Hideo Kojima Gives His Verdict on James Gunn’s Superman: “The movie itself wasn’t punk”
Image
Hideo Kojima, the game designer behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding, has weighed in on James Gunn’s Superman, and it’s not what most fans of the movie would expect. He watched the Dcu reboot after returning from his world tour, and as per his post on X (formerly Twitter), Kojima believes that “the movie itself wasn’t punk.”

Superman stars David Corenswet as the titular hero, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. At large, the movie has been praised for its tonal shift from previous iterations of the DC character, but it didn’t sit right with some viewers— Kojima being one of them.

Neil deGrasse Tyson Admits Permanently Changing Superman Lore In DC Comics
Image
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson knows about Superman and his origins because he was the one who actually defined the perimeters of Superman’s birth and his eventual travel to Earth from a destroyed Krypton.

A clip has been circulating on Instagram showcasing Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about the origin of Superman on the planet Krypton. An issue was published in 2012 called Action Comics #14, which had Superman visiting the Hayden Planetarium in New York and featured a comic adaptation of Neil deGrasse Tyson.

As the astrophysicist explains it, there was a scientific gap in how Superman could potentially witness the destruction of Krypton because… well, light travels fast, and Superman had to travel much faster to reach Earth.

When he arrived on Earth, he was an infant, no older than when he left Krypton. So, either he travelled on a beam of light, for which time does not pass, but if that happened,...

Star Trek: Discovery actor is finally a captain, just in a non-Star Trek show
Image
Jules Verne is arguably the father of science fiction with his 1870 classic novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with the enigmatic anti-hero Captain Nemo, and his fantastical submarine the Nautilus. This sweeping tale of advanced technology, revenge, and political intrigue is set in the late 19th Century. It tackles the maritime conflict between man, nature, and how the ocean's resources could be overexploited.

AMC+ has adapted this seafaring novel into a mini-series called Nautilus (2024), which stars Shazad Latif as its helmsman, Captain Nemo. In the AMC+ series, Shazad portrays an Indian prince (Prince Dakkar), under British colonialism is enslaved. Unlike the Jules Verne version, Nemo and a few of his loyalists pull off a daring coup and steal the Nautilus, while taking on some unwanted crew, and set out into the open sea.

Nemo, which is Latin for “no one”, as he seeks to remain nameless in his relentless quest...

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert update for the week of June 30
Image
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was made for weeks like this one. But with so much going on, what should fans expect to see on CBS this week?

The Senate is making its way through President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill." It's the kind of story tailor-made for Stephen Colbert's monologue, given the Late Show host's politics and the cast of characters spotlighted in these kinds of debates.

Sadly, we won't get to hear what Colbert made of things on Monday night. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Instead, CBS will reair the June 11 episode. Interested viewers can tune in to see Colman Domingo, Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Jonathan Pryce.

It's not all that surprising to see The Late Show with Stephen Colbert close up shop this week. The July 4 holiday on Friday means...

5 The Big Bang Theory Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spin-Off Series
Image
Even by sitcom standards, "The Big Bang Theory" has plenty of colorful characters. However, the show tends to keeps a tight focus on the original core group of Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Howard (Simon Helberg), and Raj (Kunal Nayyar), which means that several supporting characters don't get the attention they deserve. Some rise above the fray: Mayim Bialik's Amy and Melissa Rauch's Bernadette were both promoted to main character status in season 4 and remained as such until the end of the show. Several other characters have also enjoyed briefer stints as part of the main cast before either exiting the show completely or quietly falling back out of focus.

An abundance of these peripheral figures has left the show with an overwhelming surplus of fascinating characters who just don't get the sort of focus they could no doubt handle, either because they don't...

Pedro Pascal Is Now Such a Massive Star, He’s Narrating Actual Planetarium Films
Image
There are big stars, and then there are big stars. Count Pedro Pascal among both groups. The “Last of Us,” “Eddington,” “Materialists,” and “Fantastic Four: The First Steps” actor has already enjoyed a very busy 2025, but even the most devoted of his fans might not realize he’s got another new release coming out this month: a planetarium film.

Pascal narrates “Encounters in the Milky Way,” the Hayden Planetarium’s seventh Space Show, which will be available for viewing at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History starting next week. There’s no word yet which other museums might license the film, but the stunning new 25-minute offering will indeed be available to other institutions eager to share the new look inside our own galaxy.

