For Akiva Schaffer and His New ‘Naked Gun,’ Resurrecting the Theatrical Comedy Is No Joke
Image
In a phony public service announcement that ran in theaters before certain movies, Liam Neeson, star of the new “The Naked Gun,” addressed a concern that he cares deeply about: the plight of big screen comedies.

In a tone not dissimilar from Sarah McLachlan pleading for donations for abandoned animals, Neeson gravely said, “Every passing year, more comedies go unmade, unseen and unquoted.” Over a montage of clips from successful Paramount comedies, Neeson continued: “And for the price of one movie ticket, you can help rescue a comedy and in the process share a smile, a laugh and even the occasional groan with the people in your very own community. Right now there’s a comedy movie that needs you. Please, buy a ticket right now.”

The PSA was a joke, of course. But the dilemma is very real.

Over the course of the past few years, the big screen...

Wile E. Coyote makes an imprint in the newly released poster for Coyote vs. Acme
Image
Looney fans, it’s finally happening. Ketchup previously let it be known that they’ll be giving Coyote vs. Acme a theatrical release sometime in 2026, and now more information has been revealed at a San Diego Comic-Con panel – including the fact that the movie’s release is still over a year away! The official global release date is August 28, 2026.

Now, JustJared has passed along the teaser poster that’s been unveiled for Coyote vs. Acme. The image is simple, but iconic. We’re shown the desert ground with a Wile E. Coyote-shaped hole crashed into it. It harkens back to the famous Merry Melodies cartoon shorts when the Coyote pursued the Road Runner and failed at every turn. There is very little text displayed, with the release date teased and proudly stating, “In theaters.” Check it out below!

Directed by Dave Green from a screenplay by Samy Burch (who crafted...

Coyote Vs Acme | ‘Deleted’ film now getting August 2026 release
Image
Once threatened with deletion at Warner Bros, the comedy Coyote Vs Acme will now get a global release in August 2026.

How’s this for a redemption arc: Looney Tunes-themed comedy Coyote Vs Acme, shelved by studio Warner Bros and scheduled for deletion, will now get a global cinema release next year. At Comic-Con over the weekend, Ketchup Entertainment – which purchased Coyote Vs Acme from Warner Bros in a deal worth a reported $50m – is giving the animation and live action film a global release on the 18th August 2026.

It’s a far cry from where we were two years ago. At that point, the finished film, directed by David Green, fell victim to bad timing. Warner Bros had merged with Discovery in an expensive merger that year, and the now much bigger company began looking around for cost savings. Along with Batgirl and Scoob! 2, Coyote Vs Acme was scrapped as a tax write-off.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Is Back: Release Date Set with New Poster and New Look Images
Image
Coyote vs. Acme is officially back from the dead, and it’s heading to theaters around the world on August 28, 2026. The announcement came during a lively panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where cast and crew celebrated the movie’s surprising return.

The hybrid live-action and animation film, originally made by Warner Bros., was shelved in 2023 as part of a tax write-off move. It seemed like the movie would never see the light of day. But that changed when Ketchup Entertainment stepped in and bought the worldwide rights for around $50 million.

The company had also rescued another abandoned Looney Tunes film, The Day the Earth Blew Up, which ended up making over $15 million worldwide.

Paul Scheer, who hosted the Comic-Con panel, poked fun at the movie’s rocky journey. “This movie wasn’t supposed to come out,” he said. “I heard Warner Bros wouldn’t release the film — I’ve never heard of Warner Bros!

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Reveals Release Date with Fresh Images and New Poster Drop
Image
Coyote vs. Acme has officially locked in a global release date: August 28, 2026. The announcement came straight from San Diego Comic-Con, where the cast and creators gave fans a first look at what’s to come from the long-shelved live-action and animated hybrid.

During the panel, actor and moderator Paul Scheer joked about the wild journey the movie’s had, saying, “This movie wasn’t supposed to come out,” and followed up with, “I heard Warner Bros wouldn’t release the film — I’ve never heard of Warner Bros! This is really an Acme decision and I’m saying that for legal purposes.”

Scheer later added, “Ketchup is single-handedly saving the Looney Tunes. Mr. Ketchup, we salute you.”

Originally made by Warner Bros. with a reported $70 million budget, Coyote vs. Acme was pulled from release back in 2023 so the studio could claim it as a tax write-off. But in 2025, Ketchup Entertainment...

