Accomplished character actor Paul Ben-Victor is joining the Dcu in the upcoming HBO seriesLanterns, and he might be secretly playing a fan-favorite DC villain. Lanterns is currently filming, aiming for a 2026 premiere date that will likely come before the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Even though Lanterns has been described as an Earth-bound mystery involving Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), that doesn't mean intergalactic threats won't find their way into the series.
Deadline reports that actor Paul Ben-Victor has signed on for a recurring role in the Dcu's Lanterns. The DC Universe and The Batman Epic Crime Saga are no longer DC Studios' only shared universes. My Adventures with Superman showrunner/executive producer Jake Wyatt has confirmed that a recently announced animated series will exist within the same universe as the 2023 cartoon.
At a recent DC Studios press event, co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced three new "younger-skewing" cartoons: Starfire, DC Super Powers, and My Adventures with Green Lantern. While it wasn't confirmed during the event, many fans suspected that My Adventures with Green Lantern might be connected to Maws beyond the similar naming convention, especially since Wyatt is attached to Mawgl as an executive producer. Wyatt didn't keep fans guessing for long, confirming with a post on X that the two shows would be part of the same shared universe.

Nathan Fillion might play a cop on The Rookie, but even he knows some of the show’s rules are just plain ridiculous. And no, we’re not talking about the high-speed chases or the dramatic shootouts. It’s something way simpler — but way worse.

Marvel has some heavy hitters in its character roster, with everyone knowing the sheer power of heroes like Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Thor, as well as the immense threat of Marvel villains like Doctor Doom, Sabretooth, and Galactus. However, not every character in Marvel's comics can be powerful and formidable, with quite a few being pretty weak, especially compared to some of their peers.
Likewise, there are Marvel characters who have powers that are so useless that they honestly would not be worse off without their powers. In fact, some would actually be better off without their powers, like ForgetMeNot and Bailey Hoskins. Many of the characters who have pretty useless powers come from the X-Men franchise, where their mutations are not the most helpful or even somewhat useful.

The tragedy that Batman went through is what inspired him to eventually become a superhero, and it's been a major part of his character for the majority of his history - but it doesn't even hold a candle to the tragedy experienced by one Green Lantern ally. While witnessing his parents murdered is certainly a tragic backstory for Bruce Wayne, it pales in comparison to the backstory of Blue Lantern Saint Walker.
Batman's backstory is well-known; even people who don't read comic books are familiar with what happened to him. Bruce Wayne grew up in great fortune and was incredibly lucky. Not only did he have the wealth to pursue any interest, but he also had a loving family that truly cared about him. It seemed like he was set to have an incredible and perfect life.

While Green Lantern isn't usually seen as powerful a hero as Superman is, his most powerful villains tell a different story. Over the years, Hal Jordan and his allies in the Green Lantern Corps have taken on some of the most terrifying villains around and saved the DC Universe from total annihilation.
The Man of Steel might have Kryptonian physiology on his side, but the only limit for a Green Lantern is their imagination and willpower. And thanks to the bravery of people like Hal and John Stewart, they've been able to take on ten powerful villains that prove Green Lantern is a Superman-level hero.

DC Comics' Blue Lanterns carry an essential superhero theme that sets DC apart from other publishers: hope. Ever since Green Lantern lore expanded to include the full range of the rainbow and the entire emotional spectrum, DC has added a piece of its own identity in a seemingly small corner of its comic universe.
While it's often joked that DC is darker than what reader might expect superhero comics to be, hope shines in the darkness, and that's why the Blue Lantern Corps means so much to me as a reader. Green Lanterns still take the lead in many of DC's comics, and while willpower is vitally important to the battles that these DC heroes find themselves in, I have seen time and again that there is no willpower without hope.
Often lost in the background, the Blue Lantern Corps is like a support team in the fight and the medics of the battlefield.

If you loved the mid-2000s relaunch of the Green Lantern franchise, then I sincerely hope you're reading the current series. Geoff Johns didn't just bring Hal Jordan back into the spotlight in his renowned Green Lantern epic, he brought the character to new heights and added elements to the mythos that are still being explored today.
It was a hell of an act to follow up and while there were some amazing stories that came afterward, few matched the work Johns and his co-creators made. But I think that this latest era has finally done the impossible and produced the best Green Lantern era in a long, long time.