At a press preview event held Tuesday morning in New York City, the actor was sadly not in attendance, but his natural gravitas...

Game of Thrones child star gives encouraging advice to new Harry Potter actors
Image
Isaac Hempstead Wright played Bran Stark in seven out of eight seasons of Game of Thrones, which grew in the telling from a largely under-the-radar new fantasy series to the biggest hit on TV. He was just a 10-year-old kid when they filmed the pilot for the show, and couldn't possibly have predicted how huge the show would become.

“And, for me as a kid, I didn’t really know what was going on," Wright told The Times. "I just thought, ‘Gosh, this will be exciting. This is a sort of fun extracurricular activity.’ But there were real conversations between my parents, weighing up whether it’s something you should let your child go into. There were discussions between them whether to actually, sort of politely decline and say is this just going to be a bit of a distraction?"

Obviously, Wright's parents let him take the role, and it...

“It was very much Roddenberry”: Jonathan Frakes Never Thought ‘The Orville’ Was a Downgrade After Star Trek
Image
From becoming the youngest showrunner in television history with The Family Guy to being berated by the creators of The Simpsons and especially South Park, Seth MacFarlane has had a complicated reputation in Hollywood. This isn’t to say his entire career has been confined to The Family Guy cutaway gags, as in recent years, the animator has branched out with shows like The Orville.

Speaking of his sci-fi venture, Star Trek star Jonathan Frakes even deemed McFarlane’s creation on brand with Roddenberry’s iconic saga, as both of them leaned toward similar goals.

In contrast to Star Wars, which inclined more towards fantasy than sci-fi, Gene Roddenberry’s creation, despite being futuristic, was rooted in reality with its exploration of themes that hit close to home. Whether it’s sexism,...

“That’s where I put my energy”: Unlike Robert Picardo, One Star Trek: Voyager Actor Refused to Pitch Story Ideas Because He Wanted to Be a Director
Image
Star Trek actors are no strangers to getting intimate with their characters’ characterization, especially Robert Picardo and Jonathan Frakes, and the latter is even responsible for one of Sir Patrick Stewart’s favorite Star Trek movies. Robert Picardo, on the flip side, is famous for pitching ideas to writers and actively seeking opportunities to continue working with the revered franchise.

Robert McNeill was another Star Trek star who aspired to extend his Star Trek career beyond his onscreen presence, but unlike Picardo, he took a different and more cautious approach.

While Robert Picardo‘s insistence on pitching ideas has contributed to his long-standing run in the beloved franchise, as he has been successful in having a say in his creative ventures in Star Trek, McNeill didn’t follow in his footsteps. Given his desire for directing,...

Star Trek’s Most Successful Game Turns 7 — It Needs a Helldivers 2-Style Sequel Next
Image
Star Trek is a franchise that’s been around for more than five decades. While there have been year-long breaks, the interest in the franchise has never waned down. Over the years, we’ve seen several developers in the gaming industry try their hands at a Star Trek game.

Right from MMORPGs to first-person shooter games, Star Trek fans have plenty from the franchise. However, not a single entry in the expansive universe of Star Trek games has managed to gain as much hype and success as Star Trek Fleet Command.

It’s been seven years since the release of Star Trek Fleet Command, and while it’s still going strong, it certainly lacks the charm it had all those years ago. What’s the best way to move forward with the series? Well, it’s learning from Helldivers 2.

It’s time for Star Trek Fleet Command to evolve

Jonathan Frakes on Infamous $67M Trek Movie: It Failed Because Many Important Scenes “Just got cut to bits”
Image
Jonathan Frakes has not just played William Riker in the Star Trek franchise, but has also been a director on multiple episodes across shows and two films starring The Next Generation cast. This kind of makes him an expert on the inner operations of the show and the movies, giving him a lot of credibility on what actually went wrong with some of the films.

Frakes directed both Star Trek: First Contact and Insurrection, with the former gaining a lot of praise. However, the middling response to the latter led the studio to give the job to Stuart Baird in Star Trek: Nemesis, the final film featuring the Tng cast. Frakes said what he felt went wrong with Nemesis, which only earned a disappointing $67 million at the box office.

Thad and Kestra Were More Than Easter Eggs, They’re the ‘Star Trek’ Franchise’s Hidden Heart
Image
There’s a reason why millions of people still love the Star Trek franchise to this date, despite being one of the oldest franchises in all of Hollywood. Although the franchise has a certain moral code and the classic fight between good vs. evil, there’s more to it than meets the eye.