Coyote contre Acmé (2026)
Will Forte is promoting Coyote Vs. Acme!

The 55-year-old actor appeared at the 2025 Comic-Con International to chat about his long-awaited movie on Saturday (July 26) held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

Joining Will on the panel were his co-stars P.J. Byrne, Martha Kelly, and Eric Bauza along with director Dave Green.

Keep reading to find out more…During the panel, the cast announced that Coyote Vs. Acme will be hitting theaters on August 28, 2026.

If you didn’t know, the movie was fully filmed and in the post-production phase ahead of a release, when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to scrap the movie completely in November 2023. However, in March 2025, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film for theatrical release.

During the panel, moderator Paul Scheer thanked Ketchup Entertainment for saving the movie.

“This movie wasn’t supposed to come out,” Paul said, via Deadline.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Has the Knives Out for Warner Bros. at Sdcc, Plus Release Date Revealed
Image
If the long, twist-filled “Coyote vs. Acme” fight for a release was “It’s a Wonderful Life,” then Ketchup Entertainment would be all the townspeople at the end (79-year-old spoiler) chipping in to make sure George Bailey doesn’t go under. That’s as far as the analogy goes, though film fans can easily guess who is Mr. Potter in this scenario.

Regardless, the townspeople have won the day, and “Coyote vs. Acme” is indeed on its way — finally — with a theatrical release set for August 28, 2026. To sum things up as quickly as possible: the $70 million live-action/animated movie was one of a few (paging “Batgirl”) that were shelved in 2023 as tax write-offs for Warner Bros. (to the tune of $30 million), even though the movie had tested well. After a fan outcry, the film was put up for sale to other studios… but then it quickly was dead in the water again,...

Coyote vs. Acme gets a summer 2026 theatrical release date
David Zaslav
David Zaslav may be hellbent on erasing the iconic Looney Tunes properties at Warner Bros. (including removing the classic Merry Melodies shorts from the Max streaming service and demolishing the Looney Tunes building), but Ketchup Entertainment here to save the day. They released the Looney Tunes movie, The Day the Earth Blew Up, and recently acquired Coyote vs. Acme, which was once destined to be scrapped for a tax write-off, like Batgirl and other projects that Warner Bros. threw in the trash. Ketchup previously let it be known that they’ll be giving Coyote vs. Acme a theatrical release sometime in 2026, and now more information has been revealed at a San Diego Comic-Con panel – including the fact that the movie’s release is still over a year away! New Coyote Vs Acme Footage Features An Iconic Looney Tunes Character: "And It's Not Chris Pratt"
Image
While at San Diego Comic-Con, Coyote vs. Acme will feature one iconic Looney Tunes character after showing up in a clip. The Looney Tunes movie was originally announced in 2018. It even completed filming before it was revealed that Warner Bros. would be shelving the movie.

It was just this year that the infamous film was saved by a noble distributor, Ketchup Entertainment. Ketchup had previously distributed another Looney Tunes movie called The Day the Earth Blew Up. Now saved, the Coyote vs. Acme movie will be shown to audiences next year.

At an Sdcc panel that ScreenRant attended, it was confirmed that Bugs Bunny will appear in Coyote vs Acme. Bugs' appearance was revealed via footage from the movie, in which Will Forte's character Kevin interacts with multiple Looney Tunes characters. In this clip, Wiles has hired Kevin. It was his first day in court in decades since he is used to settling cases.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Debuts First Footage as Will Forte Reflects on Salvaged Film: “I Had Given Up Hope”
Image
After a very bumpy road, Coyote vs. Acme’s team took to San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the movie finally heading to the big screen and announce its forthcoming release date.

“I’m pretty speechless,” Will Forte told the crowd about the movie landing a release from Ketchup Entertainment after being dropped by Warner Bros. “It blows my mind. You think back to the journey this movie has taken. I had kind of given up hope at a certain point, so this is amazing.”

The first footage from Coyote vs. Acme featured a montage of Wile E. Coyote’s failed attempts to thwart the Road Runner, which was set to Johnny Cash’s version of the Nine Inch Nails hit “Hurt.” Later, Wile E. Coyote happens to see a TV commercial from attorney Kevin Avery, as played by Forte.

