TV on Tap: Donald Glover Cuts Back on “Community” and Mr. Darcy in the Swim
News

Here’s something to lessen the thrill for Community fans excited about creator Dan Harmon‘s return: Vulture broke the news that Donald Glover will only appear in five (out of the thirteen ordered) episodes this season, as Glover wanted time to focus on his music. While that’s good news for fans of Glover’s rapper persona Childish Gambino, that means Community viewers are getting eight episodes of Abed without Troy.

Maybe Puppet Troy could take over for a couple episodes?

Jezebel imagines what Jenny McCarthy would bring to The View as a permanent host. There’s nothing that could get me interested in watching again.

The stars of Canadian cult comedy Trailer Park Boys can hope for new episodes soon. The series’ three lead actors — Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay and Mike Smith — have purchased the rights to the series with an eye to putting new episodes online.

TV on Tap: FX Orders a Second Season of "The Americans," Ratings Will Start Counting Online Viewers, and Ashton Holmes is "Reckless" for a Pilot
IFC's Out There animates the bittersweet teenage years.

News

Former As the World Turns hunk Jesse Soffer has joined the cast of NBC's modern-day Hatfields & McCoys drama, Deadline reports. Offer will appear as a prodigal son of the McCoy clan who returns to the fold just as the feud starts to heat up again. Now, if only I had more reason to include the phrase "Former As the World Turns hunk" more often.

The story of the ratings for The Americans has been a bumpy road. The espionage drama had a big debut, (what looked like) a large second-week drop-off and followed with a big gain from DVR viewers. Thankfully, the nervous part is over as FX has ordered a second season, meaning we'll get to keep seeing Matthew Rhys in a variety of disguises. Additionally, Nielsen has finished counting the viewers for the premiere and it now ranks as FX's most-watched series debut.

The Canadian-born actor - who also enjoys citizenship in the Us and UK - appeared in shows like The Outer Limits and Line of Fire before striking gold as the smart little town's leading man.

Joined by a diverse and well-cast group of actors which included Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Joe Morton, Ed Quinn, Jordan Hinson and Niall Matter - with Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton joining later in the show's run - Ferguson became the face of the genre-themed channel's first wave of original television.

Though Eureka (broadcast in the UK as A Town Called Eureka) came to an end this July after six years and five seasons, conventions like this offer fans the opportunity to sustain their intense interest - just look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

'The Walking Dead' gets a 'Good' guy; plus, casting scoop on 'Dexter,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'CSI: NY' and more
Hope you're hungry, because we have a heaping helping of TV Snacks today. Enjoy 'em while they're hot!

Dallas Roberts ("The Good Wife," "Rubicon") is joining "The Walking Dead" as Milton, who, unlike most of the characters inspired by Robert Kirkman's comics, is wholly original to the TV series. "Milton is the details guy," Kirkman tells EW, "[who] works with the Governor...He's not exactly a scientist, but he's a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun." [EW]

Our favorite serial killer reunites with his long-lost stepchildren -- Astor anyway -- in the second half of "Dexter's" Season 7. Christina Robinson, who plays Rita's angsty daughter, was photographed with Michael C. Hall filming a beach scene in Los Angeles. "Dexter" returns to Showtime Sept. 30. [The Insider]

'Eureka' series finale - 'Just Another Day': 'The strong force holds it all together'
"Eureka" showrunner Jaime Paglia calls his series finale, "Just Another Day," a "love letter to fans." So did you feel the love?

We sure did -- especially if you are measuring by tears and goosebumps.

Maybe the best line of the evening came from amnesiac Holly (Felicia Day), who perfectly captured what Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) means to the little town of Eureka:

"Oh! I remember now. You guys are smart, but the sheriff is the strong force -- he holds it all together."

In his last heroic act of the series, Carter dove through a wormhole to save the town. As he traveled through that space-time anomaly, we saw snippets of important characters (Stark, argh!) and pivotal scenes -- including season one's alternate timeline in which Allison was his wife and pregnant with their child.