For the fastest man alive, the Flash has had a lot of quick changes through the years, and yet one thing is sure: Barry Allen looks good in red and yellow. Allen's Flash has been around since 1956, when he ushered DC Comics into its celebrated Silver Age. However, it did take him more than fifty years to finally change his costume. Once he got started, there was just no catching up with him.
From lantern rings to alternate realities to possible futures, the very best Barry Allen Flash costumes in comic history have little in common other than the man wearing them. That said, these costumes are the foundation for the Flash Family and influenced what every subsequent Flash would wear, such as Wally West and his various costumes. But Barry Allen is the quintessential Flash, and he's got the fastest fashion show in the world.

There are tons of unbelievable fighters in the DC Universe, from the likes of Lady Shiva to Richard Dragon, and a large amount of these fighters are all members of the Bat-Family. The Bat-Family has heavy hitters such as Dick Grayson, Cassandra Cain, and Batman — some of the greatest martial artists to ever exist in comics. But none of these characters have a 100% win-rate. The only Bat-Family member who is truly undefeated is none other than Bat-Cow.
Batman has adopted, legally and metaphoricallt, many people over his years as a crime fighter: Dick Grayson, Cassandra Cain, Duke Thomas, and many more. But without a doubt one of the most iconic members of the Bat-Family is the Bat-Cow, who is a cow that was adopted by Robin Damian Wayne — not Bruce himself — after the pair stopped a group of criminals in a slaughterhouse in Batman Incorporated #1 by Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham,...

The Flash's true speed is revealed in a comic series, establishing him as the ultimate speedster in the DC Universe. Flash has always held back and slowed himself down when racing Superman, making it clear that he is faster than anyone else. While the debate of who is faster, Flash or Superman, may continue, this line of dialogue settles the argument and solidifies Flash as the unbeatable speedster.
In DC Comics, The Flash is quite literally the “Fastest Man Alive,” with his blistering speed allowing him to run anywhere in the world in mere seconds, leaving both friends and foes alike in the dust. And in a comic series marking Barry Allen’s return to the superhero fold after twenty long years of being away, a single line of dialogue sees Flash redefine his speed... and explain why other heroes like Superman will never be able to keep pace with him ever again.

New Superman fanart turns Clark Kent into a Blue Lantern, in what would be the Man of Tomorrow's ultimate form. A select group of heroes, the Blue Lantern Corps are an influential force in the galaxy, and fans have long speculated that Superman would be their perfect recruit, following in the long tradition of Justice League heroes getting short durations with different colored power rings.
In gorgeous art shared to Twitter, artist Mike Becker turns Superman into a Blue Lantern. Clark gets the iconic blue, white, and black of the Corps, as well as their symbol replacing his logo, although the iconic 'S' shield is present behind him as an energy construct. Superman's cape gets a hood, echoing monk-like robes, and he is shown grinning at his new role. The art was created as a commission for @Isimmons_art by Becker, who is the creator between Young Offenders! and Empyrex Adventures,...

The Sentinels are some of the X-Men's most dangerous foes and their deadliest form has never been topped since its appearance. There have been many varieties of Sentinels over the years, but in 2002’s New X-Men #123, writer Grant Morrison and artist Ethan Van Sciver show fans perhaps the most dangerous form of the killer robots yet. These deadly Sentinels nearly brought the X-Men to their knees–and there has never been a more dangerous variety since.
Few foes strike more fear into the hearts of the X-Men than the Sentinels. The first version of the mutant-hunting robots first appeared in 1965’s X-Men #14. Created by Bolivar Trask to hunt, capture and in some cases, even kill mutants, the Sentinels cut a terrifying presence. There have been many types of Sentinels, including the future ultimate X-Men nemesis Nimrod, and most have been robotic in nature, but a few have also used biological components.

To many fans, the Green Lantern known as Hal Jordan is one of DC Comics’ greatest heroes. Hal has gone toe-to-toe with just about everything the DC Universe can throw at him and has always come out on top. But unfortunately for Hal, in the eyes of many readers, he remains a boring and generic character.
As the Silver Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan has been around for quite a few decades. And while his publication history has seen him grow and evolve alongside the rest of the DC Universe, in some ways, Hal retains many traits of the Space Age era in which he was first created. For much of his publication history, Hal was portrayed as an establishment figure and a real stick in the mud, especially when compared to more outspoken Lanterns like John Stewart or Guy Gardner. The DC Universe has had several groundbreaking events, but nothing as consequential as its many Crises. A ‘Crisis’ generally refers to events that have wide-ranging effects on the structure of the Dcu, usually impacting DC’s multiverse or its timeline. Though the name comes from the Silver Age crossovers between Earths One and Two, the term has become shorthand for Crisis on Infinite Earths, and events of a similar nature.
Currently, around eight events meet the definition of a Crisis. These stories have had the most significant effects on the DC Universe and are known for their dramatic changes to continuity. Read on to see how the Crises rank from worst to best.

