Trivia

Phil Taylor

Edit
  • Married to Yvonne with 4 children and 1 grandchild.
  • Nicknamed "The Power" for his phenomenal scoring accuracy and ability to hit high checkouts, he remains the only player who consistently achieves a mean three-dart average in excess of 100 during televised tournament play.
  • On 1 August 2002, he hit a perfect nine-dart leg of 501 darts (seven consecutive treble 20s, followed by treble 19 and double 12), during a live televised encounter at the PDC World Matchplay Championships in Blackpool, Lancashire. This earned him a £100,000 pay bonanza and a place in the annuls of darts' history as only the third player ever to achieve this feat on television (the others being John Lowe [1984] and Paul Lim [1991])and the first man to hit the nine-darter during a live satellite broadcast.
  • In January 2003, he was sensationally defeated by Canadian John Part in the final of the PDC world professional darts championship at England's Circus Tavern, Purfleet, ending his eight-year run of successive world title wins.
  • He was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to sports in the 2000 Queen's New Years Honors List.
  • His M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire) was annulled in May 2002 upon his conviction of assaulting two female fans.
  • Is now a regular contributor to the pages of "Darts World" magazine.
  • By 2002, he had won the world professional darts crown on 10 occasions, making him the game's all-time greatest exponent. His other notable achievements include 5 World Matchplay titles, 1997 News of the World champion, and winner of the inaugural Las Vegas Desert Classic (2002) - the first major televised tournament to be staged outside the UK.
  • Father of Lisa Taylor; Chris Taylor; Kelly Taylor; and Natalie Taylor.