After he saved Eureka for the gazillionth time, that happy reality finally...

Check Out This Clip from the Penultimate Episode of Eureka
Last week’s episode of Eureka was the best since Season 1, depending on what you look for in a show. What an excellent creepy scary set up. Sure it’s familiar, but we’ve never seen Eureka like this before. And given that tonight’s episode is, believe it or not, the second-to-last episode of Eureka, ever, all bets are off.

So… will this storyline resolve tonight, or will we have to wait for the finale? Here’s a clip, which will not answer that question, but which showcases some excellent “twinning” work by the production crew:

Eureka, starring Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Erica Cerra, Wil Wheaton, Niall Matter, Felicia Day and Neil Grayston, airs Mondays at 9/8c on Syfy.

Exclusive: 'Eureka' Star Neil Grayston on 'End of the World', the 'Scream' of Disaster Movies
Neil Grayston
Last week I chatted with Neil Grayston, a genre TV fan-favorite for his portrayal of mild-mannered brainiac Douglas Fargo on Syfy's Eureka (now in its fifth and final season). The actor spoke to me about another upcoming project, End of the World, which he dubbed "the Scream of disaster movies." Find out what Grayston had to say about the film, directed by the I Spit on Your Grave remake's Steven R. Monroe, after the jump. "I filmed a movie with Greg Grunberg," Neil Grayston told me, "called End of the World, which may or may not be retitled. I'm not sure. But it's a Syfy Original that'll air sometime this year. I'm still waiting to do Adr for that. I assume it will be out before...

Eureka Review: Anchors Away
I wondered last week if things were going to get crowded at Jack’s place with everyone being there. This week’s Eureka episode, "In Too Deep," proved that point: three relationships living under one roof? Yikes.

But it wouldn’t be the show we all love if the chaos didn't extend beyond the number of people (or beings) in Jack's house. In this case, it was also Feynman’s day, which is Eureka’s version of April fool’s day – on steroids. Brilliant minds pulling practical jokes on each other... what could go wrong?

Jack, being the caring and sensitive guy he is, decided to surprise Allison with a romantic underwater lunch tour of the lake in Gd’s mobile marine lab. You have to give Jack full points for style; I was seriously impressed with the amount of work that went into planning the lunch!

But on the flip-side we had Allison,...

'Eureka' co-executive producer Amy Berg on 'Worst Case Scenario' and writing for Felicia Day
"Eureka" fans have been very vocal about their love for the show and especially Season 5. In "Worst Cast Scenario," we find out that Holly (Felicia Day) is alive. Sort of. Her consciousness is still in the matrix, but her body is dead.

Co-executive producer and writer Amy Berg stopped by AfterBuzz TV to chat with myself and Jennings Roth Cornet about the show. She talks about creating Holly and finding her voice, what's coming up in the Jo (Erica Cerra)/Carter (Colin Ferguson)/Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) triangle and how Fargo (Neil Grayston) will come to terms with the hand he's been dealt. She also breaks the news that she's no longer with "Person of Interest."

Check out the video below and let us know what you think. Are you loving the season so far? Are you Team Allison or Team Jo? "Eureka" airs Monday nights on Syfy.

Eureka, Ep. 5.06: “Worst Case Scenario” puts one of its stars in the director’s chair
Eureka Review, Season 5, Episode 6, “Worst Case Scenario”

Written by Jill Blotevogel

Directed by Salli Richardson-Whitfield

Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on SyFy

Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Allison) sits in the director’s chair for the first second time and doesn’t miss a beat. She has been with the show since the beginning, so it’s safe to say she understands how things work around there and her familiarity is apparent. Despite “Worst Case Scenario” being predictable and formulaic, by Eureka’s standards, Richardson-Whitfield is able to bring it to life in a way that would suggest she’s been directing Eureka all along.

While running a disaster simulation, the computer in charge decides to set off a series of real events that Sheriff Carter and the rest of the crew must stop before the town is destroyed. Of course everything works out and the town is saved; no major twists or...