From giving homage and references to having some detailed easter eggs that only the keen-eyed fans know, the Star Trek franchise has become a global pop culture phenomenon, and the characters Thad and Kestra were more than easter eggs for the world.

Star Trek: Picard introduced the children of Captain Riker

It was 1966 when Star Trek: The Original Series debuted, starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in leading roles. The series found much fame and critical acclaim (partly due to the space race that was going on at the time).

Neil deGrasse Tyson: Star Trek Is Better Than Star Wars Because Unlike the Millennium Falcon, The Enterprise Is ‘Real’
Image
Different viewers have different expectations when it comes to sci-fi. While on one hand, many are ready to overlook some plot contrivances in favor of the narrative’s emotional bits, a sizeable demographic often prioritizes the realism depicted in them. Neil deGrasse Tyson unsurprisingly comes from the latter category, given his background as an astrophysicist.

And even though the conundrum of choosing between the two biggest sci-fi can prove to be a nightmare for fans of the genre, in Tyson’s case, it was fairly easy when it came to picking between Star Wars and Star Trek‘s space vessels.

John Mulaney Doubts Dinosaurs Existed: ‘We Don’t Even Know How Gene Hackman and His Wife Died’ | Video
Image
The original topic of Wednesday’s “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney” apparently had to be changed last minute due to some unforeseen circumstances. “This week’s topic was going to be the Pope is still alive, but in light of recent events, we had to pivot,” Mulaney told his in-studio audience in a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Monday death of Pope Francis.

The subject Mulaney settled on instead? Dinosaurs. According to the “Everybody’s Live” host, he found himself beginning to doubt the existence of the prehistoric reptiles while he was recently reading a book to his three-year-old son. “I started to get a little creeped out because, like, I’m his main source of information. I’m his most trusted name in news, and I’m telling him, ‘These are the dinosaurs,'” Mulaney explained. “And I don’t mean this in any kind of Christian or political way,...

John Mulaney Just Dropped A Weirdly Personal But Perfectly Accurate Roast of Neil deGrasse Tyson
Image
John Mulaney isn’t a fan of pop science or pop scientists, and he’s not afraid to passive-aggressively say so on his bizarro late-night show while pushing borderline Evangelical dinosaur skepticism.

Tonight’s episode of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney tackled the topic of paleontology, and, specifically, Mulaney’s question of, “Are dinosaurs put together correctly?” Sporting a pre-show trigger warning indicating that fringe conspiracy theories will feature heavily in the seventh episode of Mulaney’s ongoing live-show experiment, this week’s Everybody’s Live attempted to poke holes in paleontological theories about the dinosaurs’ actual appearance in their lifetimes as reconstructed by their scattered fossils millions of years later. Critically, Netflix streamed this week's Everybody's Live with John Mulaney without a single paleontologist or scientist of any kind present in the studio.

In his opening monologue, Mulaney fully admitted that the mission statement of tonight’s Everybody’s Live is playfully anti-science,...

‘Alien: Earth’ Drops Mysterious New Teaser in Honor of Earth Day
Image
Alien: Earth is one of the most exciting sci-fi releases this summer. The series is a prequel to the classic 1979 Alien movie and takes place two years before it. Created by Noah Hawley, the show will stream on FX on Hulu and stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, and more.

In the story, a spaceship crashes on Earth, leading a young woman and a team of soldiers to a shocking discovery, one that puts all of humanity in danger.

Today, in honor of Earth Day, the show surprised fans with an interesting teaser. The teaser showcases the diversity of Earth through biological, geographical, and cultural context, but the narrator (who sounds like Neil DeGrasse Tyson) is clearly doing it in the most ominous way possible.

Gayle King says ‘That’s not in the script’ as co-anchors put her on the spot in CBS Mornings segment
Gayle King at an event for Sex and the City 2 (2010)
Things got somewhat awkward and uncomfortable for Gayle King during a surprise CBS Mornings segment.

It’s no surprise that Gayle is heading to space. Word arrived weeks ago that she’ll travel on a historic Blue Origin New Shepard mission with five other women.

Her crewmates include singer Katy Perry, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and philanthropist and author Lauren Sanchez.

The trip has already received backlash from critics. The View’s Joy Behar questioned the mission, and actress Olivia Munn blasted the space trip on Today with Jenna & Friends.

However, Gayle has expressed excitement over the trip on several occasions but also indicated that her anxiety is at a high level.

