In 2019, the original “Inhuman Kiss” was one of the first films to usher in a wave of strong and impactful Thai horror films that helped to spearhead the country’s emergence on the international scene. Seeing the country pump out titles like “The Maid,” “The Medium,” and “Leio” among others in the years since, it’s no surprise a follow-up appeared several years later that’s just now getting USA distribution from One Tree Entertainment.
After years of being apart, childhood friends Sao (Chanya McClory) and Klau (Kritsanapoom Pibulsonggram) are delighted to see each other again after their initial meets were cut short. Male objectification hasn’t played that much of a role in the history of cinema. I mean, compared to the fairer sex, we haven’t seen many films where the physical appeal of a man has been put at the forefront and used as a storytelling tool. Netflix’s latest Thai drama, titled Doi Boy, does exactly that. Directed by Nontawat Numbenchapol, Doi Boy chronicles the journey of this young ethnic Shan man, named Sorn, in a world of sex, lies, scheming, and tenderness. In the neon-drenched city of Chiang Mai, Sorn struggles to make ends meet. He is an undocumented refugee from the land of Myanmar, so it is not possible for him to get a proper job in Thailand. As a result, he ends up turning himself into a Doi Boy, which basically means a male prostitute. The work keeps Sorn afloat, and he discovers a sense of belonging.

As with every new money-making opportunity, though, corruption and illegal by-products do appear, with “The Up Rank” dealing with the concept of rank boosting in popular mobile shooting games, where good players earn money to raise the rank of others.
“The Up Rank” is screening at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

Hunger is a film directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and starring Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying and Nopachai Chaiyanam.
Hunger is an apparently low-key Thai film which lands this Saturday on Netflix, with a very interesting aesthetic and a story to tell.
Plot
A famous chef notices a “street” cook. The girl has talent, and he decides to hire her as part of his select group of assistants to serve the upper class of the country.
But the food holds a secret.
Hunger (2023) About the Movie
Interesting, to say the least. A movie about cooking served in the form of a thriller with strain spikes and, above all, a good high-contrast photography.
A film that has a clear axis around which the other stories revolve: social differences and injustice. Whether or not to go into social matters, the film raises this issue well, and knows how to distinguish both environments in rhythm as well as in the aesthetic tone.