Eureka Ep. 5.05: “Jack of All Trades” provides many different emotional beats
Eureka Review, Season 5, Episodwe 5, “Jack of All Trades”

Written by Jaime Paglia and Eric Wallace

Directed by Jaime Paglia

Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on SyFy

This week’s Eureka provides laughs, body swapping, an emotional confession, a dark moment, a potential character departure and a marriage proposal. That’s a lot of ups and downs for one episode, but “Jack of All Trades” reaches these extremes with ease.

Residual effects from the Matrix are still occurring as Jack’s conscience first swaps bodies with Fargo, then Zane, and finally Allison. It appears that since Jack was the only one connected to the Matrix wirelessly, his brain is acting as a sort of WiFi hotspot. The swaps occur randomly and make for some mostly hilarious situations.

Some of the actors, particularly Colin Ferguson (Jack), Erica Cerra (Jo), Kavan Smith (Andy), and Joe Morton (Henry) find themselves playing outside of character...

Breaking News: Syfy Announces Summer Schedule, Including Series Finale of Eureka
The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.

The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh.

Eureka Review: I Am Jack's Consciousness
It’s good to see things getting back to normal in Eureka. From random meat exploding to Martha going crazy and Jack swapping bodies with random people, it seems like another typical day in "Jack of All Trades."

We call all agree that no matter how quiet things are, the moment Warren Hughes crosses into Eureka’s city limits, it’s all going to start going horribly wrong. Okay, that’s not fair, it’s not Warren’s fault. Things go sideways regardless of his visits. It’s just funnier when he visits!

Of course, the big shocker was Jack proposing to Allison and her accepting! We also had the tiny glimmer of hope that Holly’s consciousness might still be in the Matrix. I wish they had made a little bigger deal about Fargo’s decision to turn off the Matrix and risk losing the information. For such a tough choice,...

Well, this could be different. While Fox won't announce their fall schedule until about the time you're reading this, rumor is that they'll be moving Glee to Thursdays to make Tuesday all sitcoms, and giving Glee an American Idol lead-in for at least part of the year.

The Avengers racked up over $100 million this weekend, which has never been done before by a film on its second weekend. That puts the gross globally over the billion dollar mark. The poorly reviewed Dark Shadows was a bust, at least for a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration, bring in a mere $29 million.

Bob Greenblatt made some risky moves with his schedule over at NBC, but he does seem to have a plan, launching shows like Revolution (looks fascinating) after The Voice on Mondays, and giving Ryan Murphy's The New Normal the Tuesday post-The Voice launch, which hopefully makes it a hit.

'Eureka' 'Friendly Fire': Grant Imahara from 'Mythbusters' joins the discussion
"Eureka" Season 5 has been going so well, it's likely that network executives are second guessing their decision to make this the final season. Episode 4, "Friendly Fire" is no different. Not only are we dealing with the science mishaps of the week, but there are the consequences to the Astraeus crew being in the matrix and everyone's grief over Holli's (Felicia Day) death.

In the past two weeks, we've had stars Colin Ferguson and Neil Grayston who play Carter and Fargo on the Afterbuzz TV wrap up show. This week, Grant Imahara from "Mythbusters" joined the discussion about the science of the show, how the group is going to get through this change and how nice it is to see a show stick with the changes they made in a timeline without saying it was all a dream.

Check out myself, Jennings Roth Cornet and Grant Imahara in the video below...

Snuffed Out: TV Series That Were Gone Too Soon
The fate of Gcb, one of our favorite new shows, will be decided in the next few weeks, and right now, there's a 50/50 chance it'll survive. If it does get canceled, at least it'll instantly become a member of what we'll call the Arrested Development/Freaks & Geeks/Firefly club. Shows that were canceled before their time, and have gained cult status since they left the airwaves.

All of those programs have rabid enthusiastic followers, and in the case of Firefly and Arrested Development, that fan enthusiasm has directly led to big screen resurrections.