“Have you ever pulled the rip cord of your parachute and only silverware comes out?...

‘Coyote vs Acme’ Takes Digs at Warner Bros., 2026 Release Date Announced
Image
“Coyote vs Acme” arrived Saturday at Hall H, where moderator Paul Scheer promptly dropped an anvil on Warner Brothers.

“This movie wasn’t supposed to come out,” Scheer said. “I heard Warner Bros wouldn’t release the film — I’ve never heard of Warner Bros! This is really an Acme decision, and I’m saying that for legal purposes.”

The animated film will open globally on Aug, 28, 2026, star Will Forte announced on Saturday morning inside Hall H.

Ketchup Entertainment acquired worldwide rights to the live-action/CG hybrid film from Warner Bros.. Terms of the deal were not officially disclosed, but an insider pegged the deal at around $50 million.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Lands August 2026 Release Date, Footage Debuts at Comic-Con Despite Acme Corp. Meddling
Image
Hollywood’s improbable underdog “Coyote vs. Acme” has finally landed a global theatrical release date. Star Will Forte announced at the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con that the live-action/animation hybrid will premiere on Aug. 28, 2026.

“Coyote vs. Acme” — about Looney Tunes stalwart Wyle E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation for all its faulty tools in his pursuit of the Road Runner — was infamously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 after it was completed, so the company could write off its $30 million budget. The movie was greenlit by the previous regime for the streaming service HBO Max, but the team led by Wbd’s CEO David Zaslav decided to abandon that strategy and focus on theatrical releases instead. That decision led to the notorious cancellation of HBO Max films “Batgirl” and “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” in 2022.

Unlike those movies, however, “Coyote vs. Acme” was rescued by Ketchup Entertainment, which acquired...

Scarlett Johansson, Matt Damon, Kristin Chenoweth Sign Open Letter Opposing Snap, Medicaid Cuts: “This Is Unacceptable and Wrong”
Image
Scarlett Johansson, Matt Damon, Kristin Chenoweth, Danai Gurira and Zayn Malik are among a group of stars who signed an open letter, calling for Congress to reject proposed cuts to the supplemental nutrition assistance program (Snap) and Medicaid outlined in the Trump administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

In the missive published Wednesday by nonprofit organization Feeding America, the entertainment industry figures are urging Congress “to reject cuts to these vital programs that help millions put food on their tables and provide access to health care.”

“We all have powerful memories of sharing meals with friends, with family and even with strangers in moments of celebration, grief or everything in between. Food is a beautiful way humans show care, compassion and love to those around us. It’s a fundamental part of the human experience and a basic right we all deserve,” the letter reads. “Ongoing high grocery costs mean food...

Seth Rogen Casually Drops That He Helped Write ‘Bad Boys II’
Image
If you believe that the name listed as “writer” on a movie was responsible for all the words in said movie, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Unless something’s written by someone with both the auteur mindset and the track record of commercial success that earns them actually being left alone, Hollywood scripts are less the product of a direct path from script to screen than one of those exquisite corpses you make in kindergarten where every classmate gets to draw a 2x2 square.

Many of these punch-up writers go uncredited, leaving them to wallow in the depths of obscurity, holding fast to the knowledge that they had a hand in some genuine Hollywood blockbusters. Sometimes, though, they become famous in their own right, and their past, secret contributions suddenly become fascinating trivia.

In an interview with People, actor/comedian/ceramicist Seth Rogen mentioned that before hitting it big with Superbad,...

'Galaxy Quest' Producer Confirms Series Script Is "Being Written"
Image
Original Galaxy Quest producer Mark Johnson has indicated that when it comes to the long-awaited TV series based on the cult classic 1999 sci-fi comedy, fans should never give up, never surrender! It turns out that Grabthar's hammer has not come down on the project yet, after years of being in development, which means there is still a glimmer of hope that the courageous crew of the Nsea Protector could bring another space adventure to our screens in the future, and we should remain on the lookout for further signs of life.

Johnson has several projects in the works, including TV adaptations of Galaxy Quest and The Holdovers, which he tells Deadline "are being written, so we'll see." It may not be the most Earth-shattering update, especially since he didn't reveal how far along they are with the script and this is one of many iterations that have been in development...

