for four seasons on CBS before moving platforms with season five in fall 2021.

The streaming service has renewed Criminal Minds: Evolution for a second season, it was revealed Thursday.

Criminal Minds started its life in 2005 and concluded its run on CBS in 2020.

The revival was announced to be in the works shortly after, but there were some bumps in the road before we could hear the iconic term "wheels up" again.

The second life of Criminal Minds will continue on Paramount+.

The 10-episode current season premiered on Thanksgiving 2022 with most of the original cast members reprising the roles they performed when the procedural aired on CBS from 2005-2020. A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster all returned. They comprise an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds and anticipate their next moves.

Paramount Global’s chief programming officer Tanya Giles suggests that Tulsa King could start its own universe. The show centers around mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), who is stationed in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a 25-year prison sentence. Premiering in November 2022, season 1 earned strong ratings and praise for Stallone’s performance. Tulsa King was renewed for another season shortly after episode 2.

Giles shares with IndieWire that Tulsa King has the potential to kick off its own universe.
