For Werner Herzog, cinema is an active art, participatory one in which the creation of a work requires the practitioner to actually live (or have already lived) it, as if truth comes most compellingly from an artist’s firsthand experience with their subject matter. Herzog’s fiction films are intrinsically linked to his documentaries in that, in both cases, the German auteur is often not simply the storyteller but, also, a willing and essential participant, his presence fundamentally, messily tangled up in the final product.
So it goes with Aguirre, The Wrath of God, Herzog’s 1972 tale about an expedition of Spanish conquistadors through Peru’s jungles and down the treacherous Huallaga river. A saga of adventurers—led by Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski)—driven headlong into annihilation by their hubris and desire for immortality, it’s the first of Herzog’s many features in which his (anti-)heroes...

John Wayne and Robert Mitchum were two of the biggest Western stars of their day, and their eventual team-up in El Dorado was worth the surprisingly long wait. There exists an unofficial Rio Bravo trilogy, with director Howard Hawks and leading man John Wayne making the same movie three times. Rio Bravo is the original and most acclaimed, where Wayne's Sheriff has only a drunken deputy and a cocky young gunfighter to rely on while defending his besieged jailhouse. The film is a classic, with both John Carpenter and Quentin Tarantino labeling it one of their favorites.
Rio Bravo was Wayne's retort to High Noon, with the star detesting the politics of that 1952 Western. Hawks and Wayne liked the basic premise of Rio Bravo so much that they remixed its characters and themes twice more with El Dorado and Rio Lobo. The latter proved to be Hawks' final film, and...

The following contains spoilers for Season 4, Part 1 of Outer Banks, now streaming on Netflix.
When Outer Banks Season 4, Part 1 was announced, fans were eager to see how the new treasure hunt would unfold. The previous seasons focused heavily on John B and his father, Big John, trying to find El Dorado (aka the Lost City of Gold) to prove the Routledge dynasty was right. The other characters in John B's crew -- the Pogues -- were mostly backup in this journey.
The fourth season of the popular Netflix series actually gives more depth to the others. One of them is John B's best friend and proverbial brother, JJ. All series long, JJ is that impetuous, impulsive yet fiercely loyal friend who gets John B into trouble. But the newest slate of episodes gives JJ his own family dilemma by revealing who his biological father is. It comes with a major...

Outer Banks revolves around a group of Pogues living in the Outer Banks, led by John B, and although they're young in the show, all the actors who play the main characters are older than their fictional counterparts in season 4. Some stars were around the same age as their characters when Outer Banks first premiered in April 2020. However, the timeline in the Netflix action-adventure mystery teen drama doesn't adhere to the one in real life. For example, even though season 2 dropped one year after season 1, only days passed by in the world of Outer Banks.
Production on Outer Banks season 4 started in June 2023 and didn't wrap until June 2024 due to work stoppages related to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
As a result, most of the Outer Banks cast are several years older than their characters. The 18-month time jump at the end of the season 3 finale certainly helped some stars get...

Warning: the following contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4, part 1.
Outer Banks season 4 introduces a character that can unlock the worst the show has seen of Topper yet. The new season follows up on John B, Sarah, Pope, JJ, Kiara, and Cleo after they found El Dorado at the end of Outer Banks season 3. Now the team is back on another hunt, searching for Blackbeard's treasure. Like in past seasons, the quest for the treasure is front and center, giving the Outer Banks characters plenty of dangers to overcome. However, adding an extra layer of difficulty is the unrelenting battle between Kooks and Pogues, representing a bigger threat than ever.
Outer Banks season 4 part 1 takes the show back to its earlier seasons, where violence against the Pogues was often taken to the extreme. Season 3 saw Topper (Austin North) become borderline murderous after Sarah (Madelyn Cline) led him on to get...

