Bungo Stray Dogs: Beast is an official alternate universe of the original Bungo Stray Dogs series, offering a much grimmer and darker take on the characters and events that unfold. Unlike the main storyline, Beast flips roles and explores how the characters fates could have dramatically changed under different circumstances. This alternate reality provides fans with a deeper understanding of the mysterious book in the original timeline and how it partially functions.

Bungo Stray Dogs: Beast doesnt shy away from making the storyline darker than it already was. The story follows Atsushi Nakahima, an orphan who finds himself homeless and starving on the streets of Yokohama. One day, Atsushi encounters Osamu Dazai, a suicidal young man who eventually introduces him to a group of individuals, all of which have names in the same path, including Ranpo Edogawa and Junichiro Tanizaki. They also happen to be members of the Armed Detective Agency, a group of detectives with supernatural abilities who handle cases involving dangerous and otherworldly criminals.
