Director Tim Burton was having a pretty difficult time at the box office for over a decade before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice broke past expectations and grossed around $450 million worldwide. Hungarian auteur Bence Fliegauf is about as far from the mainstream as you can get, although he has tried his hand at various Hollywood genres — including the 2010 English-language sci-fi flick Womb, which starred Eva Green and Lesley Manville. But his eclectic range of movies are often dark and difficult to classify, which may explain why he’s been a regular on the festival circuit for nearly two decades without ever getting much play in theaters.

The director’s latest feature, Jimmy Jaguar, is another brooding head-scratcher, one that’s equal parts fascinating and frustrating. On paper, it could be pitched as a Hungarian Blair Witch Project meets Insidious, using a faux-documentary device to explore a case of demonic possession among a group of outsiders living in the countryside. But it doesn’t include a single jump scare, killing scene or drop of blood, and never manages to frighten the viewer.

‘Hijack’ didn’t get the spotlight it deserved, but it’s one of the most addictive series on the platform.

Acclaimed filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott has been behind some of the most iconic films of all time. He has helmed many box office hits, although his projects weren't always a hit with the critics.

2005's Kingdom of Heaven is one of them. His lesser-known historical epic premiered on May 6, 2005, and received mixed reviews, but made decent money at the box office. As the film recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, Kingdom of Heaven has also scored a brand-new streaming home and will head to Hulu on July 1, per WhenToStream.

The historical epic had previously switched streaming homes late last year. Ahead of Gladiator II's release, which marked the sequel to probably one of Ridley Scott's most famous works, 2000's Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven headed to Prime Video on Nov. 1. Not only was it Ridley Scott's first full-blown epic since the box office and Oscar phenomenon "Gladiator," released five years prior, but it featured an astonishing cast -- Orlando Bloom, fresh off "Lord of the Rings," Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, and Liam Neeson -- boasted handsome production values, a terrific trailer, and an intriguing concept. Who didn't want to see the director of "Gladiator" tackle the Crusades?

Well, as it turns out, not too many people. "Kingdom of Heaven" cost a reported $110 million to produce (excluding publicity and advertising) and opened to a modest $19 million in the United States, en route to a disappointing $47.5 million domestic total. Ouch. Internationally, the picture fared better, collecting $171 million to raise its worldwide gross to $218 million -- not terrible, but a far cry from "Gladiator's" impressive $451 million take.

Following the disappointing performance of Snow White at the box office earlier this year, Disney reportedly put a live-action remake of Tangled on hold and hit pause on other projects in development. However, the fantastic, record-smashing opening weekend of Lilo & Stitch may convince the House of Mouse to once again aggressively remake its animated features.

Disney first started re-imagining its animation classics into live-action features during the '90s, and that trend has only accelerated in the 21st century. The next remake on the horizon is Moana, which features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprising his role as Maui from the 2016 original. But that won’t be arriving in theaters until July 2026.

First released in 2005, Kingdom of Heaven is a fictionalized version of the Third Crusade, and centers around a blacksmith-turned-knight (Orlando Bloom), who gets swept up in the battle for Jerusalem in the 12th century. Director Danny DeVito’s 1989 BAFTA-nominated film The War of the Roses is being revived with a new cast and a new film from Searchlight called The Roses. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) and BAFTA and Emmy winner Benedict Cumberbatch are set to star in The Roses, which, per Variety, has an official release date of Aug. 29.

"Quantum of Solace" may be the most baffling entry in the entire "James Bond" franchise. Sure, you have to throw other oddities into contention, like "A View to a Kill" or "Octopussy" ... but enough about the end of Roger Moore's "Bond" run (it can't hurt us anymore). For all the "grounded" grittiness of the Daniel Craig era, this last chapter of 007 history brought a couple of duds in the form of "Quantum of Solace" and "Spectre." A mainstay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking over for Venom actor Tom Hardy in a new film from Cary Fukunaga, who directed the Daniel Craig James Bond film No Time to Die(2021). Benedict Cumberbatch, who has played Doctor Stephen Strange in several MCU films, is replacing Hardy in the crime thriller Blood on Snow, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Hardy, (Venom: the Last Dance), who had to withdraw from Blood on Snow because of scheduling issues, had previously signed on to the film, which starts filming in Latvia at the end of February. Blood on Snow is based on the 2015 novel by Joe Nesbø, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ben Power.

Apple TV+ has signed its first ever agreement with professional bodies representing the French audiovisual sector committing the platform to investment obligations in local and European productions.

The accord, which does not cover cinema, will see the platform adhere to obligations set out in France’s 2021 Smad decree governing investment quotas and media windows for all subscription-based, pay-per-view and free VOD services operating in the country.

Under the four-year agreement, Apple TV+ will invest 20% of its previous year’s net annual turnover in France in the development and production of European and French audiovisual works.

In addition, 70% of this commitment will be directed towards independent productions by French and European producers, who will then retain rights to the IP.

A clause on the diversity of investments in documentary and animation is also in works.

Professional animation, producer and distributor bodies AnimFrance, Satev, Sedpa, Spi, Uspa, and Sacd welcomed the deal.