When it comes to DC Comics friendships, the dynamic between Wonder Woman and her fellow Justice League teammate, the Flash, is heavily overlooked. In terms of superheroic partnerships, Diana is most frequently paired with fellow League members like Superman or Batman. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Speedster is usually paired with the brave and bold Green Lantern.
Wonder Woman and the Flash may not seem like the most obvious pairing, and in fact many may think they have little in common. After all, Diana is a mythical princess form and ancient and magical civilization while Wally West is a blue-collar human from a small Midwestern town. But despite their differences, or perhaps because of them, Wonder Woman and the Flash bounce incredibly well off one another – and they’ve proven it time and time again.

When it comes to operating costs, the most expensive team isn't the Bat-Family or even the Justice League: it's the Green Lantern Corps. The cost of just one Power Battery reveals how much money it theoretically takes to fund the DC Universe's interstellar peacekeeping force.
At its peak, the Green Lantern Corps is one of the most widespread organizations in the entire Dcu. Arming over seven thousand beings across multiple galaxies with Power Rings, the Green Lanterns protect all sentient creatures from some of the worst threats imaginable. Thankfully, it's nothing the team can't handle as the Green Lantern Power Ring is one of the most powerful weapons ever created. However, even an outfit as intimidating as the Corps is no stranger to damage, as the Corps has been destroyed several times in the past. But they always manage to build themselves back up stronger than before.

It seems that there's more than meets the eye when it comes to the various Corps symbols in Green Lantern's lore. One Green Lantern artist revealed the secret history behind each sigil in the Emotional Spectrum.
Though the Green Lantern is the most well-known light-based organization in the DC Universe, it is but one fraction of a force known as the Emotional Spectrum. Millennia ago, the White Light of Creation was fractured into seven lights, each with their own emotional frequency. From passionate emotions like love to influential feelings such as fear, the Green Lantern universe got bigger with the Emotional Spectrum. In the same way that the Corps uses the Green Light of Will to protect the universe, every other organization in the Spectrum uses their lights for their own ends. And like the corps that preceded them, all other light-bearers have a unique symbol for their particular force.

A dark phase in Green Lantern's life seems to be continuously misunderstood. When attempting to round up the evil speedster, Zoom, the villain had some interesting remarks on Hal Jordan's unfortunate era as Parallax.
Green Lantern Hal Jordan is considered one of the best members of the Corps to have ever worn a ring. However, Hal's life took a terrible turn when his hometown of Coast City was destroyed by the Cyborg Superman and Mongul. Jordan let fear into his mind and opened himself up to being possessed by the fear entity Parallax, which turned the noble Green Lantern into a villain that almost remade the DC Universe as he saw fit. Fortunately, Jordan was purged of the entity's influence and resumed his life as a high-ranking member of the Green Lantern Corps. Unfortunately, he's never been able to completely put those days as Parallax behind him for good.

Green Lantern is a character renowned for his willpower, but Batman is also famous for his, so why can one use a Green Lantern ring and the other can't? DC revealed in an old Green Lantern comic the very dark reason why Batman will never be able to wield a power ring.
In order to use a Green Lantern ring, the wearer must have an incredible amount of willpower. Hal Jordan is perhaps the most famous of all the Green Lanterns and also one of the strongest. Batman is one of the most dangerous and capable people on the planet, yet everything he's ever accomplished has just been with his own bare hands or the tools he's made. He's never made anything magical or alien part of his everyday arsenal, but the addition of a Green Lantern ring could make all the difference. So if Batman's willpower is so great,...

Hal Jordan may be one of the Green Lanterns greatest ring-slingers, but he may also be responsible for the creation of the Corps' evil doppelgangers. Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War Special #1 reveals how Jordan inadvertently helped start the Sinestro Corps.
Few enemies of the Green Lantern Corps have caused as many problems as the fallen Lantern Sinestro. Once a noble and respected officer within the Corps, Sinestro was cast out over his abuse of power with his ring. Sinestro did keep his home planet of Korguar virtually crime free, but only because he used his Green Lantern Power Ring to keep his world in a state of perpetual fear. Sinestro later took his guiding principle of fear and used it to create an entire Corps made in his own image. Since their creation, the malicious Sinestro Corps has been a persistent thorn in the Green Lantern Corps' side.