One Of Marvel's Lowest-Budget Movies Somehow Flopped At The Box Office
Image
It was December of 2008, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was but a twinkle in Disney's eye. Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" had become a huge box office success earlier that year, and its post-credits stinger -- wherein Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) enticed Tony Stark to join the Avengers -- whetted the appetites of superhero fans everywhere. Disney would go on to purchase Marvel in 2009 and put that Avengers hint into action, ushering in a decade-long period of superhero ultra-dominance in theaters.

Before that happened, though, many superhero movies were still excitingly hit-and-miss, free of the McU's eventual homogeneity. The "X-Men" movies were up-and-down in quality, for instance, and Marvel characters like Daredevil and Elektra were only fitfully accepted by fans. Importantly, not all of these films had nine-figure budgets. Many studios, while recognizing that superheroes were moneymakers, weren't always willing to invest piles of cash in them. That wouldn't...

Hit Netflix show adds Enterprise and Prodigy actors to its already Star Trek-heavy cast
Image
Production is underway on season two of the Netflix hit comedy-mystery A Man on the Inside, and it will feature a pair of new co-stars who happen to be Star Trek veterans. Season one, which dropped in November of 2024, stars Ted Danson as Charles Nieuwendyk, a bored retiree who lands a job assisting a private detective attempting to track down a ruby necklace gone missing at a San Francisco retirement home. Season two will find Charles still working at the private detective agency and no doubt serving as the inside man again on a new case.

The actors from the Star Trek universe joining the cast of A Man on the Inside are Linda Park and Jason Mantzoukas. Park was a regular on Star Trek: Enterprise, portraying Ensign Hoshi Sato for all four seasons of the show’s run. Mantzoukas is an actor, comic, and podcaster who provided the voice of the Tellarite character,...

Every Cailee Spaeny Movie and TV Show, Ranked
Image
This article contains a brief mention of abuse.

From action films like Pacific Rim Uprising to subtle dramas like Priscilla, Cailee Spaeny continues to experiment with a variety of challenging roles. In her latest movie,Alien: Romulus, the actress has showcased her potential to lead an iconic franchise. One of the most engaging aspects of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus is the young cast. It evolves the franchise for modern viewers while showing nostalgics that different narratives can be told. In this case, it's a group of young scavengers who run into Xenomorphs rather than seasoned soldiers and experienced scientists.

This approach speaks to the wonder and inquisitive nature of youth. At the core of Romulus is Cailee Spaeny's Rain, who just wants a fresh start. As expected, Spaeny delivers range and impressive nods to Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. She's certainly a character that sequels can be built around.

Image
Sunday Am Writethru after Saturday update…Lionsgate can relish a No. 1 win in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera this weekend which is now on its way to $15.5M opening, which is $300K more than the start of the 2018 original. Let’s hear it for great dating.

The studio known for counterprogramming found a great release date on the schedule and maximized it. The results here are better than 3-day of Gerard Butler’s last movie with Lionsgate, 2023’s Plane.

It’s interesting to note that the LA market, which is still under siege from the wildfires, still turned out a solid 8% of the nation’s business which is part with its 52-week norm of 7.9%. Los Angeles generated 10.4% of the box office for Den of Thieves 2, which is more than the market did for the opening weekend of the original Den of Thieves with 9.3%. Note the...

2 late-night TV shows shut down due to LA fires
Image
Dangerous fires continue to rage across parts of Los Angeles, putting lives and property at risk. Two late-night TV shows will halt production as a result of the disaster.

The fires in Los Angeles have been called the most destructive in the city's history. More than 1,000 structures have been destroyed due to the blaze. The fire has spanned over 15,000 acres in the Palisades.

In response, CBS has put production of After Midnight on hiatus. The late-night TV show films at the Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles. The Palisades fire is to the west and the Eaton fire isn't too far to the north.

The show, hosted by Taylor Tomlinson, returned from its holiday break earlier this week. Rerun episodes are now scheduled for January 8 and January 9. Wednesday night's episode will replay the December 12 show featuring Fortune Feimster, Paul Scheer, and Ilana Glazer.

10 Best Ken Marino Movies & TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Ken Marino's career as an actor, writer, and director has been largely defined by two things: comedy and collaboration. After establishing himself via the MTV sketch comedy series "The State" with the comedy troupe of the same name (comprised of his closest friends and creative confidants), he went on to work on some of the funniest, most brilliant, and underrated TV and film projects to come out of Hollywood in the last two decades.

