Looking to replicate the present-day Halloween franchise's (albeit mixed) success, Universal and Blumhouse splashed out $400 million on the rights to The Exorcist and let David Gordon Green loose on what was planned as a new trilogy. But then the results for The Exorcist: Believer were more financially and critically horrifying than the film was scary, and Green opted to move on to pastures new. Still intent on making at least one more movie, the studio and production company have now turned to someone who has plenty of experience bringing successful scares to screens: Mike Flanagan.

Isabela Merceds New Movie Is A Reminder To Watch Her Previous John Green Adaptation From 5 Years Ago
Isabela Merced shines in Turtles All the Way Down, her second John Green adaptation after Let It Snow. Both Turtles All the Way Down and Let It Snow received high critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and audiences alike. Turtles All the Way Down is the most well-received John Green adaptation, while Paper Towns remains the weakest.
While Isabela Merced's powerful performance in Turtles All the Way Down elevates the film, the movie also isn't the first time she's starred in a John Green book-to-screen adaptation. Penned by Green, the bestselling Turtles All the Way Down centers on Merced's Aza Holmes, a teenager living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd). More often than not, Aza obsesses over the idea of the human microbiome and other unseen organisms, which leads to intrusive thoughts about C. diff and other life-threatening diagnoses. However, managing her Ocd becomes complicated when Aza reunites with former pal...

The new week begins, and with it comes new Connections to solve. Today was a fairly quick win for us as many of the categories fell into things that we knew. There is one that may be a bit niche for some players, but if you grew up around witches like we did, it should be an easy one to add to the win column.
One of the best tips we can give you for any game of Connections is to take your time. There is no timer in this game so running through quickly can easily lose you the game. When you think you have a match of words, take a second and try to solve what the category would be before hitting Submit. This simple trick can help you save your mistakes for when you truly might need them.

The Boom! Studios Power Rangers comics are a breath of fresh air for long-term fans. While the franchise has been long-established as a series meant for all ages, fans have been clamoring for a "darker" taker on the universe for years. The Boom! Studios comics offer that. Unfortunately, Power Rangers has a somewhat confusing multiverse, and the comics often have loose canonicity with the TV series. Most of the series' biggest events have happened in slightly different ways. However, this hasn't stopped many comics from being connected to the TV show.
The Boom! comics Power Rangers series have lots of connections to the TV show they are based on. The main book, Mighty Morphin, features the characters and powers from the original seasons of the show. However, plenty of one-shots, graphic novels, and story arcs have expanded beyond the series' earliest days. The comics' connections to the TV series can vary wildly.

Turtles All the Way Down earns the highest critical score for any John Green adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the movie for its authentic Ocd portrayal, a delightful coming-of-age story, and a standout performance by Isabela Merced. Some critics noted tonal imbalance with the love story and mystery.
Max's Turtles All the Way Down earns the highest critical Rotten Tomatoes score of any TV show or film adapted from John Green's books. The new movie is based on Green's 2017 novel of the same name, which follows Aza Holmes (Isabela Merced), a 16-year-old struggling to navigate high school and relationships while living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd). The novel is often considered one of Green's best works, given how it raises awareness of mental health disorders with its authentic depiction of anxiety and Ocd. Hence, many readers wondered how the film adaptation would compare to the acclaimed novel.

The next Exorcist movie may have found its director. Filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who is best known for his work in the horror genre, is in talks to helm The Exorcist: Deceiver for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
Per Deadline, Flanagan would be stepping in for David Gordon Green, who exited Deceiver back in January. The sequel to 2023's The Exorcist: Believer was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Apr. 18, 2025, but was removed from Universal's release schedule when Green stepped down from the project. At this time, it's unclear if Flanagan's deal would also include an option to direct the final installment in Universal and Blumhouse's Exorcist reboot trilogy, which was first reported back in July 2021.

It seems that a new The Exorcist movie is in the works and no, Russell Crowe is not attached to play the priest who will be doing the exorcising in the movie. But, the upcoming Blumhouse and Universal horror film has seemingly found its director after David Gordon Green, who directed last year’s reboot film The Exorcist: Believer, left the project altogether. As things stand now, renowned genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan is in talks to direct the next Exorcist movie, and based on his earlier work, this might be a hit for the two studios.
Not much is known about the project, as it is still in the early production phases, but we know that the two companies plan to make two additional films, completing the sequel (reboot) trilogy. In fact, Green’s The Exorcist: Deceiver was supposed to come out on April 18, 2025, but after Green’s exit, the movie was postponed indefinitely.