The Green Lanterns have faced a lot of death in their line of work, but one demise remains that franchise's worst. And no, it's surprisingly not the death Kyle Rayner's girlfriend Alexandra DeWitt, but someone who was much closer to the hero for years.
As the DC Universe's greatest peacekeeping force, death is just part of the job for a Green Lantern. Every day, the Corps faces possible death at the hands of their enemies. Even more unfortunate, the lives of those in a Green Lantern's life are also at risk. One hero found that out the hard way when Green Lantern Kyle Rayner's girlfriend was murdered at the hands of Major Force and had her body stuffed in a refrigerator. That particular death brought attention to the concept now known as 'fridging', a narrative trope in which female characters are harmed or killed to advance a male character's story.

It seems that one of the greatest upgrades to Green Lantern Kyle Rayner may have just been a lie. The longtime enemy of the Corps, Sinestro, cruelly revealed the unfortunate truth behind Rayner's ascension to the powerful, godlike Ion.
Kyle Rayner's history with the Green Lanterns is a bit of a checkered one. Rayner took over as the sole Green Lantern after Hal Jordan became the villain Parallax and destroyed the Corps after going mad with grief due to the destruction of Coast City. Despite the uphill battle he faced, Kyle proved he had what it took to be a Green Lantern. In fact, Kyle excelled in the role so much, he wound up gaining godlike powers as the hero Ion, thanks to his absorbing of an excess amount of Green Lantern energy. As Ion, there was virtually nothing Kyle couldn't do, with all of reality at his command.

In 2011, the silver screen debut of Green Lantern landed like a thud instead of soaring like a triumph. The film was dismissed both by critics and wider audiences; one of the more positive reviews was Roger Ebert's middling praise, "['Green Lantern'] intends to be a sound-and-light show, assaulting the audience with sensational special effects. If that's what you want, that's what you get."
Time hasn't been any kinder to "Green Lantern." Star Ryan Reynolds has poked fun at it in both of his subsequent "Deadpool" movies. "Green Lantern" was conceived as the beginning of a larger DC Comics film franchise, meant to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, its hero has been persona non grata on film since. Green Lantern is usually a staple of the Justice League but in both versions of that film, the only Lantern who showed up was a cameo.

Despite a parade of directors, writers, rumors, and release dates, The Flash movie is still coming to the Dceu. With a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) and directed by Andy Muschietti (WB’s two-part horror epic It), the Dceu Flash movie will be loosely inspired by Flashpoint, a DC Comics story that remains a major touchstone in the life of Barry Allen.
For those who don’t know, Flashpoint was a 2011 comic from Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert which saw Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, from murdering Barry’s mother. As a result, a Butterfly Effect-esque “flashpoint” causing radical changes to the DC Universe. But the roots of Flashpoint go even further back, to another Geoff Johns-written Flash tale.

Big changes are going on over at DC Comics as last week saw co-publisher Dan Didio step down from his position after a decade of being in charge. Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter will tell the story of Barry Allen's first year on the job in The Flash: Year One.
I have gone on at length, at virtually every opportunity, about Josh Williamson's tenure as writer on The Flash. Williamson and numerous artists have crafted a run that encompasses decades of Flash continuity, the entire Flash family, numerous rogues, and more over the last two years. He is far from finished.
Williamson will reunite with artist Howard Porter, who drew the excellent "The Button" story last year for "The Flash: Year One." It's exactly what it says it is, a deep dive into Barry Allen's origin story. Believe it or not, Barry's early days as Flash have never really been explored in comics. His origin story from 1956's Showcase #4 is relatively unchanged, and that brief tale saw him emerge as a more or less fully formed hero.

Greg Grunberg's Temmin "Snap" Wexley barely got three seconds of screen time in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi after appearing for an expanded cameo in 2015's The Force Awakens. Not a whole lot of Star Wars fans noticed that he went missing after the opening moments of Episode 8, stowed aboard Billie Lourd's ship as it escapes D'Qar. Many thought he'd died in an earlier fight between the Resistance and the First Order. But he's poised to make a return to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars 9 according to a recent interview with Grunberg.
In the last film, the Resistance were pretty much depleted while trying to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and General Hux. Though he wasn't on the Millennium Falcon at the end of The Last Jedi, it now looks like good ol' Snap Wexley, the least essential character from the franchise, has survived.
