Known to friends and family as Sparky, “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz died in 2000. Since that time, Schulz’s work has remained almost universally beloved — as was demonstrated in October when the internet erupted in outrage at Apple TV Plus’ announcement that it would become the exclusive home to three “Peanuts” holiday specials. (A subsequent deal with PBS ensured that two of the specials would be available outside the Apple ecosystem for at least 2020.) Apple is also home to the first new “Peanuts” television projects in roughly two decades.
On Feb. 5, “The Snoopy Show,” a full-length animated comedy series produced in collaboration with Schulz’s family, will debut. Jean Schulz, Sparky’s wife of 27 years, spoke with Variety about the venture.

Charlie Brown meets Snoopy for the first time in the new trailer for The Snoopy Show, out February 5th on Apple TV+.
The clip opens with Snoopy as a lonely puppy, perched on a pile of hay inside a barn. Brown hands him a bone and delightfully tells him they’re going to be best friends. Charlie brings him home, where they ride motorcycles, play football, bake cakes, and go sledding.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Peanuts without the rest of the gang: Woodstock, Snoopy’s partner in crime.

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for its upcoming Peanuts series “The Snoopy Show” Monday, revealing the origin story of everyone’s favorite beagle.
In the video, which you can view above, Charlie Brown walks into a barn to find a sad-looking, black and white pup sitting on top of a bale of hay.
“Look what I have” the boy says, holding out a treat for the little guy. Snoopy is so excited that he immediately jumps up into Chuck’s arms.
“We’re going to be best friends,” Charlie Brown says to his new dog, snuggling him close. Then he brings Snoopy home and tells him, “Don’t be nervous, you’re going to like it here.”
The rest of the trailer proves Snoopy most certainly does, going through one crazy adventure after another with Charlie Brown, Woodstock and the rest of the Peanuts gang, including Lucy, Linus, Franklin, Schroeder,...

Christmas music owns the charts every December, and if labels wanted to enjoy a piece of the annual streaming bonanza, Cloherty wrote, “you should start your campaigns November 1.”

Looking back on the last few months, many have indulged in bouts of self-pity, perhaps even despair. “I can’t get a haircut”, “The movie theatres are closed”, “The store’s outta’ Tp”, were often heard in conversation or on social media. But at least you could complain in the comfort of your home. What happens when that gets wiped out in minutes, or in this case, an entire town (comprised of long-time residents). This new documentary is not focused on faraway land ravaged by earthquakes or tsunamis. Yes, it’s set in the US of A, where parts of the country get battered by floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, along with some nasty tremors. For this film, the makers zero in the West where fire season looks to replace Fall or Winter for a look at an entire town almost wiped off the map. Oh, that filmmaker is an Oscar winner...

Cursing is a sign of weakness. You know who taught me that? Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Charlie Brown and the whole “Peanuts” gang, who never used an epithet in the comic strip harsher than “Rats.” More often it was just “Good grief.” “You don’t need anything stronger than that,” Sparky (as everyone called him) told me in one of our early interviews. He was a wise and gentle artist, who hailed from Minneapolis and made his home in Santa Rosa, California. So when I read that a Republican congressman from Florida named Ted Yoho called his colleague Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-ny) a “f—-ing bitch,” I was shocked. The words were uttered in full earshot of a reporter from The Hill, who reported it. I’m still in shock, actually. And now I’m in awe. Because Ocasio-Cortez made history on the floor of Congress on Thursday when...