Outer Banks season 4, part 1 saw the death of a man on the beach, who bore a unique trident tattoo. As JJ Maybank, Kiara Carrera, John B. Routledge, Sarah Cameron, Pope Heyward, and Cleo Anderson of the Pogues find themselves caught in the crossfire of yet another mystery, they are met with dangerous opposition. This season of Outer Banks sees the group's main enemy as Lightner (Rigo Sanchez) and a group of mercenaries also after Blackbeard's Blue Crown and the amulet, but their backstory remains unclear ahead of the second half of the season.
Each season of Outer Banks finds the working-class North Carolina Pogues in a treasure-hunting mystery. Entering season 4 riding the high of finding El Dorado and purchasing JJ's childhood home with their newfound wealth, the group is approached by the wealthy Wes Genrette (David Jensen). Jason Statham's first action role was in Ghosts of Mars, which was itself a stealth remake of a John Wayne Western. Released in 2001, Ghosts of Mars marked the final John Carpenter movie for a decade, with the legendary filmmaker taking a long break after feeling burnt out with the industry. The film itself is a fusion of sci-fi, action and horror, with a dash of Western thrown into the pot. Ghosts of Mars was also one of a run of films set on Mars during this period, including Val Kilmer's Red Planet and Mission to Mars.
The movie feels like a mixtape of Carpenter's previous work; Ghosts of Mars takes the cop shop setting of Assault on Precinct 13, the paranoia of The Thing with a main character who feels very much like Kurt Russell's Snake Plissken. There was even a debunked rumor Ghosts of Mars was almost the third Escape From.

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4, part 1.
Outer Banks season 4, part 1 introduces many new characters, like Larissa Genrette, who is never physically seen (outside of her portrait) but still significantly impacts the story. Season 4 jumps ahead 18 months after the events of the Outer Banks season 3 finale, aka when the Pogues found El Dorado. The six teens John B, Sarah, Pope, Kiara, JJ, and Cleo use their newfound fortune to build a business and a home for themselves. Unfortunately, their happiness (and riches) doesn't last forever, and they return to treasure hunting to make ends meet, which is where the Genrettes come in.
As teased during the flashforward in the Outer Banks season 3 finale, a man named Wes Genrette approaches the Pogues with a proposition to find Blackbeard's treasure. They ultimately take the old man up on his offer to acquire the amulet in exchange for $50,000. However,...

Why are the Pogues Suddenly Poor in Outer Banks Season 4?
As much as the Pogues managed to grab ahold of the El Dorado gold in Outer Banks season 3, the fourth season doesn't treat John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo as kindly.
Remember the $1.1 million they grabbed ahold of before El Dorado exploded? The group used the money to open their own bait, tackle, and charter tour shop on the very land they bought.

American lawman Wyatt Earp has become a legendary Western folk hero in film, television, and literature. Throughout the 1870s, Earp worked as a lawman in various cities such as Wichita, Dodge City, and Deadwood. In 1879, Earp moved to Tombstone, where he soon became involved in a conflict with a group of outlaws known as the Cochise County Cowboys. The conflict climaxed with the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which saw Earp, his brothers Morgan and Virgil, and Doc Holliday face off against five members of the Cochise County Cowboys.
Due in part to Earp's own exaggerations about his life and the fictitious nature of Stuart N. Film and television have aided in transforming Earp's life into a mythological existence rather than a factual one. My Darling Clementine, Winchester '73, and Tombstone...

One of the all-time most venerated Hollywood directors, Howard Hawks was a master at making movies in every genre under the sun. Whether helming the classic gangster film Scarface, the iconic musical Gentleman Prefer Blondes, the landmark film noir The Big Sleep, or the influential screwball comedy Bringing Up Baby, Hawks had a preternatural understanding of telling stories on the big screen. Of course, his biggest cinematic contributions may reside in the Western film genre.
After making Red River with John Wayne in 1948, Hawks continued working with The Duke throughout their careers. Yet, the glaring similarities between the 1959 Western Rio Bravo and the 1966 Western El Dorado have raised the question among cinephiles are the two movies the same? Did Hawks and Wayne deliberately remake their previous movie or were the story parallels coincidental? To find answers, a side-by-side comparison between them bears closer attention.