She echoed those sentiments in a recent CBS Mornings segment, which she was initially reluctant to participate in.

Interstellar: Christopher Nolan Got the “Best biologists” Money Can Buy To Ensure One Storyline Didn’t Become a Gargantua-Sized Plot Hole
Image
Out of all his filmography, Interstellar stands as Christopher Nolan’s most emotionally heavy work, thanks to the bond between Cooper and his daughter, which remains the central focus of the space opera. However, the film’s emotional core didn’t hinder Nolan’s commitment to its scientific accuracy, at least for the most part.

As a result, Nolan worked with real experts to avoid scientific fallacies within the story, especially regarding one story bit that pushes the plot forward.

The sheer scale of Interstellar makes its fixation on scientific accuracy all the more impressive. However, the scene that did raise some eyebrows had nothing to do with Cooper’s space venture but the reason why they had to leave in the first place.

Is Christopher Nolan's Interstellar Scientifically Accurate?
Image
Christopher Nolan is one of the most important directors of his time, and may even be the preeminent filmmaker of his generation. But there's an element to the British director's style that, at times, can make his films seem a little too functional and cold. As Richard Brody wrote in his New Yorker review of "Oppenheimer," "Nolan cuts his scenes to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, and details that don't fit — contradictions, subtleties, even little random peculiarities — get left out [...] What remains is a movie to be solved rather than lived."

With 2014's "Interstellar," however, the director proved he could balance his functional "jigsaw puzzle" style with real emotional heft. As such, "Interstellar" remains Nolan's emotional masterpiece, and is for many his best film. What makes it a true marvel is that Nolan managed to create a truly moving emotional drama that also happens to be a spectacular sci-fi...

5 takeaways from Neil deGrasse Tyson on Star Trek technologies
Image
Neil deGrasse Tyson is arguably the world’s most famous astrophysicist who has this affable delivery to explain the astronomical laws of physics such as the effects of the earth’s electromagnetic field or why all galaxies in the universe may likely encircle a black hole at their centers. I am currently reading Tyson’s 7th book “Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization” (release in 2022), and it reminded me just how small and insignificant our earthly issues are in comparison to the vast expanse of the universe and the mysteries of our solar system and beyond.

Tyson is geek fandom royalty and when he discussed the potential viability of Star Trek technology on his recent “StarTalk” podcast titled “The Science of Star Trek with Dr. Charles Liu” - I was thrilled and intrigued. I could not wait to hear his take on warp engines, phasers, and everything that makes starships...

Ken Jennings reveals his dream Celebrity Jeopardy! contestant and game show’s ‘Mount Rushmore’
Saturday Night Live (1975)
Ken Jennings wants viewers to know that the Celebrity Jeopardy! he hosts isn’t the same as what viewers see on Saturday Night Live.

SNL has famously parodied the special installment of the gameshow with some of their famous contestants, including Sean Connery, Katie Lee Gifford, Robin Williams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Various SNL stars make their impressions of famous people, typically in a hilarious fashion.

They’ve even parodied one of their beloved cast members, as they had Jimmy Fallon appear as a fake Adam Sandler during the 1998 episode’s sketch.

While the parody often portrays celebrities as dumb, Ken praised the recent group of celebrities competing on the real-life Celebrity Jeopardy! he hosts.

“This is like legit. These folks are smart. A lot of them were broadcasters, stand-up comics. We had Neil deGrasse Tyson,” he said Tuesday on Good Morning America.

“These might be our smartest celebrities ever, and...

Neil deGrasse Tyson Names the ‘Least Scientifically-Accurate’ Sci-Fi Movie Ever Made
Image
Sci-fi movies often prioritize stories and visuals over scientific accuracy, because their goal is to entertain, not educate. Many concepts, like space travel or futuristic technology, are based on imagination rather than real science, or at least science that is currently based on our understanding of physics still far away.

Filmmakers may also take creative liberties to make the plot more thrilling or easier to follow for the audience. Most people aren’t really all that bothered by these inaccuracies, but Neil deGrasse Tyson is not most people.

Celebrity scientist Tyon often points out scientific inaccuracies in Hollywood movies, especially in sci-fi films, not to spoil the fun but to encourage better accuracy. He often highlights unrealistic concepts, like artificial gravity or sound in space, and provides corrections based on real science.

Tyson in the past criticized Michael Bay’s 1998 thriller ‘Armageddon’ as the most scientifically inaccurate movie. However, he...