Much of his work is the result either of his own creative will or that of his former troupe-mates, the group having spread through the industry to wreak hilarious havoc. They often explore absurd angles on popular genres such as medical dramas and reality dating shows. At the same time, he's a familiar face on a smorgasbord of network sitcoms, as well as a few audacious dramedies you'll certainly want to add to your watch list.

Star Trek Just Cleverly Reversed The Tng Episode That Inspired Lower Decks
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5, Episode 8 - "Upper Decks"Star Trek: Lower Decks just cleverly reversed the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode that inspired it. As Star Trek: Lower Decks' fifth and final season on Paramount+ nears the finish line, the crew of the USS Cerritos takes a break from its current mission of closing fissures in space that lead to alternate Star Trek timelines. Star Trek: Lower Decks' episodic format allows season 5, episode 8, "Upper Decks" to be a one-off that flips Star Trek: The Next Generation season 7's "Lower Decks."

The first half-hour animated Star Trek comedy series, Star Trek: Lower Decks is also the heir to Star Trek: The Next Generation's popular 24th century era. Star Trek: Lower Decks picks up a year after Star Trek: Nemesis ends, and the USS Cerritos voyages in the wake of the events of Tng, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,...

The Complicated History of Billy Crystal’s Sammy Davis Jr. Impression
Image
Contemporary culture finally caught up with Billy Crystal when he performed his Sammy Davis Jr. impression while hosting the Academy Awards in 2012. While Crystal had trotted out the character several times during Saturday Night Live’s 10th season and included a “Sammy for Africa” track on his Mahvelous comedy album without incident, many were no longer laughing at his blackface makeup, no matter how affectionate the tribute to Davis.

Feministing pointed out the obvious: “Blackface is not okay. Ever.” Grantland wondered how the Academy allowed it: “For Crystal to do this bit in blackface, at the exclusion of genuinely any sense, points to, in a Panglossianly benign interpretation of their motives, a world-class indifference to race at the very minimum.” After Octavia Spencer took home a Best Supporting Actress Oscar later that night, comedian Paul Scheer tweeted, “Octavia Spencer’s win shows just how far we’ve come since Billy Crystal performed in blackface.

#Xodus: Bluesky Hits 20M Users as People Continue to Flee X
Image
A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.

According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.

Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.

Hollywood has been quick to adopt Bluesky, particularly with the entertainment industry’s aversion to the political views of Musk,...

Paul Scheer's Twisters Cameo Explained
Image
Paul Scheer's Twisters cameo is unexpected, and while it was fun to see the actor make a small appearance in the film, the reason why he was in the movie is still a bit mysterious. Twisters is a legacy sequel to the 1996 hit Twister, and despite the two films being part of the same franchise, there are very few references to the original movie. No original Twister characters return in Twisters, which is why it is a bit strange that the film gave Paul Scheer a cameo and not anyone from the original cast.

Scheer is a comedian and actor who has appeared in some incredibly popular projects, such as Veep, Fresh Off the Boat, and Big City Greens. His most popular TV shows, however, are FX's The League and Showtime's Black Monday, both of which got Scheer even more notoriety in the TV comedy circuits. However, one...

“Bluesky Has the Juice”: Celebrities Flee “Toxic” X for Rival Social Media Site
Image
Call it a blue wave. A host of actors, directors, musicians, journalists and other prominent people are dumping X (formerly Twitter) and flocking to social media platform Bluesky.

In the past week, an increasing number of bold-faced names have announced that they plan to post less on X, or leave the platform altogether, citing myriad issues with the social media company, including far right content, hate speech, transphobia, racism, harassment, pornography, crypto scams, bots and the political views of owner Elon Musk, the billionaire oligarch who is a vocal supporter and financial backer of Donald Trump.

Musk’s ownership of X and his updates to content moderation on the platform have been pushing brands and media groups closer and closer to the exit. This week, The Guardian media group announced that it will stop posting on X, describing the site as a “toxic media platform.” On Nov. 4, the Berlin Film...

Whatever Happened To The Cast Of The League?
Image
Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Along the way, the ensemble endures their own hilarious highs and lows involving romance and family life in between planning their fantasy teams. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.

Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.
