Hours before the 2025 Oscars red carpet began, rumors circulated online that former Vice President Kamala Harris could be attending the awards ceremony. However, less than an hour before the show, her husband, Doug Emhoff, revealed that she had much different plans for the big night. “Oscars watch party prep,” Emhoff wrote on X, alongside a post of Harris pouring chips into a bowl. The politician had a big smile on her face as she looked right at the camera while performing the party prep in her kitchen. Emhoff’s post came after Deadline reported that there was “heavier than usual” security at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, leading to speculation that the enhanced security measures were due to Harris’ potential appearance. While one Academy source told the outlet that rumors of the former vice president’s attendance were “not true,” another insider said that her “decision not to attend...

Update: The stars will be out today at the Oscars, but Kamala Harris won’t be among them after all.
Expected to attend the 97th Academy Awards according to several sources, the former Veep is staying home Sunday. The new plan was made public by ex-Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff just now.

Amidst much heavier than usual security, the decision not to attend was made earlier this afternoon for a variety of reasons, we’re told. While AMPAS did not respond earlier Sunday to request for comment from Deadline on Harris’ attendance at the Conan O’Brien hosted ceremony, an Academy source did tell us “not true” about the VP coming.
Previously, 12:45 Pm: No word if Kamala Harris is presenting or not, but there’s a very good chance the former Vice President will be attending the 97th Academy Awards today.

Former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris received a hero’s reception, including multiple standing ovations and enthusiastic applause, at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, where she was on hand to receive the Chairman’s Award.
Seated in the audience with husband Doug Emhoff, Harris was introduced by NAACP board of directors chair Leon W. Russell.
“Against impossible odds, she gave America a campaign that was a force of nature,” Russell said of Harris’ 2024 presidential bid, which saw her ascend to the top of the Democratic ticket in late July after President Joe Biden ended his re-election effort. “No one else could’ve accomplished what she did, and no one else is more deserving of our gratitude.”
Harris, of course, ultimately lost the general election to the Republican candidate, President Donald Trump. However, she received more than 75 million votes after a campaign that lasted roughly 100 days.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” Kamala Harris told the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday night in her first major public appearance since leaving office last month.
Accepting this year’s Chairman’s Award on Saturday at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, the ex-vp came on stage to a standing ovation from the star studded attendees at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Resurrecting her campaign mantra of “We the People,” California-born Harris sounded a lot like someone who wasn’t thinking of retiring from public life.
“This chapter will be written, not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office, nor by the wealthiest among us,” the former Vice President and 2024 White House candidate added with a swipe at Donald Trump and Elon Musk without mentioning either of her political foes by name. “The American story will be written by you, written by us, by We the People.” — as you can...

Kamala Harris has signed with CAA, returning to the agency that represented her before she became Vice President. Her signing comes just a couple weeks after the agency announced it would represent former President Joe Biden.
CAA’s representation of Harris will be in all areas, with a focus on speaking engagements and publishing, the agency said Tuesday.
“CAA will work closely with Harris on her post-White House initiatives, creating strategic opportunities that expand her platform in support of the issues she has championed throughout decades-long career in public service,” CAA said.
CAA represented Harris when she was a U.S. senator, a period in which she published her memoir The Truths We Hold: An American Journey. Breaker first reported on Harris’ signing.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, have returned to Los Angeles. There has been speculation that she may return to politics with a run for governor of California next year.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff went backstage to meet with the cast and crew of A Wonderful World, a Broadway musical about jazz legend Louis Armstrong, on Saturday night. Footage released on the show’s official Instagram page shows Harris shaking hands and posing for pictures at Studio 54 after Saturday night’s performance. In a voiceover, the vice president can be heard saying, “In times when we’re dealing with so much in the world, we have to find those moments that are about joy, and shining — you know, as we say, shining a light in moments of darkness. And knowing that that light comes from within as well as from without, and seeing that light in each other. You guys are doing all of that.” (Credit: @awonderfulworldbway via Storyful)

