Christian Horner, F1 Stalwart and ‘Drive to Survive’ Star, Out as Red Bull Racing Team Principal After 20 Years
Image
Christian Horner is out as CEO and team principal at Red Bull Racing’s Formula One Team, ending a dazzling 20-year run that included several championships – and an unlikely turn as a Netflix star on “Drive to Survive.”

The gritty, cool-headed team boss won eight drivers’ titles and six constructors championships in the world’s most prestigious racing series with Red Bull. He was also an indisputable main character on “Drive to Survive,” the sports docudrama – now with seven seasons in the books – that launched in 2019 and brought F1 to unprecedented popularity in the United States.

Red Bull announced the firing on Wednesday, appointing Laurent Mekies as the new CEO. Mekies had been leading a resurgent Racing Bulls, the Red Bull team’s sister organization.

Still at Red Bull: Max Verstappen, the mercurial four-time F1 champion whose future at the team is also in doubt, as he sits in third...

Christian Horner, Star of Netflix’s F1 Series ‘Drive to Survive,’ Fired as Red Bull Team Principal
Image
Christian Horner, husband of Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and star of Netflix’s wildly popular F1 docuseries Drive to Survive, has been fired from his role as Red Bull team principal effective immediately.

The sacking comes nearly a year and a half after Horner was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behavior by a female employee. An investigation into the claims by the team’s parent company Red Bull GmBH later cleared the Briton.

“Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday. He had been Red Bull’s only team principal since its inception in 2005.

The team, thanks to superstar Dutchman Max Verstappen, have claimed immense success in recent years with various Constructors and Drivers’ Championship titles. They had previously dominated from 2010-2013 when Sebastian Vettel won four back-to-back titles.

Since last season, however, they...

Ahead of its worldwide release on June 27, F1 debuted with a thrilling 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Is F1's Liam Lawson Really Being Replaced By Former Rb Teammate Yuki Tsunoda? Here's What We Know!
Image
Rumors are swirling about Liam Lawson‘s future at the Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team!

The 23-year-old New Zealander has had a rough start to the 2025 F1 season, after crashing in the debut race in Australia, and finishing outside the points in China. Liam has yet to score any points in the first two races, or the sprint race, this year, while his teammate, 4-time world champion Max Verstappen has scored 36.

Liam joined the team after replacing Sergio Perez, who parted ways with Red Bull after an unimpressive second half of 2024. That year, Liam drove for junior team Rb (now Racing Bulls), replacing Daniel Ricciardo, and earned the team four points in six races.

Now, rumors have been going rampant since Melbourne, and there are new reports suggesting Red Bull will replace Liam soon with Racing Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda.

“I’m surprised there’s not more complaints”: Drive to Survive Season 7 Exposed Red Bull’s Unfair Advantage That Only F1 Fans Knew
Image
For the longest time, Netflix has enjoyed a free rein with Drive to Survive. The series on Formula 1 that documents an entire year of Grand Prix in each 10-episode season has often taken liberties with its “content” by manipulating real events for drama. The series only grows bolder in misleading its audience with each season and despite being criticized, stands its ground on the said issue.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive [Credit: Netflix]

Drivers and team principals have time and again called out Netflix and its F1 series for faulty representations and distorted reality. The discrepancy between the actual experience on the track and what is portrayed on the screen makes it difficult to contend with the series, no matter how instrumental Drive to Survive has been in boosting F1’s popularity around the world.

However, there are times when the Netflix series serves its purpose and does right by the...

‘Drive to Survive’ Lost Its Hero With Daniel Ricciardo, but Season 8 May Have the Next Best Thing: “Not scared to screw each other over”
Image
There is a lot to unpack in Drive to Survive. Be it the show’s meticulous approach to fabricating storylines for its own benefit or defending said storylines in a righteously indignant manner, the Netflix docu-series offers an unusual way of looking at the same race from very different perspectives. But the one constant that both Netflix and critics could agree on was everyone’s favorite Aussie: Daniel Ricciardo.

However, now that the Honey Badger has retired, there exists a huge chasm in the space that he once used to fill with his brimming confidence and infectious laughter. While it will be difficult for Drive to Survive to find a fitting replacement within the current lineup of F1 drivers, the series can make a full 180° turn and go for the ultimate villain to fill the vacancy left by the ultimate hero.

