Trivia

Roy Wood

Edit
  • Wrote two songs dedicated to his beau of the time, Lynsey de Paul, one of which, "Rock 'n' Roll Winter (Looney's tune)" reached #6 in the U.K. charts. The second song was an album track enquiring "Why Does Such a Pretty Girl Sing Such Sad Songs?".
  • Singer and musician.
  • Plays keyboards, horn, cello, guitar, bass and bagpipes.
  • Member of the Move, the Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard.
  • Has performed with the S.A.S. (Spike Edney's All Stars) Band.
  • Best recognized by most people for being the voice of the enduring Wizzard classic "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" (originally a hit back in 1973).
  • His favorite songs are "I'm So Excited" by The Pointer Sisters, "Just Like Starting Over" by John Lennon, "Wonderful Land" by The Shadows, "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones, "Wake Up Call" by Maroon 5, "Cry Me A River" by Julie London, "Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley, "Spring: Four Seasons" performed by Nigel Kennedy and "Girl Can't Help It" by Little Richard. (Source: BBC Radio 2 "Tracks of My Years").
  • Said he regards John Barry's opening arrangement to the song "You Only Live Twice" as the best he had ever heard.
  • Roy Wood formed the Electric Light Orchestra in 1971, as the Move band was winding down. Before Jeff Lynne took over as the group's driving force, Wood was the one who added the classical music pieces to the songs. He did this by recording the pieces individually.
  • Made an Honorary Doctorate of Music by the University of Derby in 2008.
  • Became the frontman of the band The Move, after lead singer Carl Wayne left in 1970.
  • Was the main songwriter for the Move group.
