Nick Moran ‘Knightfall’ Role; Mark Gatiss Series Launch; ‘Mr Bates’ BAFTA Award; TriCoast Promotions — Global Briefs

Exclusive: Following a brief spell on the sidelines after surgery, Lock Stock and Harry Potter actor Nick Moran is already back in the saddle and has joined the cast of Brit espionage thriller Knightfall, alongside Ian Ogilvy, Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott, Michael Paré and Roger Moore’s son Geoffrey Moore. Directed by Ben Mole, the film follows an infamous former spy catcher who must work with his estranged daughter to avert a homeland security bloodbath and survive a terrifying home invasion. Producer Jonathan Sothcott of Shogun Films commented: “It was great to work with Nick again; he’s a superb actor and this is his third movie for us. It was great to see him having a good time amongst friends and being his usual gregarious self.” Film Bridge International will be handling sales at the Cannes market. ‘All You Need Is Death’ Director Sets Next Horror Feature For 1185 Films

Exclusive: The director of Irish folk horror All you Need is Death has set his next feature project for 1185 Films, as the London indie unveils a slate with a number of up-and-coming directors attached.

Paul Duane is making The Empty Cell for 1185, another horror feature that is set in a prison in near-future Ireland. An unexpected occupant – a transgender woman – is sent to the prison, and when she dies in solitary confinement others start to succumb to a curse.

Duane’s previous feature All You Need is Death was set in the world of Irish folk ballads. It was acquired by XYZ Films and presented at New Orleans Overlook Film Festival alongside the likes of Universal’s Abigail, receiving positive reviews from critics.

1185, which was founded by Nick Franco, has set a hefty film and TV slate that includes an Irish comedy movie titled Ziggy from Father Ted cinematographer Eugene O’Connor.

Stephen Moyer heads UK crime thriller ‘Code Of Silence’ for 101 Films (exclusive)

Stephen Moyer is to lead the cast of crime thriller Code Of Silence, which is to start production this month in the UK.

The film is fully financed by 101 Films, an Amcomri Media Group company. It will be produced by Lucinda Rhodes Thakrar and Jeet Thakrar of UK firm Picture Perfect alongside 101 Films’ Michael Walker, with 101’s Andy Lyon and Andy Taylor as executive producers.

Ben Mole will direct the film, which is written by Luke Bailey, with Alec Newman alongside Moyer on the cast.

Cannes Market: 101 Films Intl. Adds ‘Broken Law’ to Slate (Exclusive)

Sales company 101 Films Intl. has picked up the distribution rights to Paddy Slattery’s debut crime thriller “Broken Law,” and will present it to buyers at the Cannes Virtual Film Market.

The film premiered in February at the Dublin Intl. Film Festival, where it received a Special Jury Prize, voted for by the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle.

“Broken Law” tells the story of Dave Connolly, a respected member of the Irish police, whose loyalty to the force gets tested by his ex-convict brother Joe following a botched robbery. Suddenly Dave finds himself embroiled in a cover-up that leads to a secret relationship with Amia, an unhappily married woman, who also happens to be the victim of his brother’s latest crime.

The film stars Tristan Heanue and Graham Earley, previously seen together in “Cardboard Gangsters,” alongside John Connors (“Love/Hate”), Gemma-Leah Devereux and Ryan Lincoln (“Kissing Candice”).
