Biography

Her stage name was chosen in honor of her maternal grandfather Dennis K. Chappell, who died of cancer in 2016. The name is a combination of her grandfather's last name and a word taken from his favorite song, "The Strawberry Roan" by Curley Fletcher.

She won a talent show in Springfield, Missouri at the age of fourteen and when asked about her ambitions, said she hoped to win a Grammy one day, which she did in 2025.

She is the oldest of four children.

Her influences include Kate Bush, alt-J, Stevie Nicks, Ellie Goulding, Lorde, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Kesha, Britney Spears, Pink and Lana Del Rey.

She performed publicly for the first time at age 13, singing "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole at her school's talent show, which she won.