Recent comments from producer Jason Blum suggested that a retool was in order when last years The Exorcist: Believer wasnt as successful as Blumhouse and Universal hoped. That certainly seems to be the case, as Deadline is reporting that Mike Flanagan is in talks to direct the next Exorcist movie. Director David Gordon Green was initially on board to direct an entire trilogy of new movies in the franchise, with The Exorcist: Believer intended to be only the first film in that three-film sequel series. Originally set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, The Exorcist: Deceiver was delayed when Green left the project. If talks come to fruition, Flanagan will take over, likely steering the franchise in a new direction.

One of last fall’s biggest flops was David Gordon Greene’s limp attempt to revive the “Exorcist” franchise for Blumhouse and Universal. “The Exorcist: Believer” was met with intense pans and a worldwide gross of $137 million. That number may not sound so bad at first until you remember that the rights to the franchise alone cost $400 million. While there have been several sequels (plus a double-prequel) to “The Exorcist” since the groundbreaking original that won Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound (plus seven other nominations including Best Picture), this was the first one to bring Ellen Burstyn back into the world of ancient evils and demonic possession.
Green’s departure from the series was announced in January, and current horror mainstay Mike Flanagan is looking like he will step in, as per a report in Deadline.

Turtles All The Way Down, adapted from John Green’s best-selling novel, is finally coming to UK TV screens this month.
John Green’s book The Fault In Our Stars and its film adaptation was a huge teen phenomenon and, in all honesty, it broke my heart too at the ripe age of 23. Green’s other books, Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska have also since been adapted for screens big and small.

(You can read our 4/10 review Here.) The box office numbers were okay, the movie pulled in $137 million on a $30 million budget, but Universal was hoping for a lot better than “okay,” and viewer reactions were largely negative. Soon after the release of Believer, we heard that Universal and Blumhouse still intended to carry out the trilogy, but the follow-ups would be reworked – and Green had left the project. Now it...

Renowned genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan (The Life of Chuck) is in talks to direct the next Exorcist film for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Uni and Blumhouse declined comment. Should a deal make, Flanagan would take over the reins from David Gordon Green, who exited the rebooted franchise back in January. Universal and Blumhouse bought rights to The Exorcist from Morgan Creek back in July 2021 for $400M, and while the plan at that point was for at least three new films to be made, it’s unclear whether Flanagan would be on for more than one.
Starring Leslie Odom Jr. as well as franchise veteran Ellen Burstyn, trilogy launcher The Exorcist: Believer fell beneath expectations when it opened to a soft $26.4M domestic last October, going on to gross $65.5M U.S./Canada, $136.2M WW.

Romantic drama "Turtles All the Way Down" brings to life Aza Holmes' struggle with Ocd and budding romance. Isabela Merced shines as Aza, with Cree Cicchino's Daisy adding heart to the film's coming-of-age story. The film explores themes of love, friendship, and mental health, offering a compelling and emotional journey.
Directed by Hannah Marks (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency), Turtles All the Way Down adapts John Green's bestselling 2017 young adult novel of the same name. Like Green's other works, which include books-turned-movies like The Fault in Our Stars, Turtles All the Way Down is a romantic drama. Both the film and novel center on Aza Holmes, a 16-year-old character who is still learning to live with obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd). In particular, Aza finds it difficult to navigate her obsessive thinking inescapable thought spirals that are often triggered by thoughts of microorganisms or germs.

Since his first novel released in 2005, author John Green has demonstrated a passion for making teenagers feel seen and valued for all of their complexities. Never underestimating their intelligence, Green has been penning philosophical, wildly eloquent youths for nearly twenty years, and Turtles All the Way Down is but his latest successful YA novel and latest batch of loveable teens to be adapted for the silver screen. Helmed beautifully by director Hannah Marks and rewritten for the screen by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker, Turtles All the Way Down explores one teen's (Isabela Merced) experience navigating high school with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (Ocd). As she tries to forge her own path while wrestling with her fears of the world around her, Aza learns that while her illness will always be a part of her, the love that her friends and family have for her is just as enduring.