(Updated with video) Saturday Night Live has had a lot of Potus mocking over the decades, but you wouldn’t have known it from Sunday’s SNL50: The Anniversary Special.
Tonight’s live show had Alec Baldwin, Will Ferrell, Jay Pharoah, Tina Fey, Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler in attendance but there was nothing of the presidents and presidential candidates they’ve played and poked fun at over nearly 10 presidencies.
In an era where Donald Trump and the FCC are targeting the media and media owners, Baldwin’s acclaimed impression of the former Celebrity Apprentice and SNL host was noticeably absent. Whether or not it was the chill of further legal and regulatory action against NBC owners Comcast, with almost everything else and the kitchen sink from SNL‘s history on screen tonight, seeing no politics out of the Potus-mocking show’s long legacy was almost as rank...

We’re celebrating 50 years of “Saturday Night Live“! All this week, we’re digging into the late-night comedy institution with new stories, including lists, essays, interviews, and more.
Back in the early aughts, when The Lonely Island exploded on “Saturday Night Live” and a germinating viral internet, Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer would churn out silly ear worms weekly. It was a mix of songs they wrote in the pressure cooker of “SNL” and others they had been working on over breaks and sporadic studio sessions — which is what happened in 2024 with new releases “Sushi Glory Hole” and “Here I Go.”
“Lorne had asked me to come back for the Doug Emhoff stuff, for the election coverage,” Samberg told IndieWire over the phone. “We happened to have some songs ready to go, and there’s no place we’d rather put a video than ‘SNL.’ It’s where we started,...

She certainly didn’t think it was going to be this bad for her, yet here we are. Of course, we are talking about Kamala Harris as she is supposedly facing the most difficult time in her life.
And that’s not just because she lost the presidential election to Donald Trump. It also seems like her personal life has been falling apart, too.
Kamala Harris Is Facing The Most Difficult Time In Her Life
Ever since Kamala Harris left the White House, there’s been strong speculation suggesting that she’s getting ready to pull the plug on her marriage to her husband, Doug Emhoff. But that’s only if he doesn’t end up walking out on her first.
It’s being said that Kamala wants to move back to California so she can work for her bid on possibly becoming the next governor of the Golden State.

“I’m really sorry, I f*cked up,” Justin Baldoni admitted to his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively in a 2 a.m. voice message in April 2023 after delivering a less-than-enthusiastic response to a scene rewrite from the deflated Gossip Girl vet.

Doug Emhoff is returning to private practice as law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher today welcomed the former (and first ever) Second Gentleman of the United Sates as a partner.
Emhoff’s practice will focus on advising corporations, boards of directors and individuals on their most consequential business challenges, sensitive investigations, and complex litigation, including matters with significant reputational concerns that are international in scope, and emerging legal issues across industries and sectors, the firm said. He will split his time between Los Angeles and New York.

Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, refused to give Bruce Fischer, the husband of Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska), a handshake at Monday’s Inauguration.
Earlier this month, Bruce was criticized on social media for refusing to shake Harris’ hand during Deb’s swearing-in ceremony, even though other angles of this moment reveal that his right hand, often used for handshakes, was used to grip his cane.
During the ceremony, Harris administered the oath to the Nebraska senator while her hand was rested on the Bible. She then shook her hand, congratulated her, and thanked her for her work.

Ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted Trump and Melania Trump for a private tea at the White House. The meeting marked a symbolic gesture of the peaceful transfer of power, with both families traveling together to the U.S. Capitol for the inauguration ceremony.
The event was a departure from 2021, when Trump skipped Biden’s swearing-in and flew to Florida instead. This year’s gathering was seen as an effort to restore a sense of tradition and civility, despite the political tensions of the past election.
In a gesture of welcome, Biden greeted Trump with, “Welcome home!” The tea followed the custom of outgoing presidents meeting their successors before the inauguration, a tradition that was not observed in 2021.