“Outer Banks” is about to embark on its biggest adventure to date: finding Blackbeard’s treasure. And Netflix has shared a first teaser and several first look images to celebrate the occasion.
The fourth season of the Netflix original will premiere its first five episodes on Oct. 10 followed by five more episodes on Nov. 7.
Season 3 ended with a flash-forward 18 months into the future that showed the Pogues being commended for finding El Dorado, the lost city of gold. In that season’s final moments, a man approached the friends and asked them if they would be interested in finding the lost treasure of Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard. But Season 4 will start before the tempting offer. Watch the first teaser below.
After El Dorado, John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) return to North Carolina and try to settle into a “normal” life.

The Harder They Fall is a bold re-imagining of classic Westerns with unique and stylized visuals. Unlike traditional Westerns, The Harder They Fall provides innovative action sequences and explosive violence unseen in traditional Westerns. The Harder They Fall spotlights marginalized characters, showcasing new a perspective on a classic genre.
Westerns used to be the biggest film genre in the world. 20th-century audiences were obsessed with archetypal gunslingers and their masculine pursuits of justice, and over several decades, the genre developed into one of the richest in cinema history. Many talented storytellers got their start tackling the mythology of the great frontier, including Sergio Leone and John Ford. However, recently the genre has grown stagnant, as quality Westerns have become all too rare in the modern age.

It's kind of strange to think that Western icon John Wayne and Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford had overlapping careers. Ford began his road to stardom in the mid-1960s around the same time that the Duke starred in pictures like McLintock! and El Dorado, but didn't receive much notoriety until the late-1970s with Star Wars. By then, Wayne's career was winding down, and the Duke eventually left Hollywood behind. But there was one picture that Wayne was meant to have starred in in the summer of 1979, a Western called The Frisco Kid. Only Ford took the role for himself. Here's how it happened.

Season 4 of Outer Banks will focus on the Pogues' hunt for Captain Blackbeard's treasure, keeping them in the Outer Banks. Previous seasons received criticism for taking the Pogues away from their hometown, but season 4 will bring them back. Returning to the North Carolina coast is crucial for the success of season 4 and to honor the show's original premise.
The Pogues are critical to the success of Outer Banks, and it seems as if the upcoming storyline in season 4 will right the wrongs of past seasons regarding how they handled the group of friends. The Netflix action-adventure mystery teen drama series, created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, premiered in 2020. It was an immediate hit among audiences, partly thanks to the main characters (the Pogues) and their dynamics. Of course, the treasure-hunting aspect of the television show is intriguing, but the characters and their relationships are undoubtedly what makes the series succeed.

Months after removing the film from its production schedule, the Spider-Man spin-off film from Sony – El Muerto – is not yet down and out.
Professional wrestling is basically built on the entertaining sequence of a performer seemingly being out for the count until the referee is just about to count to three.
You all know what happens next: they miraculously lift a shoulder, the bout goes on and the fans go wild. It’s an unending loop that has sustained pro wrestling for a century and making it so popular that Netflix recently shelled out $5bn for rights to WWE’s flagship Raw programme. That signalled a downgrade in its film division in favour of brightly-coloured spandex and theatrical entrances.
In short, pro wrestling is a potential goldmine and one that Sony seems intent on exploring with El Muerto, a Spider-Man spin-off film that we all thought the studio had abandoned.

'El Muerto' is reportedly back in development without Bad Bunny.Sony is said to have quietly resumed work on the upcoming comic book blockbuster - which follows the story of a superman luchador - but the musician and occasional WWE superstar won't be playing the masked wrestling hero.As reported by Variety, script revisions and Bad Bunny's tour dates mean the movie is in development without its former leading man. There had been delays due to the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood, which meant the film lost its place in the release calendar.Last year, Bunny - whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - was asked about the status of the film, and described the situation as "delicate" to Vanity Fair.He added: "I don't know what to say."A publicist later told the outlet he was no longer on board with the project.
