The world’s biggest LGBTQ+ horror film festival returns to the airways this June! Get ready for the 6th annual Sohome Horror Pride, part of the Soho Horror Film Festival! This year’s edition brings attendees a massive 10 feature films and 25 short films from around the world, showcasing the best in LGBTQ+ filmmaking.

This year’s Sohome Horror Pride event appropriately starts on Friday, June 13, 2025, and goes until June 15. With the festival starting on such an auspicious date, it only makes sense that this year’s themes in “Queering the Slasher”!

Cryptids are fascinating creatures, regardless of whether you believe in their existence or not. From Mothman and Bigfoot to the Fresno Nightcrawler and the Flatwoods Monster, these fantastical beasts have captured our imagination. In her feature film debut, Kryptic, director Kourtney Roy channels that fascination into her own creature full of ectoplasm and gooey ooze.

In the new film:

Kay (Chloe Pirrie) is in trouble. A strange encounter in the woods has left her with no memory. Only one thing is certain: she is the spitting image of missing monster hunter, Barb Valentine. When an intruder breaks into her house, she runs, with no idea where she’s going, but she knows her only chance to reconnect is to shed more light on Barb’s mysterious disappearance. Random encounters seem to point her in the right direction, but what was hoped to be a journey of self-discovery gradually becomes a hunt for the monster itself.

The streaming service Shudder has been known to feature some of the best and unique horror movies the genre has to offer, and their latest acquisition is no different. Titled Good Boy, the film made its premiere earlier this year at SXSW, and has the unique hook of being a supernatural tale told from a dog's perspective.

Per Deadline, Shudder has picked up distribution rights to Good Boy, and will release the film in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Ben Leonberg helms the project, which he also penned with co-writer Alex Cannon. Starring Leonberg's own canine friend, Indy, Good Boy promises to put a new twist on the haunted house trope by presenting its tale through the eyes of a four-legged protagonist:

Etheria Film Festival, the world’s leading showcase for horror, science fiction, and fantasy films directed by women, has announced the launch of its new feature film screening series, Etheria Presents, with the Los Angeles premiere of Izzy Lee’s House of Ashes! The prescient film tackles the ever-looming fears of women losing bodily auntomy as fascism rises both in the United States and around the world.

The premiere event will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Los Feliz 3 Theater, presented in partnership with the American Cinematheque. Etheria Presents will continue with bi-monthly screenings of groundbreaking new genre features by women directors throughout 2025 and 2026.

Following a wave of festival accolades, Bystanders, the directorial debut of Mary Beth McAndrews, has locked in a VOD release date of 21 January via Dread, the specialty horror label of Epic Pictures. The revenge thriller, written by Jamie Alvey, has already made an impact on the festival circuit, sweeping multiple awards at HorrorHound Film Festival and earning further recognition at Nightmares Film Festival.

The found footage horror classic The Blair Witch Project is returning to Blu-ray with a new release from UK company Second Sight, and it’s set to be a first-of-its-kind offering.

The 2-Disc Limited Edition set includes a new Second Sight Films restoration from the Hi8 videotapes and 16mm film elements, supervised and approved by the Producers and Directors, which presents The Blair Witch Project as it was meant to be seen for the very first time.

The Blair Witch Project production designer Ben Rock explains over on Twitter, “If you’re a fan of The Blair Witch Project, this edition is a first of its kind. The original sources have been re-digitized including a first-ever proper transfer of the 16mm. And there’s a new doc by Jed Shepherd interviewing all of us who made the film.”

The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable director M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie, Trap, arrives in theaters today, and the review embargo has only just lifted.

This isn't usually a great sign, and sure enough, the serial killer flick starring Josh Hartnett is currently sitting at 44% on Rotten Tomatoes with 39 verdicts added.

Despite the "rotten" score, quite a few critics have been defending the movie on social media, although most seem to agree that - like a lot of Shyamalan films - the plot starts to get far too convoluted and preposterous in the final act.

Still, Hartnett is said to give a great performance, and it sounds like Trap is an effective enough cat-and-mouse thriller for the majority of its run-time.

The Nicolas Cage-led horror movie Longlegs debuts with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. Cages creepy serial-killing character is unrecognizable according to the films director, Oz Perkins who is the son of Hollywood icon and Psycho star, Anthony Perkins. Cage himself proclaims that viewers lives are not going to be the same after they see Longlegs.

