Ian Morrison

Edit

Biography

    • In 1996, Ian Morrison was busy trying to become a stand up comic in Philadelphia. Due to his comedic audition, Ian was cast in a production of "The Not-So Brady Bunch" as Alice the housekeeper. On closing night, Ian donned his Alice costume for the last time, and brought the "Brady" cast to go see the drag contest at the 12th Air Command. Ian was pulled out of the audience by the host who asked Ian to perform-and right there Ian's drag persona of Brittany Lynn was born. As Brittany, Ian took over Philly by storm, performing, hosting, and producing events at every venue in town-both gay and straight-and landed shows in Atlantic City, Asbury Park, New York City, and beyond. Ian became a club kid staple at NYC's Kurfew at the Limelight, while Atlantic City Weekly named him, "Casinoville's favorite drag queen", and his show at Studio Six was always listed in the "Top 7 Things to Do in A.C."-especially after winning the coveted Miss'D America Crown. Ian was then hired by DennioProductions as a permanent performer and host at Shampoo Nightclub-his First Friday's Drag Mafia show remains a part of drag history as Philadelphia's most attended drag show ever, and lasted close to a decade. As Brittany, Ian is still at the top of his game, producing events for various charity groups and has been awarded the Community Hero Award from the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund, with the largest amount of nominations in DVLF history. As Brittany, Ian can be seen every year leading Philly's biggest parade-the Mummers New Years Day Parade-with his all LGBTQIA+ troupe, the Miss Fancy Brigade. For his efforts in bringing drag back to the Mummers Day Parade, Ian was cited by Philadelphia's City Council and awarded his own day -March 15- by Philadelphia's City Council and the city's Mayor. His continuous work in bringing drag and LGBTQIA+ culture to mainstream communities has won him numerous awards and recognition from various organizations-both gay and hetero-normative-and remains the focus of his work. In 2016, Ian created his own Drag Queen Story Time program throughout the Philadelphia area with the Philadelphia Library System, its local museums, and in Philadelphia schools. Ian was named "Community Builder of the Year" from Philadelphia Family Magazine for his efforts in using Drag Queen Story Time to educate families all over Philadelphia and beyond. You can catch Ian performing as Brittany in his live singing, comedy cabaret at venues and casinos throughout Philly, Atlantic city, and stages all over the area. Ian will be the featured drag queen in the upcoming short, Parrot.