As wildfires continue to ravage Southern California, local law enforcement has arrested numerous people attempting to take advantage of the situation.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Deadline that two individuals were arrested at the Vice President’s Brentwood home at 4:40am on Saturday. Ultimately, they could not prove the individuals were involved in burglary, however they were detained for “violating curfew.”
As of late last week, a curfew has been imposed on evacuation zones from 6pm to 6am to curb looting and unrest.
Since the fires started, officers have made 29 arrests across the impacted areas, including for burglary, breaking curfew and other violations.
Fires have broken out in the Pacific Palisades, Eaton Canyon, Malibu, the Hollywood Hills and other areas around Los Angeles County amid a “life-threatening and destructive” windstorm that picked up Tuesday.

I would have liked to have really seen what was going on, but I didn’t have any sound.

Presidents past, present and future were all in attendance at Jimmy Carter’s state funeral on Thursday morning — or, as Stephen Colbert dubbed them on Thursday night, the “Marvel Presidential Universe.”
The nation’s 39th president died on Dec. 29, 2024, at the age of 100, surpassing Ronald Reagan as the oldest American president. Carter’s funeral was carried on all the major news networks, with some people stunned at whom was sitting next to each other.
But Colbert was mostly just amused by who was even in attendance.
“You got ‘Captain Saxophone,’ ‘Madam Popular Vote,'” Colbert joked, referring to Bill and Hillary Clinton, “‘The Invisible Wmd,’ ‘Mr. Netflix,’ ‘When We Harley, We Quinn,’ ‘Staredevil,’ ‘Dr. Dumbass’ and Doug.”
In order, Colbert was referring to George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and, well, Doug Emhoff. Like Peter in “Deadpool 2,” Doug doesn’t need a super moniker.

The former US Presidents, Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, were all photographed at the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday (January 9) in Washington, DC.
Also seen paying respects for the former President were former First Ladies Melania Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush, as well as President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, VP Kamala Harris, her husband Doug Emhoff, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former VP Al Gore, and former VP Mike Pence. It does not appear as if former President Obama‘s wife, Michelle Obama, joined him.
President elect Trump shook hands with Mike Pence. The pair had a fallout in early 2021 as Trump denied the election results.

Up until taking on Gov. Tim Walz on Saturday Night Live, Jim Gaffigan tended to stay away from politics in his comedy.
But the Emmy-winning comedian doesn’t regret the times he spoke his mind, including a 2020 tweet in which he called Donald Trump “a liar and a criminal,” despite losing some Trump supporters as fans.
“I regret that people think that I was criticizing people that support Trump. And that was never the intention,” he explained on The Daily Beast’s The Last Laugh podcast. “I regret—someone said like, now I can’t follow you anymore and I kind of said ‘F you’ to them. But it’s weird because I think authenticity is really an important thing, not only as a comedian, but also with your children.

“Saturday Night Live’s” cold open took direct aim at the internet obsession about Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of the United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson with a sketch that featured Sarah Sherman as true crime maven Nancy Grace.
“Y’all psychos find him a sex symbol,” Sherman as Grace told the audience in diving into the shocking story of the brazen Dec. 4 slaying in Manhattan of Thompson walked to an investor conference. With over-the-top tabloid delivery Grace observed that Mangione “has women and gay guys hot and bothered,” describing him as “Dave Franco with Eugene Levy’s eyebrows.”
Kenan Thompson appeared later in the sketch as a man on the street who happened to encounter the killer. Interviewing him at the McDonald’s where the alleged killer was caught, Grace asked Thompson’s character “can you believe people were attracted to this sexy slayer?”
To which Thompson replied, “Women love bad boys.

The 2024 edition of the Kennedy Center Honors celebrated an eclectic assortment of entertainers Sunday night: filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, singer Bonnie Raitt, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and surviving members of the Grateful Dead. The organization also bestowed its honor on an entertainment venue for the first time, New York’s iconic Apollo Theater.
As per tradition, the honorees observed the proceedings from the presidential box in the Kennedy Center Opera House, accompanied by President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and First Husband Doug Emhoff. Freshly arrived from a White House reception, all received rousing ovations from an appreciative audience when introduced.
That White House tradition could go on hiatus during the incoming Trump administration, since Donald Trump notably declined to participate in the affair during his first presidency. Nonetheless, invitations will be extended by the rigidly nonpartisan arts institution, the Kencen assures.
Slated to air on CBS Dec.

