Beta Cinemas has sold Hammarskjold – Fight For Peace, the Swedish box office hit, across Europe as a slew of deals were unveiled at EFM in Berlin.

The biopic has gone to Rai Cinema in Italy, Swift Productions for France, Twelve Oaks Spain, Portugal’s Outsider Films and Discovery for the former Yugoslavia. Beta adds a U.S. deal is under negotiation.

Hammarskjöld – Fight For Peace, directed and co-written by Per Fly, stars Sex Education actor Mikael Persbrandt in the role of Dag Hammarskjöld, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Fly wrote and directed the feature film Backstabbing for Beginners for A24, with Theo James and Ben Kingsley in the leading roles. He also directed the popular Danish political drama Borgen and is currently is in preproduction on the Nordic crime series Reservatet for Netflix.

Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, died in 1961. But questions surrounding his tragic passing in a plane crash, and his sexuality, refuse to die down.

“We know who he is, but we don’t know that much about him,” says director Per Fly, now bringing “Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace” to the International Film Festival Rotterdam. His journals “Markings,” published posthumously, provided a way in.

“There he was, this powerful man, and yet his writings deal with loneliness and sacrifice. There was a fragile poet inside of a politician.”

With Beta Cinema on board, the film was produced by Patrick Ryborn for Unlimited Stories. Variety premieres the trailer here.

Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt is the star of “Hammarskjöld,” Per Fly’s Cold War-set political thriller, which Beta Cinema will launch at the European Film Market.

Persbrandt will play the lead role in the English-language film as Dag Hammarskjöld, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations who died in a mysterious plane crash in 1961.

Hammarskjöld, whom John F. Kennedy called “the greatest statesman of our century,” was a Nobel Prize winner who fought to end colonization.

Produced by Beta Nordic Studios’ Swedish banner Unlimited Stories, the story opens at the peak of the Cold War in 1961 at the Un headquarters in New York City. The charismatic diplomat and economist Dag Hammarskjöld has reached the pinnacle of his power, serving as Secretary General of the United Nations in his seventh year.

After decolonization, he takes it upon himself to bring peace to the African countries, thwarting plans to further exploit resources...

Jack Gleeson, who is known to most as the despicable King Joffrey from “Game of Thrones,” is set to make his return to television after a six-year break.

Gleeson has been announced among the cast members for “Out of Her Mind,” a BBC comedy from comedian Sara Pascoe which has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost on board as executive producers. News of Gleeson’s casting comes after he had previously hinted that he might give up acting as a career.

The series explores explores heartbreak, family and how to survive them both. Per a description of the show, it will look to subvert the traditional sitcom format by combining eccentric characters, animation, and scientific explanation.

“‘Out Of Her Mind’ is a direct expression of my mind. We’ve turned my brain into a theme-park, and everyone’s invited,” said Pascoe.

An English home-invasion thriller of sorts that goes off the rails early and hard, “Caught” is quasi-horror, or science-fiction, though it’s too pretentiously ambiguous about what’s really going on for one to be quite sure. I've got a great and creepy trailer here for an alien horror thriller called Caught that I think some of you might enjoy. The movie has a fun vibe to it as it was inspired by the films of the 70s. According to the director Jamie Patterson, he wanted "a gritty, raw feel to the story because there’s nothing glossy about horror. This is my idea of alien art house.” It definitely looks like an entetaing throwback flick.

Frances Ha actress Mickey Sumner has joined April Pearson (Skins), Cian Barry (Nina Forever) and Ruben Crow (Austenland) in horror Caught, which is currently shooting in the UK.

The film tells the story of a journalist couple who invite a man and woman into their idyllic village home, but what begins with an informal interview descends into a nightmarish fight for survival.

Robert Halmi Jr (Olympus) and Jim Reeve (Foyle’s War) are executive producers for Great Point Media, which will also handle world sales.

Jamie Patterson (City Of Dreamers) is directing the script written by Dave Allsop and Alex Francis, from a story developed by Allsop and Clint Langley.

True love never dies, so they say, and this is something that has charmed romantics and worried horror writers for hundreds of years. It doesn’t deter Holly (Abigail Hardingham), who really fancies Rob (Cian Barry) and figures she can handle the fact that he’s recently bereaved. But dead girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) still wants him for herself and isn’t about to give up easily.