The Least Scientifically-Accurate Sci-Fi Movie Ever Made, According To Neil deGrasse Tyson
Image
Know that when celebrated astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson nitpicks the bad science commonly encountered in mainstream Hollywood blockbusters, he's not trying to spoil anyone's fun. He's just being a nerd, and I think we can all respect that. There's nothing shameful about possessing a lot of scientific knowledge, and pointing out the physics and astronomical errors in a movie can only, one might hope, encourage filmmakers to be more accurate next time. Case in point: Tyson infamously complained to director James Cameron that, in "Titanic," he got the night sky wrong. Tyson knew what the constellations looked like in the North Atlantic on that fateful April night in 1912, and suggested that Cameron, using digital trickery, rework the skies to match. Cameron, also being a nerd, obliged.

When it comes to most space-bound movies, though, Tyson has a lot to complain about. Audiences have accepted that most sci-fi spacecraft, for instance,...

Mayim Bialik Was Starstruck By One The Big Bang Theory Guest Star
Image
Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's 2007 sitcom "The Big Ban Theory" was hotly contested when it was on the air. In the early 2000s, certain kinds of "geek" interests moved from the cultural fringe directly into the mainstream, and previously derided niche interests like "Dungeons & Dragons," comic books, long-form video games, astronomy, trivia, and fantasy in general all became widely accepted as a new entertainment zeitgeist. New kinds of kid-acceptable pop artists came to be canonized. The geek ecosystem was widespread and easily available to any curious takers.

"The Big Bang Theory," however, was lambasted by some viewers for its inaccurate portrayals of modern-day geeks. The characters on "Big Bang" were all scientists or intellectuals, and they all loved "Star Wars," comic books, and RPGs, but they didn't talk the way geeks talked, nor did they organically celebrate geek culture. "The Big Bang Theory" relied too heavily on outdated...

Christopher Nolan Had One Goal With The Ending Of Interstellar
Image
"Oppenheimer" may have become the highest-grossing biopic of all time, and the Dark Knight trilogy may have made Christopher Nolan into a household name, but "Interstellar" is a strong contender for the director's best film simply because it has more of an emotional core than any of his other projects. By now, it's fairly well documented that "Interstellar" is somewhat of an outlier among the Nolan filmography in that regard. But the more you think about it, the more impressive it becomes.

A huge, galaxy-spanning space epic that actually sends a man into the singularity of a black hole during its climax also manages to be the most heartfelt and intimate portrait of human connection Nolan has ever wrought. That oddly complimentary dichotomy extends to other areas of the film, too. Just consider how committed to scientific realism Nolan was and how fantastical the events in the movie are. This...

Kenan Thompson Says ‘You Gotta Pay Your Dues’ After Pete Davidson Reveals ‘SNL’ Starting Salary Was $3,000 per Episode
Image
Kenan Thompson tells Variety that new cast members at “SNL” have to “pay [their] dues a little bit” when it comes to starting salaries at the NBC sketch show.

“It’s pretty notorious that it’s more so about having the job than getting paid for the job,” Thomspon, who declined to give specific salary numbers, told Variety at the American Museum of Natural History gala on Thursday night. “You gotta pay your dues a little bit, yeah.”

Thompson’s comment comes after his former costar Pete Davidson made headlines this week when he revealed that new cast members get paid around $3,000 per episode. “Do you guys know what they pay us?” Davidson, who spent eight seasons as an “SNL” cast member from 2014 to 2022, said in a video roundup for New York Magazine. “It’s like three grand an episode. I think I got dinner.”

The Martian’s Alternate Ending Was Beautiful But Would’ve Ruined Matt Damon’s Sci-Fi Movie
Image
As beautiful as The Martian's alternate ending may seem, it could have potentially ruined the Matt Damon sci-fi movie. Based on Andy Weir's book of the same name, The Martian was both a critical and commercial success when it hit the big screens in 2015. While the movie received some criticism from the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson for its scientific accuracy, it was widely appreciated for how it captured themes of survival and the resilience of the human spirit.

Most viewers and critics agreed that The Martian's exploration of the interplanetary future and the scope of humanity's scientific progress was incredibly memorable and engaging. However, one crucial change in the Ridley Scott movie's narrative could have significantly changed it. Before The Martian hit the big screens, it also had an alternate ending. This ending was no less scintillating than the original but had one major issue that...
