She started her career as a model but soon transitioned to acting, with the teen drama being her debut project. While she is currently known for her acting chops and LGBTQ+ advocacy, her journey of self-acceptance has been far from smooth.

In case you happened to miss the exciting if not unbelievable news, filming has officially started on the long-delayed third season of HBO's Euphoria. Cameras began rolling on the highly anticipated season 3 in early 2025, as HBO shared in February a new photo of Zendaya back in character as Rue. The series had been away so long, many wondered if it would ever make it back to air.
But Euphoria defied the odds stacked against it — like strikes, creative differences, and real-life tragedy — to commence production on what HBO's boss has referred to as the likely final season. One last season for the road, a victory lap for the Emmy Award-winning series if you will. We've heard reports about who won't be back, and now we're learning who's joining season 3.

Well, it's taken nearly three full years after season 2 released, but "Euphoria" season 3 is now in production. The new season, which includes the return of Zendaya's Rue Bennett, Sydney Sweeney's Cassie Howard, Hunter Schafer's Jules Vaughn, and Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs, officially started filming earlier this month. The show is expected to return sometime in 2026, although at this point fans aren't counting on anything.
The show's promo team seems to know that fans are skeptical and impatient, so on Monday morning the official "Euphoria" twitter account released the first official image from the new season:

A lot of careers were either launched or pushed along with the help of HBO’s gritty teen drama, Euphoria. One of those in the former party is Hunter Schafer, who made her acting debut in the show’s breakout season as Jules Vaughn, one of the primary characters of the series. Since then, Schafer’s starpower has only continued to grow, appearing on the big-screen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Kinds of Kindness. Earlier this year, the actress dipped into a new genre, allowing herself to explore the ins and outs of all things spooky and scary through her work in Tilman Singer’s (Luz) wildly unsettling feature, Cuckoo. Since celebrating its streaming arrival earlier this month, the film has been steadily gaining viewership numbers, landing it among Hulu’s Top 15 titles, where you can find it now.

Hunter Schafer has no idea about Euphoria season 3's status, mirroring her co-stars' lack of knowledge. Questions arise over Euphoria's sustainability and audience retention, despite its star-studded cast and confirmed creative changes. Euphoria has dealt with a number of delays, but is expected to begin filming in January 2025.
Euphoria star Hunter Schafer gives a candid response when asked about the status of the Emmy-winning drama. Earlier this year, HBO confirmed that Euphoria season 3 would begin filming in January 2025 after a substantial delay, and that the core cast would be back to reprise their roles. Hunter Schafer greets me with a confession. Beckoning me through a small gated fence into the winding maze of the Chateau Marmont’s lush, greenery-covered courtyard, she gives me a hug, then yawns. “There’s a lot happening right now,” she says. “I’ve barely gotten a handle on it.” There’s a gray vape in her hand, worn split-toe Tabis on her feet, and a wry smile on her face. “To be fully honest with you, I’d forgotten this was happening.”

While fans continue to wait for its third and final season, the cast of Euphoria has been keeping quite busy. Aside from Zendaya, who brought her pre-existing star power to HBO's hit teen drama, Euphoria turned stars like Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi into some of the most in-demand young actors working today. Euphoria Season 3's Best Future Is Following This Beloved British Teen Drama's Final Season Approach
Euphoria season 3 faces obstacles in production, but a time jump could refresh the show and simplify filming logistics. Skins UK season 7 structure could inspire Euphoria season 3 to focus on standalone episodes for character evolution. Ending Euphoria after season 3 makes sense to maintain interest and streamline the storyline with select characters.
Euphoria's best chance of making its third season a success is by following the final season approach of one of Britain's most popular teen dramas. Euphoria season 3 was announced over two years ago, but production has not even started. Thanks to the lack of filming updates, there are concerns that Euphoria season 3 might not even happen. Rumors surfaced earlier this year that HBO was prepared to walk away from Euphoria if there wasn't a clear path forward to bring the show back.
Euphoria season 2's ending left plenty of plot threads dangling, so there has to be another chapter to satisfyingly conclude the show.

Zendaya's comments on Euphoria Season 3's delay offer little clarity, as the fate of the series remains uncertain. Several cast members express hope for the show's return, but one anonymous actor doubts if a third season will happen. Despite ongoing delays, HBO and Sam Levinson are committed to delivering an exceptional third season, possibly in 2025 with a time jump.
Euphoria Season 3 remains shrouded in mystery. Zendaya, who stars as Rue and serves as an executive producer for the HBO series, is the latest to speak out about the show's delay. Unfortunately, the Challengers actress' comments are doing little to clear the air. During a conversation with Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of Challengers, Zendaya told the publication she "is not in charge" of whether the series will return, adding:
"If it's right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course. But it's beyond me.

It might be a while before HBO's popular teen drama Euphoria returns with its third season. As the cast busies themselves with other acting work, Hunter Schafer hopes the series will reflect the hiatus with a time jump.
Since Euphoria Season 3 has been delayed due to the Hollywood strikes and the death of Angus Cloud (who played Fez), creator Sam Levinson has reportedly proposed a five-year story time jump when the show eventually returns. If the idea is finalized, Schafer, who plays Jules Vaughn in the series, hopes that her character manages to get "a break" in the downtime. "The past two seasons have been pretty rough on Jules," Schafer told Variety. "So I just hope she's gotten to chill out and be a regular teenage girl."

Hunter Schafer rose to fame for her role as Jules Vaughn, a trans girl on Euphoria. It was her breakout role and an important one too, not just for Schafer but for many within the LGBTQ+ community since representation comes with the price of stereotypes usually.
Since then, the actress has slowly carved a niche for herself, and she is now one of the most vocal artists in the industry. However, Schafer has reached a point where she is selective about the roles she picks. As a consequence, she has turned down several trans roles that were offered to her.

The Emmy-winning actress’ emotional statement comes the day after news broke that Cloud, who played Fezco in the hit HBO series, died a week after burying his father in Ireland, a loss his family said he took very hard.

Euphoria season 2 adds a couple of new faces but keeps many of its season 1 characters — here is the cast of Euphoria. Created by Sam Levinson, Euphoria hails from A24 and is loosely based on an Israeli television series of the same name while also drawing on Levinson's own experiences. The series follows Rue Bennett, a teenage addict whose struggles with addiction take center stage in the show. Euphoria season 1 tracked Rue's romance with Jules, a girl new to town that immediately captured Rue's attention. The rest of the cast of Euphoria is filled with a colorful group of characters who orbit around Rue's life.

Shows about high school are hardly new. From early examples like "Happy Days" and "The Wonder Years" to the '90s heyday of "Dawson's Creek" and "Beverly Hills 90210," teenage drama has always been a part of the television landscape. Many of us look back on our time in high school with a mix of horror and embarrassment, but the years between 9th and 12th grade have never been more stressful than in Sam Levinson's "Euphoria." The HBO drama is a daring mix of grit and glitter that follows 17-year-old Rue Bennet (Zendaya) as she struggles to navigate her junior year while battling a debilitating drug addiction. "Euphoria" has faced its share of criticism (most notably from D.A.R.E) that the show glamorizes drug use. Defenders say it's an authentic portrayal of a disease that affects millions around the world. Executive producer and star Zendaya says their goal is not to be role models,...