“Turtles All the Way Down” was always going to be a tricky movie to get right. Based on a popular, well-reviewed 2017 book of the same name by YA maestro John Green, the story follows Aza (Isabela Merced) a girl with sometimes-crippling Ocd — in addition to regular Being a Teen problems. It’s a beautiful story, but not one that necessarily screams blockbuster.
Green himself — who oversaw adaptions of his work like “Paper Towns” and “Looking for Alaska” and serves as an EP on “Turtles” — was hesitant about selling the rights to adapt it, he recalled to IndieWire.
“It was hard for me to imagine that a good movie could be made from the book,” Green said. “Also, Hollywood has a long history of depicting Ocd terribly. But because the producers were people I had such confidence in, I felt like we could at least give it a shot.”
Also helping his confidence?...

Warning! Contains spoilers for Green Arrow #11!
Green Arrow's origins are intertwined with his greatest enemy, Malcolm Merlyn. Merlyn trained Oliver Queen in archery, leading to a deep-seated rivalry. Merlyn's desire to pass on his legacy to Ollie adds new depth to their ongoing conflict.
Green Arrow is one of the greatest archers in the DC Universe, and it seems that DC just revealed a major link between his years of archery training and his greatest enemy. While Malcolm Merlyn has always been one of Oliver's biggest rivals, it seems that once upon a time, Merlyn was also one of Oliver's first teachers.
The surprising history between Green Arrow and Merlyn is revealed in Green Arrow #11 by Joshua Williamson, Sean Izaakse, and Phil Hester. This story reveals that Merlyn had a major hand in teaching Oliver Queen about archery after Ollie returned from Starfish Island. This completely recontextualizes the rivalry...

Turtles All the Way Down tackles Ocd creatively and respectfully. The film's relationships lack depth, but Aza's friendship with Daisy stands out. Isabela Merced shines in the film, portraying Aza's struggles with sincerity.
Ten years ago, John Green's The Fault in Our Stars was both a literary and box office sensation, sparking a wave of film and television projects inspired by the author's books. The fervor surrounding the author has calmed over the years, but there's still interest in Green's take on coming-of-age stories, which brings us to Max's new adaptation of Turtles All the Way Down. Based on his 2017 book of the same name, the Hannah Marks-directed movie arrives with far less fanfare than The Fault in Our Stars did, but I wouldn't discount it entirely.

The national tour of ‘Clue: A New Comedy’ remixes the classic murder mystery with farcical physical comedy and impassioned old-fashioned sensibilities.
“It’s all part of the game.”
There’s a strong relationship between mischievous murder mysteries and the horror genre. Murder mysteries inherently hinge upon death – it’s baked into the name – so it’s not surprising that horror has embraced this secretive subgenre and really emphasized the murder in murder mysteries. Murder mysteries have been popular in pop culture for nearly a century. However, there’s been a recent renaissance on this front with playful films like Knives Out, A Haunting in Venice, Bodies Bodies Bodies, the Scream franchise, and the prominence of the true-crime genre and armchair detectives. That being said, an underrated and evergreen source of murder mystery hijinks that’s entertained audiences for 75 years is Hasbro and Parker Brothers’ Clue.

The X-Men have finally come back home to the MCU after the acquisition of Fox Studios by Disney. The characters will be making their official MCU debut with the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, which sees Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and a whole bunch of other actors crossing over to the franchise.
The MCU has also reportedly begun work on making an X-Men film. An industry insider recently reported that the studio was looking for writers who could balance comedy and drama. The report also mentioned that the new films would focus more on the female mutants. While previous female-centered Marvel films have not worked for the franchise, it might just be the best foot forward with the X-Men.

Seth Green will return as Mitch Miller in That '90s Show season 2, and his appearance sets up another cameo. Mitch's return hinges on Eric showing up, ensuring a hilarious reunion between the two rivals. The spinoff could brilliantly repeat a That '70s Show episode with Eric and Mitch as grown-ups this time around.
An original star from That '70s Show is reprising their role for That '90s Show season 2, but the actor's return can't work without another huge cameo. That '90s Show made its debut in January 2023, picking up 15 years after the original series and following Eric and Donna's daughter, Leia, as she spends the summer at Point Place. That '90s Show season 2 promises to continue her adventures at her grandparents' house when it debuts this summer. And while a couple notable That '70s Show stars won't appear in the coming episodes, one unexpected original actor is making a comeback.

