Disney shared its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings results on Thursday, and as part of the report, showed that its streaming segment — including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — had turned in a net profit for 2024, with aid from an especially strong fourth quarter.

Key Details: Disney streamers showed a profit of $321 million during the fourth quarter. Those results allowed Disney’s streaming services to record a $134 million profit for the entirety of 2024. The Disney earnings report showed that its streaming segment ended the company’s fiscal Q4 with a profit of $321 million.

Ndefo’s death comes 10 years after he lost both his legs in a hit-and-run accident. The actor had left a yoga class and visited Erewhon Market on his way home just before he was hit.

Revenge of the Sith is the best entry in the Prequel trilogy for Star Wars, one that brought audiences face to face with the downfall of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Order, and the rise of the Galactic Empire. While the Prequels have been infinitely memed, the trilogy, especially its finale, consists of some of the most emotionally charged moments of the entire franchise.

One such moment, that has been simultaneously memed and and considered one of the most emotionally charged moments of the franchise, is the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker (now Darth Vader) on the plane of Mustafar. One of the many things that made fans laugh out loud was the finale of the battle, where Obi-Wan Kenobi declares that he has the high ground, but it seems that this was not the only iteration of the fight between the Jedi Master and his former Padawan.

On May 4th, as part of the 2024 Podathan charity streaming event benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation, members of Lucasfilm's "Star Wars" story team Pablo Hidalgo and Matt Martin spoke to the hosts of the Full of Sith podcast. The show has been producing almost weekly episodes since 2013 and has covered plenty of "Star Wars" news, and Hidalgo and Martin, among others, have been frequent guests on the podcast over the years.

Hidalgo spoke to my co-host Holly Frey ("Stuff You Missed in History Class") in a wide-ranging interview about his work with Lucasfilm and on "Star Wars". As someone who is intimately involved with the storytelling process at Lucasfilm, Hidalgo elaborated on how that works and what he really does. He's been working at Lucasfilm for over 20 years and was on set for most of the prequels and was even in charge of the revolutionary web-cam that was on set for "Attack of the Clones.

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has an update on Season 2 over a year after the Star Wars spin-off premiered on Disney+.

McGregor's portrayal of the Jedi Master was praised by critics and fans who have been hoping for a second season. However, according to the actor, it doesn't seem likely. Obi-Wan and Vader's climactic lightsaber duel, hailed as the "rematch of the century," lived up to the promise of an epic battle that showcased prequel-style lightsaber combat and the weight of their history. The duel allowed Obi-Wan to find newfound faith in the Jedi and hope through Anakin Skywalker's children, while Vader's arrogance and blinding hatred led to another defeat. The face-to-face confrontation between Obi-Wan and Vader, depicted in the Vintage Collection action figures, captures the poignant details and enhances the stunning recreation of the duel's emotional impact.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's climactic lightsaber duel between the titular Jedi Master and Darth Vader has received the Star Wars action figure treatment from Hasbro. Meeting on an unnamed moon, the former master and apprentice attempted to settle their differences with their lightsabers. While Vader was left further broken following another humiliating defeat, Obi-Wan was relieved of his guilt and gained a newfound sense of peace.

When it was announced that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Darth Vader in “Ahsoka,” Star Wars fans’ response was mostly positive. Christensen took heat for the prequel films like many of his costars, his two-film arc depicting Anakin Skywalker’s descent into darkness now obscured by indictments of the trilogy’s other flaws.

And Anakin — not portrayed by Christensen, but voiced by Matt Lanter — was a key part of the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which developed Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein). To have the master and apprentice reunited in live-action (Tano now played by Rosario Dawson) was a thrilling prospect for fans of “Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels” — where he is young, smiling, and mostly human. And as nice as it is to see the duo reunited, it boils “Ahsoka” down to the same uninspired purpose that drove every lackluster Star Wars project of the past decade: Nostalgia.

When Hayden Christensen made his first Star Wars appearance as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the reaction was exactly positive. Flashforward two decades and Christensen is now being celebrated for a second time in as many years for his latest return to the franchise.

It’s entirely possible that television historians will look back on the early 2020s as a period of fundamental transition for TV watching habits. This could be the era where TV transitions from linear broadcasts to a primarily streaming format, and new data from Hub Research is underscoring how far things have already progressed.

First, the good news for linear TV. Hub’s data shows that live TV from any platform services was the default for 40%. However, the number of respondents who chose SVOD services first has risen steadily since 2018.

Now, the bad news for traditional cable. Hub’s data also found that the set-top box, once so ubiquitous in the American household as a necessary addition to every cable plan, has fallen way behind internet-based sources of TV as a first stop for viewers. At a rate of 60%, respondents said they turn to an online source first when ready to watch.

It was only a matter of time before another streamer hopped onto the anti-password-sharing train. Netflix was famously the first, handing down rules to prevent users from sharing their login information with people outside their homes in May.

Disney is officially working on similar rules for its streaming services. That news came from CEO Bob Iger, who spoke about the company’s plans to introduce rules against sharing of accounts on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ during its conference call with analysts and investors to discuss its quarterly earnings report.