‘Drive to Survive’ Season 7 Did No Favor to Its Newest Villain With Geri Halliwell’s Screentime Over Yuki Tsunoda
Image
One can understand the fascination behind an icon like the Spice Girls regularly gracing the Formula 1 paddock with their presence. However, even for Drive to Survive, shifting their focus on Christian Horner’s wife aka Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell is a new low.

After the scandalous events of February 2024 that led to an internal investigation into Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, and almost cleaved the team into two, Netflix is running full steam ahead in contributing to the reparation of Horner’s image. But as expected of the docu-series, the drama always comes at the expense of another.

Image
Do you feel the need for speed? Then boy, do we have the movie for you.

Revving into theaters on June 27, 2025, “F1” features Brad Pitt as retired Formula One driver Sonny Hayes, whose exit from the sport came as a result of a horrific crash. Brought back to train and drive alongside a rookie prodigy (Damson Idris) by his friend and Apex Grand Prix team owner (Javier Bardem), Hayes doesn’t merely want to return to the sport, but upend it entirely.

“F1” comes from much of the same team behind the 2022 Tom Cruise hit “Top Gun: Maverick,” including director Joseph Kosinski, screenwriter Ehren Kruger, composer Hans Zimmer, cinematographer Claudio Miranda, and producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. Pitt also serves as a producer alongside his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Keep reading to find out more…

Now, sources tell ESPN that the six-time race winning driver, is leaving the team following the upcoming 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend. This, of course, has not (yet) been officially announced by the team or Sergio himself.

While Sergio would be out of a race seat, he could still remain in the company but move to a more ambassador-type role, where he would do show runs and...

F1 Manager 2024 Review: Excellence at Every Turn
Image
Formula 1 management sims let us experience the thrills of grid racing from the pit wall. Frontier Developments knows how to immerse us in the sport with authentic details and strategic depth. Their third outing, F1 Manager 2024, builds on earlier successes with meaningful updates while retaining its welcoming atmosphere.

New this year is the ability to forge our own story. We can craft an identity, choose backgrounds that really impact chances, and hire favorites like Nico Hülkenberg or Yuki Tsunoda. Rather than just taking over Red Bull, defining goals and growing from there makes victories sweeter. This freshens the sense of progression from season to season.

Frontier also enhances strategic nuance. A new mentality system relates confidence to performance, so morale impacts race results. Mechanical faults bring on-track drama, and overheating demands careful management. Revised sponsorship depthens commercial consideration. Data piles further fuel thoughtful choices.

Of course, room remains for refinement.

Formula 1: Perez beats Leclerc, Verstappen to victory in action-packed Baku Sprint race
Image
Baku (Azerbaijan), April 29 (Ians) Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez claimed the first Sprint race victory of the season at the Baku City Circuit on Saturday, beating Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen to the chequered flag for the maximum eight points on offer in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023.

With F1’s Sprint format being revised for 2023, a new ‘Shootout’ qualifying session set the grid for the 17-lap dash, which took place in pleasant weather conditions and featured action from start to finish.

One driver who did not take part was F1 rookie Logan Sargeant, who crashed out of the Shootout and was withdrawn from the 100-kilometre Sprint due to the significant damage his Williams car sustained in the incident.

Meanwhile, the grid missed another driver after Alpine made suspension changes on Esteban Ocon’s car under parc ferme conditions, with the team enduring a particularly challenging weekend on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

F1 Drive to Survive review: Toto Wolff rages at Christian Horner in foul-mouthed flashpoint of season 5
Image
Eyes burning and blood boiling, a rattled Toto Wolff inconceivably loses his cool. Sat in a team principals meeting in Montreal, the German hits the ceiling, in a similar vein to his porpoising Mercedes car that is the only topic of conversation. “If a car ends up in the wall because it’s too stiff or it’s bottoming out…” he barks. “You’re in the s*** and I’m going to come after you.”

Evoking memories of 2021’s title duel, Christian Horner hits back – and hard. “You’ve got a problem, change your f****** car,” the Red Bull boss retorts. Cue bedlam from all angles. It is, unquestionably, absorbing television.

It doesn’t take long for Formula 1: Drive to Survive, edition five, to whet the appetite. Halfway through episode two, in fact. Call it what you like: off the rails. Uncut. Box-office. Wolff’s incredible rant is the content every producer craves.