Creepy Cage is impressing the critics, which has resulted in a flawless debut on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, Nicolas Cages upcoming horror film, Longlegs, debuts with a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cage portrays a cold and calculating serial killer in writer and director Oz Perkins upcoming macabre movie. And, at the time of this writing, Longlegs continues to register a perfect 100% on the Tomatometer thanks to some incredibly high praise from the critics. Michael Gingold of Rue Morgue Magazine writes in his review:

Nicolas Cages brief blip in his recent run of career-best reviews seems to be well and truly over, as his new horror movie has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Recently, Nicolas Cage has been making many critically-acclaimed films. His most recent film, the Neon horror Longlegs' Rotten Tomatoes score has just debuted and it's impeccable.

Although Longlegs isn't out in theaters yet, the first reviews are in, and were enough to give the upcoming horror a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. So far, the film has only received nine reviews, but all of them were stunning and encouraging. As new ones come in, Longlegs might not maintain its perfect score, but its initial debut rating is a very strong start.

A reality show becomes all too real in Jung Bum-shik’s Korean found-footage fear-fest Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. Now you can discover what really happened at the haunted hospital as Second Sight Films brings the acclaimed horror to Limited Edition and Standard Edition Blu-ray on 24th June 2024.

The previous teasers for The Blackcoat's Daughter director Osgood Perkins' next feature, Longlegs, have been very effective in building an aura of unsettling dread around the mysterious horror flick, but this latest trailer really takes things to another level.

Though the movie is still playing things relatively close to the chest when it comes to revealing specific plot details, this footage does give us a little more to go on, as rookie FBI agent Lee Harker (It Follows star Maika Monroe) becomes obsessed with tracking down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families - and might just have supernatural abilities.

The first reactions to Longlegs were recently shared on social media, and after watching the full trailer for Osgood Perkins' (The Blackcoat's Daughter) latest project, it's easy to see why it's being hailed as one of the scariest movies of the year.

Longlegs is garnering high praise as the best horror film of the year, with reviewers describing it as genuinely terrifying and disturbing. The film's innovative marketing campaign, using cryptic teasers, has generated significant buzz and anticipation among horror enthusiasts. Director Oz Perkins, known for his work on The Blackcoat's Daughter, has crafted a mesmerizing and violently evil thriller with Longlegs that lingers long after it's over, per early reactions.

Early reviews for Neon's horror thriller Longlegs are overwhelmingly positive, as reviewers suggest it could be the best horror film of the year. Due to Neon's innovative marketing campaign, the Nicolas Cage-led movie has attracted much attention in its pre-release stage. The indie studio began releasing cryptic and chilling teasers for the film in January but initially kept it secret which movie the clips were for due to listing the movie's name in code made up of occult symbols.

Considering how much build-up Longlegs has had – with the stream of teasers, posters and symbols – the horror film had a lot to live up to, at least how it was being marketed. Fortunately for the involved parties, Longlegs looks to be one of the horror flicks to see so far this year, with most praising it for being an unnerving work that features stellar performances and channels The Silence of the Lambs.

Horror fans have been keeping a very close eye on director Osgood Perkins' next project, and the first social media reactions for the mysterious Longlegs are in.

These reactions are highly positive, and it sounds like the movie is a genuinely disturbing, terrifying experience.

Though Longlegs definitely seems to be keeping its biggest secrets firmly under wraps for the time being (and the teasers are all the better for it), we do know that the plot revolves around a rookie FBI agent (It Follows star Maika Monroe) attempting to track down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families.

Cage's character has largely been kept out of the marketing, aside from one unsettling shot.

The 100-Acre-Wood will once again be drenched in blood in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II, a sequel to last year’s viral hit that arrives in theaters beginning Tonight.

From Fathom Events, the slasher sequel will be playing in theaters nationwide on March 26, March 27 and March 28, so make sure you get out there and see it while you can.

Of course, anyone who has seen the not-so-good first movie may not be all that eager to get out and support another one of these, but the early reviews for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II are surprisingly strong out of the gate. Granted, only six critics have logged their reviews over on Rotten Tomatoes at this time, but the film is currently 100% Fresh!

Rotten Pooh: For the sake of comparison, last year’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes with 62 reviews logged!

The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. If you’re a fan of Ginger Snaps trilogy as well and happen to have a Region B (or region free) Blu-ray player, you’ll be glad to hear that Second Sight Films is packaging all three movies together in a limited edition UK box set that’s going to be released on October 30th. Just in time for Halloween, which happens to be the setting of the first movie.

Grimmfest, Manchester UK’s International Festival of Fantastic Film, joins Méliès International Festivals Federation.

Regular attendees that look forward to catching up with the annual selection of short film premieres at Grimmfest, will be pleased to hear that this year, Grimmfest will be hosting three short film programmes across the festival period (6th-8th October 2023), in celebration of their new membership of the Méliès International Festivals Federation.

The Federation, recently held their annual general assembly at Cannes film festival, and the 26 member festivals voted for Grimmfest to join, and thus become the only English festival of fantastic film in the Federation.
