Adapted from “Thirteen Cold-Blooded Eagles”, a wuxia novel written by Chin Hung and scripted by Ni Kuang, this is undoubtedly one of Sun Chung's best works and Shaw Brothers' all-time best sword fighting movie not directed by Chang Cheh or Chu Yuan. The story is a simple tale of revenge and awakening; however, its twists and turns are told mostly in flashbacks.

Rooster Fighter Officially Gets Anime Adaptation

Viz Media gladly announced the anime adaptation of Shu Sakuratani’s Rooster Fighter (Niwatori Fighter) manga in collaboration with Hero’s Inc. at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Wahlberg plays Michael Light, an adventure racer who is at the end of his career. Dogs—we love them. They're the best. Even the toughest, bravest and most determined of athletes cannot deny the loyalty and allure of dogs. In Arthur the King, Lionsgate's latest romp and venture into feel-good territory, one of them is indeed a king. The movie was directed by prolific action-adventure mainstay Simon Cellan Jones, and stars Mikael Wahlberg, Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel and Ali Suliman. It was also based on a true story written by Swedish racer Mikael Lindnord.

Years after an ill-fated cross-country trek, Michael Light (Wahlberg) believed he had one last chance to win the Adventure Racing World Championship long distance race. With little funding of his own, Michael recruited the best team he could find: Chik (Suliman), his old friend and retired teammate; Olivia (Emmanuel), a pro rock-climber with a grand legacy; and Leo (Liu), an athlete and social media star with some bad blood with Michael.

Sure, lots of folks constantly use that as an insult to modern cinema, but with this weekend’s big release it’s a bit true (so pardon the “groaner dad-joke” of a pun). With lots of kiddies enjoying either the end or the beginning of “Spring break”, there’s got to be more for them in the multiplex other than the further adventures of that Kung Fu Panda. Let me state right out that I am a sucker for dog movies. I still can’t get over My Dog Skip. I learned valuable lifelong lessons from Old Yeller. I consider Lassie a personal friend. I took selfies at the Oscar nominees luncheon with Messi, the French border collie I was pushing for Best Supporting Actor from Anatomy of a Fall. So yes, I am probably the right audience for the latest in the genre, Arthur the King, and its title star.

“Arthur the King” suitably plays like an emotional endurance challenge. Director Simon Cellan Jones and screenwriter Michael Brandt, adapting Mikael Lindnord’s book “Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home,” take us through the ups and downs of adventure racing. They put our stamina, tear-ducts and psychological well-being to the test as we watch a team of underdog athletes attempt to cross the finish line in record time after befriending an ailing, scruffy street mutt. Our palms sweat, our hearts palpitate, and our spirits brace themselves for a windfall of feelings in the final act. This true-life tale about perseverance, compassion and second chances cuts right to the quick. While it doesn’t stray from a predictable path, the journey is rarely dull, making our travels and these characters’ travails feel worthy of the big screen.
