The Man in Chains Movie Review
The Man in Chains (a.k.a. Der Mann im Keller) is a stripped-bare psychodrama-comedy that's more tease than delivery. German helmer Andre Schneider draws good performances from his leads, Austrian actor Nikolaus Firmkranz and Dominique Wolf, and keeps the pot bubbling for much of the pic's length until a weak payoff. Richard Kohlmann (Firmkranz) is a successful advertising exec who, after a blind date the night before, wakes up chained to a wall in a dirty, empty basement. Half Past Ten Movie Review
Bisexuality, adultery, alcoholism, and murder are all mixed up in this basically failed attempt to combine the talents of first-time director Sascha Bachmann and acclaimed New Wave novelist Marguerite Duras. Michael F. Stoerzer is cast as the alcoholic husband of model Kerstin Linnartz. The couple is living with Andre Schneider, who presumably (it is never stated) is lover to both Stoerzer and the adulterous Linnartz. Along the way, Stoerzer and Schneider take a bath together. There is also a highly erotic lovemaking scene between Linnartz and Schneider (imagined by S...

Half Past Ten Movie Review
Half Past Ten opens in the midst of a crime of passion as a beautiful woman called Maria Flynn (Sascia Haj) shoots her unfaithful husband (Christian Marx) and his lover (Charlotte Happe), and the tone of overheated melodrama is readily carried over to the main romantic triangle: Mark (Michael F. Stoerzer) and his pitch-voiced wife Eva (Kerstin Linnartz) try to save their crumbling marriage, though the therapeutic nature of their effort is not helped by the presence of Angel (Andre Schneider), Mark's crypto-bisexual pal and Eva's lover: while Angel and Eva smooch, Mark becomes obsessed with the...

Half Past Ten Movie Review
Half Past Ten is director Sascha Bachmann’s first feature film, based on a story by novelist Marguerite Duras. Duras' highly atmospheric story observes the erotic tension between three travelers that cross path with a hunted murderess. Synopsis: Eva (Kerstin Linnartz) is en route with her husband Mark (Michael F. Stoerzer), and their friend Angel (Andre Schneider). The police are searching for local woman Maria Flynn (Sascia Haj) for the murder of her husband and his lover. Mark discovers that his wife and Angel are having an affair. When he sees the fugitive Maria hiding in the woods, M...