It’s Homecoming Year at Saturday Night Live — as the show celebrates its 50th season, several former cast members have returned to get a piece of Lorne Michaels’ anniversary cake. Not all comedy cameos are created equal, however. Here are all of the SNL alumni who’ve returned this year, ranked by their impact on the show…
7 Punkie Johnson
I’ll admit it — until I dug into this list, I didn’t realize Punkie Johnson, who left the show over the summer after getting passed over to play Kamala, had appeared during Season 50. But there she is during the good-byes of the Charli Xcx show, relegated to the second row behind fellow ex-cast members Kyle Mooney and Andy Samberg. The fact that most didn’t know Johnson was there earns her last place on this list.

Megyn Kelly’s Husband Discuss Meghan Markle On Podcast ‘Dedicated with Doug Brunt’
Meghan Markle is starting to catch a lot of unnecessary criticisms from fans and media commenters alike now that news of her and Prince Harry’s professional separation has surfaced.

It’s no secret that Saturday Night Live has been assigning some of its most high-profile political roles to celebrity friends of the show, as opposed to its current bench of talent. In the run-up to the election, SNL brought in former cast members Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey and Andy Samberg to play Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and Doug Emhoff, respectively. Also, Jim Gaffigan was hired as Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz — a pretty good fit, considering that Walz actually did talk about Hot Pockets while on the campaign trail.

But now that the election is over, not every guest star has stopped hanging around Studio 8H on Saturday nights. Dana Carvey has continued making regular appearances on SNL, not just as Biden, but as Elon Musk. And he will continue to do so until at least December.

[This story contains spoilers from the season three premiere of Sex Lives of College Girls, “Welcome Back to Essex.”]
Sex Lives of College Girls picked up right at the start of the school year when it returned with season three, similar to how season one began. But this year, the girls are now sophomores.
Over the summer, Leighton (Reneé Rapp) and Alicia (Midori Francis) traveled across Europe with Leighton’s dad, Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) worked, Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) was in Washington D.C., with her senator mother (played by Sherri Shepherd), and Bela (Amrit Kaur) and Leighton visited Whitney and even had dinner with Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff.
When season three picks up, Kimberly and Whitney are still at odds, not having spoken all summer because Kimberly lied to Whitney about kissing her ex, Canaan (Christopher Meyer), at the end of last year. And Bela’s efforts to transfer out of Essex College after hitting rock bottom are thwarted when a counselor, played by Rose Abdoo, tells...

Dana Carvey isn’t done with his return to Saturday Night Live, although he’s probably packing in the Elon Musk impression for now.
While sharing an anecdote about recent host John Mulaney, the SNL alum revealed he’s returning to the NBC sketch comedy show next month amid his guest appearances as Joe Biden and Musk.
“When you leave the good nights at SNL, sometimes you do it with the host. You go under the bleachers and you come out. So I think it was John Mulaney. He just went right before me, and I think he was going, and then he started skipping,” he recalled on his Superfly podcast. “And I started skipping too, and skipping feels really good compared to walking or even running. The cast of “Saturday Night Live” faked audiences out by praising Donald Trump in the series’ first episode after his election.
In the cold open, cast members somberly discussed Trump’s victory and warned that “now, thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails.”
“And that is why, we at ‘SNL’ would like to say to Donald Trump: We have been with you all along,” Kenan Thompson added.
“We have never wavered in our support of you, even when others doubted you!” Bowen Yang added sarcastically, before Sarah Sherman said, “Every single person on this stage believed in you.”
“Every single person on this stage voted for you!” added Marcello Hernández.
The cast continued its faux-praise of the next president, as Colin Jost threw his “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che under the bus, calling him the “lame-stream media.” (Jost later appeared on screen wearing a Jan. 6-style viking helmet.

