Nisha Kalra is a writer, actor, comic, arts-based facilitator, opinion-haver and everywhere-but-bathroom-singer.
Nisha is a credited writer on Netflix's Bhaag Beanie Bhaag, created by Ravi Patel, featuring Swara Bhaskar as the lead. She co-wrote a dramedy feature film for Tanmay Bhat at India's most reputed comedy collective, AIB, and has co-written various unreleased dramedy web shows with Dharma, Abbas Tyrewala, Endemol India, etc. She has also written branded content for Spotify, Amazon Prime Video, CRED, Bumble, Nykaa, among others. She was one of ten students selected to train at AIB First Draft, India's first screenwriting residency training program led by award-winning filmmaker Satyanshu Singh. Her journey began with assisting Nikkhil Advani at Emmay Entertainment, under whose guidance she unlocked her potential and immersed herself in the craft of mainstream filmmaking.
Being a determinedly socially conscious creator, Nisha has worked extensively with Breakthrough Trust and Yuvaa, using pop culture to make gender sensitivity fun and mainstream. With Breakthrough, she has co-developed the IP 'Fursat Mein Serious Baatein', enabling comfy, introspective conversations on gender violence in film, including Varun Grover as a host, and guests like Anvita Dutt, Sudip Sharma, Vikram Motwane, Konkana Sen, etc. The IP has gathered million+ views across 2 acclaimed seasons and hopes to continue.
As an actor, she has trained with Avneesh Mishra, performed in iconic musical plays with Rangshila at Prithvi Theatre, and featured in a minor role on a Disney+ Hotstar show. As an improv comic, she has trained with the LA-based UCB Improv Theatre (founded by Amy Poehler), performed religiously for over 5 years with her troupe Medium Sized Improv (with Neville Bharucha and friends), and featured in an unreleased, first-of-its-kind, Hindi improv comedy series.
During the COVID second wave, she founded Art for Oxygen, a series of fundraising workshops in collaboration with experts like Saurabh Sachdeva, Tess Joseph, Kanan Gill and more. She successfully raised over 12 lakhs to help partner NGOs.
As of 2025, she's balancing life as a socially conscious creator/comic and an arts-based facilitator, hoping to help folks grow and chat without getting bored.
