Horror films and sorority houses are a combination that go back at least as far as 1957’s Blood of Dracula and 1961’s Werewolf in a Girls’ Dormitory, the 70s gave us the classic original versions of Black Christmas and Suspiria, along with the memorable made for TV flick The Initiation of Sarah.
But it was the slasher boom of the 80s that it blossomed with films like Sorority House Massacre, The House on Sorority Row and The Initiation. Since then we’ve had multiple remakes of Black Christmas and House on Sorority Row as well as new films such as Die Die Delta Pi, Slotherhouse and now Night of the Dead Sorority Babes.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
After a brief detour to cover off Geno McGahee’s Amityville: The Final Chapter aka Sickle, we’re back in 2023 with writer/director Bobby Canipe Jr’s Amityville Ripper. Based on the title and the premise, you’d be forgiven for misconstruing this as a tired attempt to force a slasher narrative in an Amityville film, which would be (partially) accurate if it weren’t for the film’s extremely meta approach.
For the first act or so, Canipe Jr’s film plays like a somewhat poorly executed indie film. The characterizations are weak, the premise is paper thin and it feels like subplots are going nowhere. Then, around the 25 minute mark, two characters break the fourth wall to confirm the name...

Gorgeous sorority babes get initiated by two villainous entities, will any pledges survive? Party ’til you drop … dead!

Stars: Connor Flynn, Bailey Herrington, Ash Hamilton, Dan Grogan, Hunter Nino, Anna Clary, Michael Rock | Written and Directed by Joshua Brucker
The Woodmen is the new film from Joshua Brucker whose previous work includes Mothman and the “The Illinois Valley Murder Tapes” segment of Split Screen. Like them, The Woodmen is a found footage film, beginning with a series of title cards telling us that the government is covering up disappearances and deaths in the National Parks. And that two of those missing people are Connor Flynn and Lana Haywood.
Ash Hamilton (Holes in the Sky: The Sean Miller Story) plays himself hosting a podcast that introduces the footage, which starts with Connor going on about hybrid species, coverups, a cave that leads to Middle Earth and Green Berets wiping out everyone in a national park. They make the mistake of staying in the woods after dark and deciding to...

Mutilator 2, writer/director Buddy Cooper’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1984 slasher The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), is ready to make its way out into the world. The movie even screened at Joe Bob Briggs’ latest drive-in Jamboree event back in October, and received an “audience favorite” award there. And yet it still hasn’t secured a distribution deal. Cooper confirmed this on Facebook, where he wrote, “We are still searching for distribution. It might help if a few fans asked their favorite streaming service or theater when they would be showing Mutilator 2. If enough people show an interest, I feel like a distributor would be willing to help get it out to everyone.“
The fact that Shudder hasn’t swooped in to release this as a Shudder Original is shocking, given that they’ve not only had The Mutilator on their streaming service, but even had...

Fangoria has unveiled the trailer for Mutilator 2, writer/director Buddy Cooper’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1984 slasher The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), and you can check it out in the embed above! It was previously announced that The Mutilator cast members Ruth Martinez and Bill Hitchcock would be returning for Mutilator 2, despite the fact that Hitchcock’s character died in the first movie, and now the trailer has revealed how that’s possible: this sequel is taking a meta approach! Much like New Nightmare or the Town That Dreaded Sundown update, Mutilator 2 is set in a world where the first film was just a movie. But now someone is bringing the slashing of The Mutilator to life.
The original The Mutilator (a.k.a. Fall Break) had the following synopsis:
Years after the accidental death of his wife, a deranged man starts to slice and dice his son...

Thirty-eight years after gifting the world a really cool slasher called The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), writer/director Buddy Cooper has finally gotten around to making a sequel to the film… and over the weekend, he took to social media to unveil the first official poster for Mutilator 2! You can take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
Cooper notes that “the woman bound to the nasty looking piling” on the Mutilator 2 poster is Olivia, played by Eva Hamilton of Death Kiss. Producer Jeff Seemann added that “the ocean water was in the 40s when Eva stepped into it for this scene.” So it definitely sounds like it’s a moment worth promoting on the poster.