Formula 1: Verstappen leads Russell, Leclerc in second practice in Abu Dhabi
Image
Abu Dhabi, Nov 18 (Ians) Red Bull driver Max Verstappen outpaced the Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the second practice at the Yas Marina Circuit here on Friday.

One of eight drivers to sit out first practice for various ‘rookie’ runs, Verstappen quickly got up to speed in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to produce a benchmark time of 1m 25.146s on the soft compound tyre.

Russell finished three-tenths back after encountering traffic in the final sector of his push lap on the red-marked rubber.

Leclerc was another tenth adrift in third, followed closely by first-practice pace-setter Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz.

Alongside Verstappen and Sainz, there were returns to the cockpit for Lando Norris (McLaren), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Nicholas Latifi (Williams), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Mick Schumacher (Haas) and Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo).

Alonso, wearing a Sebastian Vettel tribute helmet, took eighth, just behind teammate Esteban Ocon,...

Formula 1: Russell leads second practice in Mexico City as Leclerc crashes out
Image
Mexico City, Oct 29 (Ians) George Russell put Mercedes at the top of the timesheets during second practice as Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out in the Mexico City Grand Prix here on Friday.

But it was Russell who led the way with an early lap time of 1m 19.970s on 2022-spec soft tyres, given that the regular drivers who sat out FP1 were permitted to run their own programme for the first half of the session to help them make up for lost time (Russell having handed his car to Nyck de Vries).

Not long after Russell’s pace-setting effort, Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari at the entry to the high-speed Turn 7 and dramatically slid backwards into the barriers on the outside of Turn 8, inflicting significant damage on the car’s rear end and bringing out the red flags.

With Leclerc unharmed, his car cleared away and the barriers repaired,...

Max Verstappen wins action-packed US Grand Prix; Red Bull take constructors' title
Image
Austin (Texas), Oct 24 (Ians) Dutch Formula 1 driver and 2022 champion Max Verstappen emerged victorious at the end of an action-packed United States Grand Prix, fending off Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in a tense finale, while his Red Bull team took their first constructors’ title since 2013.

Verstappen’s record-equalling 13th win of the season, and the squad’s championship triumph, came a day after Red Bull co-founder and owner Dietrich Mateschitz passed away — a fifth F1 constructors’ title.

Having moved into the lead at the start, avoiding the drama behind as Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Mercedes’ George Russell clashed at Turn 1, Verstappen had looked set for a comfortable victory at the circuit, dealing with multiple Safety Car restarts and managing his pace expertly, according to formula1.com.

But a slow final pit stop opened the door for Hamilton and the recovering Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, the reigning world champion having to pass...

Formula 1: Stewards holds on to Singapore win despite a 5-sec post-race penalty for safety car infringement
Image
Singapore, Oct 3 (Ians) Red Bull driver Sergio Perez held on to his victory in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday despite a five-second penalty handed to him following a post-race investigation for an alleged Safety Car infringement.

Perez was investigated for two instances of failing to keep within 10 car lengths of the Safety Car during a pair of caution periods. However, the Mexican driver was handed a reprimand for the first one, which occurred on Lap 10 after Zhou Guanyu and Nicholas Latifi made contact. Perez explained his infringement by claiming that his brakes and tyres hadn’t been warm enough in the damp conditions to keep pace with the Safety Car.

He was, however, handed a five-second penalty and two penalty points on his licence, for the second violation, with the stewards ruling: “Article 55.10 of the Fia Formula 1 Sporting Regulations requires that the leader must keep within 10 car lengths of...

Formula 1: Leclerc takes pole position for the Italian Gp as Verstappen, Sainz suffer grid penalties
Image
Monza (Italy), Sep 10 (Ians) Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc surged to the pole position for the 2022 Italian Grand Prix in a qualifying programme marked by a number of grid penalties that saw defending champion Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz dropped down the grid for various transgressions.

With the Red Bull driver duo of Verstappen and Sainz dropping down the order due to grid penalties as Mercedes’ George Russell jumped to the front of the row.

Leclerc’s time of 1m 20.161s put him on pole by 0.145s over Red Bull’s Verstappen, while Sainz was 0.268s off his teammate in P3. Verstappen has a five-place penalty, however, while Sainz will drop to 18th. While Sergio Perez qualified fourth for Red Bull, he will drop 10 places — with fifth-place qualifier Lewis Hamilton dropped to the back row alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

Therefore, Russell will start second despite qualifying sixth. McLaren’s Lando Norris qualified...