We're hoping Gcb gets a renewal, but while we wait, let's take a look at a few other shows throughout the years that were unfairly snuffed out, and picture ... what might have been.

Pushing Daisies

ABC (October 3, 2007 – June 13, 2009)

'Eureka' Season 5 'Force Quit': Neil Grayston spills what's coming
"Eureka" may be on its final season, but it's the best season so far. In the first three episodes, which are a story unto themselves, we find out that the Astraeus crew has been kidnapped and placed into a virtual world. Star Neil Grayston who plays Fargo stopped by AfterBuzz TV and gave us the scoop on what's coming.

Grayston tells us that the storyline with Beverly (Debrah Farentino) is going to have a really satisfying ending. He even gave a couple of details. He says that we're going to feel the effects of Holli's (Felicia Day) death for quite a while. He even shares a story about the worst moment on set. It involves slime.

We made some predictions and Grayston says some of them are correct. Check out the video below with myself and Grayston and see which ones you think are going to come true. "Eureka" airs Monday nights on Syfy.

There are some big things coming up in this, the fifth and final season of the Syfy hit "Eureka." Romance out of place, conspiracies and robots! Star Colin Ferguson joined myself and Jennings Roth Cornet on AfterBuzz TV to talk about the first two episodes and where the show is headed.

We talked about everything from Jo (Erica Cerra) and Carter's kiss, how the Senator (Ming-Na) is involved and what poor Fargo (Neil Grayston) is going to do after the big death on episode 2. Ferguson gives out some juicy spoilers about the rest of the season and sends love to the fans.

Morning Meme: "Husbands" Finishes Strong, Eliza Dushku is She-Hulk, and Matthew Mitcham Doesn't Mind the Attention
Husbands the Series finished their Kickstarter campaign at $60,000, over their $50,000 goal, with the additional money they can make it all bigger and better. Thanks to all who contributed. We'll be following up with Jane, Sean and Cheeks soon.

Joe Eszterhas has released his tape of Mel Gibson going on a rant against his baby momma and Eszterhas. It's pretty graphic, and not at all good for his already tarnished image.

The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have been hit with a lawsuit for racial discrimination for never having had a bachelor or bachelorette of color. It would be fairly hard to prove bias in casting based on what little I know of the system, but after 25 seasons of this dreck it is fairly indefensible.

Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly have reupped with Fox News for multi-year contracts that will keep their colorful versions of facts on the air for a very long time.

Star and Showrunner of Eureka Talk to SciFi Mafia About a Possible Future After the Finale
Colin Ferguson, who plays Sheriff Jack Carter in Syfy‘s Eureka, and showrunner Jaime Paglia, recently took some time to speak with the press about the last season of their show, which premieres Monday. I took the opportunity to ask them if the series finale will mean the absolute end of the show, or if there is a possibility of future specials or movies.

Colin Ferguson: My death scene is one of the most moving death scenes you’re ever going to see.

SciFi Mafia: (laughing) But it’s sci-fi, so you can come back, right?

Colin Ferguson: (laughing) Exactly. No, there’s no death scene. Jamie, how about you take it?

Jamie Paglia: There are no plans right now for that. I think that the realities of having taken down all of our sets would make that definitely challenging. There have been discussions about potentially doing a spin-off to the franchise,...

Morning Meme: Rufus Wainwright To Marry In August, Brian Burke Launches "You Can Play," and Uggie Wags His Tail For Nintendo
The Carrie Diaries will explore a young Miss Bradshaw as she discovers the love of her life, New York City. And it can't be NYC without a gay best friend, even if he doesn't know he's gay yet. The CW pilot cast Brendan Dooling in the role of Carrie's best friend. Austin Butler will play the love interest, presumably for Carrie.

In a little noticed bit in a December interview that's now making mainstream news, Rick Santorum says that if elected, he'd make sure that not only would we get a federal Constitutional amendment against marriage equality, it would nullify all existing same-sex marriage, which numbered 131,000 in the 2010 census. The family values crowd sure does like destroying families.
