David Murphey from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise had moved on with his life after his breakup with his on-screen love interest, Lana, but sadly, he passed away on Dec. 11, 1966. The 62-year-old Las Vegas native had a controversial relationship with his online girlfriend, which raised questions, as he had dated her for seven years without ever seeing her in person. David eventually met and proposed to Lana during his time on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. However, the couple never tied the knot.
In February 2021, David admitted that his relationship with Lana was complicated. In November 2021, she announced that she'd split from David. Lana also revealed that 90 Day Fiancé was her last acting role, causing some speculation about the show's authenticity. Later that month, Lana debuted a drastic makeover on social media, hinting that she had started something of her own in Ukraine. Meanwhile, David embraced life in Las Vegas and made new friends.

The 90 Day Fiance franchise has been a success since it touched down on TLC in 2014.
The reality TV staple has grown arms and legs as spinoff after spinoff has popped up on TLC and Max.
In 2020, 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days Season 4 burst onto screens at the height of stay-at-home orders due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was one of the most unhinged seasons of reality TV that year.
Introducing us to Big Ed Brown, Lisa Hamme, Geoffrey Paschel, Varya Malina, David Murphey, Avery Warner, and Stephanie Matto, not a single scene was wasted because every storyline was engaging, outrageous, and highly watchable.
It’s the only season of 90 Day Fiance with any rewatch value because everything that happens is so shocking.
How can we forget Lisa calling out Usman’s music video director for choosing a woman for her husband-to-be’s music video?

Where to Watch Powered by The original pitch for 90 Day Fiancé was rejected by multiple networks before it found success, as the show was considered too male for female networks and too female for male networks. Most 90 Day Fiancé cast members are not paid much for their appearances on the show, with some only earning $1,000 to $1,500 per episode. International partners do not receive any payment without a work permit. Some scenes on 90 Day Fiancé are scripted or manipulated to create drama, and producers are known to provoke the cast off-camera to capture intense moments. Conversations and confrontations can also be edited to create a certain narrative or context.

The drama on each 90 Day Fiancé episode begs the question of whether the show is scripted, and if any of it is real at all. Every once in a while, there are cast members who, despite their strict contracts, let it slip that everything on the show is not what it looks like. In 2014, 90 Day Fiancé started off as a docuseries about the K-1 visa process which allows Americans to bring their international partners into the country to get married. Now, the show has married drama to reality, blurring the lines between the two.
With the 90 Day Fiancé franchise's multiple spin-offs, each being more chaotic than the other, the show's universe is growing, and shows no signs of stopping. New couples are introduced with every installation, but nine years later, there are dots that connect to reveal recycled storylines and cast members who might be playing pretend just to seek fame.

The teaser for 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days season 5 promised plenty of juicy drama, revelations, fights, heartbreak, and love. While prior seasons of extended franchise content felt forced, the seven new couples of Before The 90 Days season 5 were ready with new and fresh storylines. However, Ben and Mahogany brought a different form of entertainment with their catfish storyline reminiscent of David Murphey.

While some 90 Day Fiancé franchise cast members were able to accept when their relationships had run their course, others were accused of not being able to accept when the things they had were over. This has led to many instances of second-hand embarrassment from viewers. Both men and women in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise have remained delusional about the end of their relationships over the years.
Many of the extended 90 Day Fiancé franchise cast members have been on different pages over the years. Meanwhile, some couples haven’t even been on the same pages about whether they want to be in relationships. In multiple instances, one half of the couple has appeared completely over the union. However, their partner refuses to accept that things were over.

David Murphey from 90 Day Fiancé looks different after weight loss, as the 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 4 star’s face has changed dramatically since his split with Lana. He called himself a, “future full-time traveler” onscreen, and he met Lana from Ukraine on a website. He had no problem spending lots of money (David needed to pay to talk to her), but they didn’t stay together after getting engaged during the finale.