Andy Samberg is a beloved figure in Saturday Night Live history. He brought a unique model to the show with his Digital Shorts, and was a core member of the 2000s cast that many consider to be the last wave of SNL talent. America’s late-night talk show hosts are currently reeling from the dismal election results, but what about ex-hosts?
Well, Jay Leno proclaimed that it was a “great day for democracy” during an interview on The Talk, proving once again that we really don’t need to hear from Jay Leno on any subject ever again for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, Leno’s former competitor David Letterman has also been weighing in on the election, albeit in a slightly subtler manner.
Letterman was a vocal supporter of the Democrats this year, and was scheduled to host a fundraiser for Joe Biden until he dropped out. The event still happened, but with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff instead — although not getting Commander, Biden’s bitey German Shepherd, to perform some Stupid Pet Tricks feels like a missed opportunity.

Facing a crowd of supporters, a number of them wiping away tears, Kamala Harris delivered a concession speech Wednesday in which she urged them to not despair and not give up at a critical period in American history.
“To everyone who is watching: Do not despair. This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves,” Harris said to the crowd at Howard University.
Many in the crowd were at the same place Tuesday night, hopeful that it would be a victory celebration for winning the 2024 presidential election. Instead, the mood turned grim when it was apparent that the election was shifting Donald Trump’s way.
Harris made a point of noting that, in her phone call with Trump today, she told him that “we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” a contrast to the president-elect’s refusal to do so four years ago.

“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for. But hear me when I say, the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,” she said in front of supporters, friends and family, including husband Doug Emhoff and daughter Ella Emhoff and her VP pick, Tim Walz and his daughter Hope Walz.

Andy Samberg has been a constant presence on Saturday Night Live this season, playing wannabe First Fella Doug Emhoff to Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris. “It’s been fun, I gotta say,” Samberg said on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast. “It’s been really fun going back, but again, also inheriting — re-inheriting — the stress of it and being like, ‘Oh, right, this is intense.’”
That stress was the reason Samberg had to leave SNL after seven seasons. Back in July, he talked to Kevin Hart on his Hart to Heart interview show about his struggles working at the late-night institution. “It was a big choice. For me, it was like, I can’t actually endure it anymore. But I didn’t want to leave,” Samberg confessed. “Physically and emotionally, like I was falling apart in my life.”

Andy Samberg said this week his Saturday Night Live return has been fun, but also serves as a reminder for how stressful the on-air sketch show can be.
Samberg, an SNL cast member from 2005 to 2012, returned to the show this fall to play Doug Emhoff, husband of Kamala Harris, during the leadup to the 2024 election.
“It’s been fun, I’ve got to say,” Samberg told fellow SNL alum Seth Meyers on a recent episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast. “It’s been really fun going back, but again, also inheriting, re-inheriting, the stress of it and being like, ‘Oh, right, this is intense.’”
Samberg went on to say that despite the intensity, his current role in the show still feels easier than when he was a cast member. “It’s a little more mellow, me and Maya [Rudolph, who plays Harris] have been talking about [how] it...

Scandal alums Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn were among the first of dozens of celebrities who gathered at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in August to lend their support to Kamala Harris and Tim Walz whether it be through musical performances or hosting or giving speeches. Mindy Kaling, Eva Longoria and of course Oprah lent their star power, as well.

Lady Gaga fans who were wondering what song she would pull out for Kamala Harris’ final rally in Philadelphia Monday night got a song arguably even more glorious than “Edge of Glory” — Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” — to preface the candidate’s speech. But she didn’t let down those who wanted to hear her own inspirational anthem, returning after Harris’ climactic speech to indeed belt out “Edge of Glory” as the clock struck 12 and election day officially arrived.
“For more than half of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice,” Gaga said in introducing “God Bless America” while sitting at the piano. The singer spoke of women during that time who “raised children. We held our families together. We supported men as they made the decisions. But tomorrow, women will be a part of making this decision. Today I am holding in my heart all the tough,...