An incisive look at some of the less talked-about aspects of human sexuality, Nina Forever is the first full length feature made for a cinema audience by brothers Chris and Ben Blaine, and it has won them well deserved attention. Fresh off the festival circuit, they agreed to talk to us about the film, enthusiastic about a review they said have given them a real boost early on. They were just glad, Chris tells me, that “somebody got it.

I love a heartwarming, feel-good romance story just as much as the next person, but sometimes, it’s those doomed cinematic relationships that tend to stick with you the most. Rob (Cian Berry) is a grocery store clerk who recently tried to kill himself after not being able to cope with the depression brought on by the sudden, tragic death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy). Holly (Abigail Hardingham) is Rob’s co-worker, who has a morbid fascination with pain and death, so obviously she’s immediately smitten with Rob. One of my favorite films from SXSW just got a trailer! Chris and Ben Blaine’s feature debut, Nina Forever, stars Abigail Hardingham as Holly, a paramedic-in-training who's got a thing for a guy named Rob (Cian Barry) and the two of them actually wind up hitting it off. Trouble is, Rob's dead ex-girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) doesn't appreciate him moving on so the first night Rob and Holly sleep together, she returns to let them know how she feels about it. As you'll see in the Nina Forever trailer, I think it's "a superb horror movie in every respect." (Read my full review from SXSW here.) Similar to the film itself, this promo does a stellar job balancing the eeriness of the situation with some spot-on humor. Think you’ve had enough big screen love triangles? I can guarantee you’ve never seen one quite like the relationship in Chris and Ben Blaine’s feature debut, Nina Forever. The movie stars Abigail Hardingham as Holly. She’s training to become a paramedic, but also works at a supermarket and that’s where she falls for Rob (Cian Barry). He’s completely broken after the death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O'Shaughnessy), but Holly is convinced she can fix him. They hit it off and strike up a relationship, but their budding romance almost comes to a screeching halt the first night they sleep together. Right in the middle of their hook up session, Nina pops up, and I mean literally pops up. She rises out of the bed right next to them, a bloody, broken mess, just like after her accident. It’s startling, but Holly doesn’t run.

Rob (Cian Berry) is a grocery store clerk who recently tried to kill himself after not being able to cope with the depression brought on by the sudden tragic death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy). Holly (Abigail Hardingham) is Rob’s co-worker, who has a morbid fascination with pain and death, so obviously she’s immediately smitten with Rob. This is the perfect pairing, at least for now, since Rob is in desperate need of a romantic connection in his life so he can at least attempt to get over Nina’s death, and Holly needs to be in an edgy relationship after her ex dumped her for being too "vanilla." South by Southwest, the multi-faceted film, music and technology festival held annually in Austin, TX will feature such upcoming films as Paul Feig’s Spy, David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn, Alex Gibney’s documentary Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, and Ondi Timoner’s Russell Brand profile Brand: A Second Coming as headliners in this year’s film festival lineup.

SXSW runs from March 13 to 21 in Austin and is now in its 22nd year. Variety has details of the 145 films and 100 world premieres bowing at this year’s festival. Brand, as previously reported, will be the festival’s opening night film.

Other notable titles on the list are the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard, a rough cut of Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck, the directorial debut of 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland, Ex Machina, and a new comedy by Michael Showalter, Hello, My Name is Doris.

If there was a way to regain their youth what would the old do to claim that prize? RPG aka Real Playing Game looks to answer that in a science fiction style, meaning killing each other in a virtual reality style environment. Is murder worth the extra years on the Earth? For the people who could afford something like that the answer would probably be yes.

Steven Battier (Hauer) is old and terminally ill but also a multi-millionaire. Accepting an offer from a company RPG he takes part in a group venture which promises to give him the chance to be young again. For 10 hours the elderly group are transferred into the bodies of younger and healthier bodies and told they must kill each to claim the prize.

Matthew Lewis has joined the upcoming West End production of Our Boys. The former Harry Potter star, who played Neville Longbottom in the series, plays Mick in David Grindley's version of Jonathan Lewis's play. The winners of the Light In Motion awards for Best Irish short, best international short, best animation and best documentary were announced at the closing of the 24th Foyle Film Festival last night in Derry. 'Downpour' was awarded the award for Best Irish Short. Starring Muireann Bird (Eamon) and Cian Barry (Doctors, Shameless), the short is an ode to Ireland and to Irish rain. The short was directed by Claire Dix (Free Chips Forever!) produced by Nodlag Houlihan of Zucca Films and filmed by Piers McGrail (Kelly & Victor).