Reminiscing about the glory days of youth? Don’t. Bestselling author John Green — whose work has spawned a legion of big- and small-screen adaptations — certainly doesn’t. In Green’s stories, teenagehood is hard enough (and then some) as his beloved characters go through puberty, prom, and first love in tandem with far bigger worries ranging from cancer to obsessive compulsive disorder. People go missing, people aren’t ever found, people die.
It’s not exactly the stuff of popcorn entertainment, but Green’s stories always place a premium on the viewpoint of the kids who experience them and the youngsters who observe them. Being a teenager? It’s not for the faint of heart. Being a Green teen? Well, at least someone is treating you like an adult.
The latest Green adaptation, “Turtles All the Way Down,” offers yet another sterling example of that mindset and the power of it.

Two things are certain. The My Hero Academia manga and anime successfully adapted the superhero formula from Western comics and created a truly brilliant Japanese superhero work. In the West, The Boys comic book and series successfully inverted the superhero genre and created a brilliant series that showed us the dark side of superheroism. Now, it seems that we have also gotten an anime answer to The Boys, as the Go! Go! Loser Ranger! anime is slowly becoming a hit of the Spring 2024 anime season.
The series premiered on April 7, 2024, and can be seen on Disney+ and Hulu in the West. Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is not as violent as The Boys, but it brings us an interesting story and we think that it is definitely worth your time.

Young Justice, ever since it first started airing on television, was hailed for its expansive worldbuilding, and for the inclusion of diverse stories across a range of characters that pulled from every aspect of the DC Universe. Continuing that tradition, it seems that Young Justice has added yet another corner of the universe into its canon, one that belongs to a shortlived CG series, belonging to one of DC’s most powerful heroes.

Director David Gordon Green explains how he got Bob Odenkirk's cameo in Halloween Kills through a creative Google search. Odenkirk's cameo pays tribute to the original Halloween film and adds an Easter egg for eagle-eyed viewers to spot. Despite mixed reviews, the Halloween Kills cameo adds a fun element to the film and showcases Green's appreciation for the series.
Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green explains how his film's Bob Odenkirk cameo came to be. Green and co-writer Danny McBride revived the long-running slasher franchise with 2018's Halloween, a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 original that established a whole new chronology for the Halloween movies. He followed this up with Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends in 2022. Halloween Kills picks up right where the previous film left off and the tease that Michael remained alive at the end of the first is confirmed with the bloody path he carves through the second.

Netflix has won the streaming wars, but of course, that doesn't mean it's perfect. One of the popular dings against the streamer is that many of its original productions share a similar flattened, brightly lit aesthetic -- a "Netflix look" that, fairly or not, can sometimes seem like an edict passed on to storytellers from the top down to make their shows and movies look a certain way. Naturally, this doesn't apply to every show, but if you watch enough of them, you'll start to see patterns emerge.
Thankfully, Steven Zaillian's "Ripley," a new take on Patricia Highsmith's famous con man story, is about as far from that typical "Netflix look" as you can get. Legendary cinematographer Robert Elswit imbues this show with a palpable style and personality, constantly playing with light and shadow and delivering spectacular results.

Going to the theater is different from it used to be. Back in my day, going to the cinema meant purchasing an overpriced ticket and concessions, then experiencing a film alongside a group of strangers in silence with occasional outbursts of laughter or surprise. Today, boutique theaters double as restaurants for outrageously priced pub-style food, with beer, wine, and cocktails to get you sauced for the evening’s feature presentation. Some people enjoy this kind of atmosphere. However, Danny McBride thinks serving food and drinks in cinemas is absurd, and he has an idea about improving the theater-going experience – marijuana!

Danny McBride has a bone to pick with movie theaters. With the popularization of theaters that now serve dinner and drinks in the middle of a movie, the “Eastbound & Down” and “Pineapple Express” comedian recently told GQ magazine that he is staunchly against the trend.
“I hate it, I can’t stand it,” McBride said while addressing the theaters-that-serves-dinner trend. “I also don’t think it makes sense to combine booze with movies. You’re going to have to piss. Doesn’t alcohol make you want to get up and get loose? You don’t want to sit there, drink beer, and just be quiet. I would have no interest in going to see a movie and just pounding IPAs. A better idea, according to McBride, would-be movie theaters that offer marijuana and allow patrons to smoke pot. Movies and weed “go together fucking perfectly,” he said.

When she reconnects with Davis, her childhood crush, Aza is confronted with fundamental questions about her potential for love, happiness, friendship, and hope.”
